The Bellbird Bakeshop — Restaurant in Lyons Township

I stumbled upon this NEW gem of a French bakery in La Grange, and it instantly transported me to boulangeries in Paris and acclaimed New York and San Francisco bakeries. You are welcomed with smiling faces and the scent of freshly baked croissants, country loaves, distant spices, and Metric coffee.

The atmosphere is beautiful and charming, the decor felt well-designed and premium yet warm and welcoming. I tried five different items and they were all extraordinary. Notable: Their almond croissant with amaretto and orange zest (wow!), their canelés were hands down the best I’ve ever had, and their flagship ham & cheese croissant! Not only was the ham & cheese croissant perfectly laminated with flaky, buttery layers, it was filled with remarkably high-quality jambon (ham) and whole grain mustard then topped with a tiny cornichon pickle. It was unique and completely delicious, reminiscent of authentic French charcuterie in a hand-held format.

The staff is friendly and passionate, and sincerely grateful for your business. Whether you’re craving a savory danish (the mushroom, potato & goat cheese danish is fantastic!) or a delicate macaron, everything is made by tremendously talented pastry chefs. This level of skill in Chicagoland suburbs is rare and one-of-a-kind; it truly is a gift to have Bellbird in La Grange. My new favorite Croissant-erie in Chicagoland! I've been on the hunt for perfect, flaky, buttery croissants ever since we moved to Chicago suburbs. so far the scene was completely disappointing. The only option I had was Katich, which doesn't have a B&M outlet, and only sold their baked goods at farmers markets. That left me buying a load of croissants from the city of Chicago (Good Ambler, Lost Larson, Hewn being my favorites) anytime I drove in, and using a steam toaster oven to reheat it the subsequent days. I'm obsessed with bread so I tend to be fairly critical of bakeries....but I could not come up with one critique of this place! Ham and cheese croissant was amazing, they added a hint of mustard in there too which I hadn't come across before...great addition! Then we had a demi baguette, I believe sourdough? Was tender, all the bubbly fermentation and great flavor! I just came back from a few weeks in France and this would stand up against some of the best in Paris!
