Overall: great experience, delicious food, great service.
We decided to spend a date night and try this restaurant. I was a little disappointed when my husband selected this restaurant because I really wanted a steak and bread in a basket type of night. But I decided to keep hush and give this a try and I am soooo glad I did.
Service: excellent! We were greeted by everyone with such a warm embrace, elegance, and charm. Everyone was extremely professional and made you feel welcomed.
Food: please know the difference between spicy and spices. I kept over hearing the table next to me saying this is spicy. Ummm no! It was not spicy it was excellently spiced. We got the jollof, okra salad, lions mane, and red red stew. Food is served in courses, which is excellent and allows for your palate to savor all the wonderful spices. We ordered the okra salad to go for our toddler.
Drinks: my husband ordered the jam afrique it was delicious, a nice take on an old fashioned; but the cocoa bitters was a nice touch. I ordered the chi chi passion fiz, it was good but needed something, very refreshing but I felt like I needed something else or more. I'm sure it wasn't the drink but more less my mood.
I definitely enjoyed my date night and made a trip to Melrose...
Read moreThis was my second visit to Ubuntu, and unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my experience. Over Hype and Under delivery. Despite having a confirmed online reservation, I had to wait over 30 minutes for a table, even though there were open seats both inside and outside. The main receptionist was constantly on the phone, which contributed to the poor customer service. Three specific items from the main menu were unavailable, reason given was supply chain issues (Isn’t Covid times over) . The restaurant should promptly update the menu and inform customers of what is available to avoid disappointment. The food server seemed totally bored and rude when asked about drink and food choices. Whether he was overwhelmed or disinterested, he should strive to be polite and friendly. No one checked if we needed water, additional drinks, or anything else throughout our meal, further highlighting the lack of good service. No music was playing, maybe apple music was down this Sunday. I won’t be returning to Ubuntu anytime soon and will only consider coming back if significant improvements are made. I hope this review helps them improve their operations and...
Read moreI am so glad to see this newly opened restaurant and that it features delicious flavors inspired by West Africa. We take friends on tours to Africa and we have so many people who want to try African food here, this is a great introduction.
You will want to order multiple items and enjoy the experience of sampling them with your partner or friends.
The Char Grilled okra salad was divine. I’ve never had a passion fruit vinaigrette before, and this was splendid. Bursting with flavor and highly recommend.
The Lions Mane Pie was also a fantastic choice I would recommend. The mushrooms give a great experience of a pot pie/Shepard’s pie. The crust was delicious.
And the Jollof Arancini was amazing! Best burst of flavor I’ve had in a long time.
The vibe is cool, the music is not too loud, the decorations are fun and artistic, and we had the privilege of meeting Chef Shenarri Greens., Karen our server was pleasant, and the GM Oscar let me take photos while he made our delicious mock tail drink.
Congrats to Ubuntu on a delicious restaurant. We will be recommending and bringing friends to visit this establishment and to support the...
