Upon my first trip to LA with my Bourbon conessieur husband, we found this sweet spot on Melrose. They had a very good selection of spirits and the bar keep, I believe his name was Logan, was very mindful and patient with us. We enjoyed the space very much and hope to come back and find long lost friends some day. My parents have the same Olympia beer antique behind their bar at my childhood home. 🧡🏵️🤩

Cool local dive bar with good food but unfortunately has mid service, idk if it’s just me but the staff had an attitude both times I’ve been there. The calamari/ fries combo is my new go to, it’s super yummy!! I damn near stuffed my face, super delish. I also really loved their whiskey shot + beer deal it’s inexpensive and hits the spot every time. The service here was… weird but I’d come back.

We were looking for a place to go for happy hour and came across Snake Pit. The atmosphere was so relaxing. The bartender was a sweetheart. She apologized for taking a little while to get our drinks, but was working the bar by herself so I give her a lot of credit. The happy hour prices were pretty great. $7.50 for well drinks, $8.50 for the nachos. I highly recommend trying the nachos.

It pains me to do this, I used to come here a couple years ago when I lived around here and I loved this place. Tonight I decided to bring my friends here after a dinner to keep the party going. The ambiance was okay, we tried changing some songs on the jukebox and after that we observed some changes in our service. We had one older gentleman in particular that was serving us and he seemed dismissive and at times, rude. While we kept ordering drinks from our big party, we noticed he kept ignoring us and denying service at times.

The night seemed okay for me until I wanted to close my tab. I noticed the same older gentleman was the one who closed me out. He was talking to a group of girls and was holding my check. When I asked him if I could please get the check so I could pay and leave, he not only shrugged me off, but basically shunned me infront of other customers. All I wanted was to pay and leave. After he did that I was upset and he left me waiting for what seemed like over 10min as he continued his conversation with the group of girls. I tried to get his attention, but there is only so much I could degrade myself. I tried to see if there was a manager I could talk to, but I was informed there wasn't one.

The other younger bartender was great and responsive and actually provided great service, I tried to get his take and see if should reverse my decision on the matter, but then the older gentleman/ bartender came over to confronted me and my group.

He said that because of the zero tip that we would never be served there again and told him why I did that, I'm not sure what he expected after being so rude to me. My group then proceeded to give him feedback on bad his service was that I was unaware of and they told him that I had vouched for this place so they were happy to come here, but somehow they felt they were slighted, some assumed it was discrimination they had experienced.

I'm not sure what happened to this place, but I recall fonder times, drinking cheap yet high quality drinks with a vibrant dive-y atmosphere with staff that had a great time with the patrons. I hope it's just one employee giving us a bad impression. I have never felt compelled to leave such a negative review, until today.

I hope management sees this, and I hope Snake Pit can get back to it's roots. Tonight I'm disappointed and embarrassed to have hyped this place up...

A year ago if you asked me to review Snake Pit Alehouse Whiskey Bar & Kitchen, it would have been * out of * across the board. But, for now, I can’t go any higher than * out of **.

Why? Well, it’s the food. A few years ago, my wife and I stumbled into the Snake Pit for a drink. The place was busy and with the jovial spirit of the other drinkers and we were thrilled to see they also served food. We ordered the “build it yourself” pizza and we were immediately in love.

I was quick to recommend the place hand over fist. I shared with friends about the great whiskey bar with the amazing menu.

Now for the downer... about 6 months or so ago, the owner changed the menu. And not just changed but really revamped everything. The Build Your Own pizza is gone. Now if you want certain toppings on your pizza, you have to pick one of the limited preset pizzas and then add/remove toppings. A very confusing process. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Popular items were either removed or replaced with the faux version, (i.e. mashed potatoes were replaced with mashed cauliflower).

Favorite items vanished and the other regular dishes were altered enough that it was no longer the old favorite.

Since the change, I have left many times satisfied with the drinks but unsatisfied with the food.

My wife and I still go here but not nearly as much as before. Mostly just to get a drink or three. Most recently, we stopped for a drink and decided to try our luck again with the grub. The hamburger was inedible and the steak sandwich came out looking and tasting like a sloppy joe.

I still highly recommend for a place to drink with a fun atmosphere. The grilled cheese is yet unchanged so i would order that if i were you.

The staff are all wonderful, friendly and gracious. They are deserve high marks and generous tips.

I still like coming here but I jwish the food would go back...
