I've ordered here like 3-4 times and kept giving it more chances because the reviews were good and there's few veggie options especially for these types of items.
Genuinely some of the worst food I have been served in my entire life. I still sometimes think about it, late at night when I can't sleep, because it was that bad. It's seared into my mind. I know for certain these reviews are not real. Why can't state street get an actual vegan restaurant? Something is deeply suspicious about these reviews...
Prices high, portions small, food is very beige and lacking in spice and flavor profile for being vegan. When spices are there, they're the wrong spices and they're dumped on. Greens taste like cigarettes. Mac n' Cheese had the flavor and texture of cardboard. I ordered a Reuben as well and it was like rubber. Everything "chik'n" is revolting. Has nobody who works here tasted a good, home cooked loving meal before?
Most of the menu appears to me like just fried or reheated prepackaged garbage. Over-processed white bread. The food seems to be prepared without care or love. It's either burnt or not cooked all the way. This isn't how food is supposed to be.
And the employees are all teenagers... They don't want you to come in. Are they even being paid? There's something weird culturally going on here and I want to be respectful but its hard when the establishment itself seems to hate you.
I truly felt like I was intruding on someone's house when I was in the restaurant, like I wasn't supposed to be there. Hostile atmosphere. Literally negative service, you have to argue with them to get your food or get them to engage with you.
This makes me so sad because it's vegan, it's black owned, there's a lot of reasons to want to support them. But you have run a business with integrity, to serve food that's edible and you have to treat your customers with respect and offer basic services. This isn't charity, and it's expensive.
Genuinely the worst eatery I have ever visited and I suspect nobody working there has any professional kitchen experience. I don't understand how this place is still open. At best, it's like hospital food.
It makes me sad to think of the other vegan restaurants that don't get to serve food because this place does.
Nobody is going to read all this. But I've wanted a vegan restaurant on state street for so many years and we got... this?!
Worst of all, they won't even give you water with your meal.

Cheese curds were absolutely amazing! The crunchy thick crust on the outside with the gooey filling- to die for! 10/10 recommend with the ranch. Even the nonvegan boyfriend liked it.
The downside is everything else 😞😞 I don't think there was a single seasoning in the mac and it was so overcooked that it was almost pureed. Even salt didn't help bc no seasoning or even anything that tasted like vegan cheese touched the mac. The Italian sandwich was spicy, but no other flavor. The meat literally felt like soggy sponge and I haven't had meat in 8-9 years and have had a lot of meat substitutes but that was inedible. The bread on that sandwich was like 5 days old stale and dry that it couldn't be redeemed either. Fries had no salt on them.... the Ruben was better but it was still not good. Again, there was no seasoning on anything. No flavor to any of it. The shake was literally ice and milk with maybe a touch of birthday cake batter. Whipped cream was the best part honestly. It tasted like a watery protein shake. Not a milkshake in the least. Who puts ice cubes a milkshake!?
Honestly, this was the worst vegan food in Madison that I have tried. Even nonvegan restaurants have better vegan options. Heck, i would choose the taco bell next door over this, which we almost got when we left hungry still. It was so unpalatable that we couldn't even get half way through. If you want a good milkshake, go to Nitty gritty or montys. I really wanted to like it, and it was a special anniversary date my nonvegan bf planned because I kept hyping him up with the pictures. Very very sad and disappointed. If the curds weren't so expensive, I'd go get those but nothing else I don't think. Heck, even adding salt to something to season would be better than literally nothing. Turned my bf off to vegan food now 😞😞
The only reason you hesr positive reviews are because they block the truthful ones from the madison area vegan Facebook group apparently... as a seasoned vegan, I wouldn't even feed this food to the rats outside unfortunately and the fact that they can't take criticism shows the real quality there. The staff didn't even smile or anything. No service in restaurant. They seemed like they didn't want to...
Read moreI hosted a small family party today, and we were excited to order food from JustVeggiez for the first time. I'm always grateful to have new vegan options in the area. When our order arrived, however, it was missing one of the sandwiches and sides we bought, and the prices were exorbitant on some of the items for how tiny the portions were. (For example, the $8 cheese curd order was just six little bites!) And while I knew what flavors I had ordered, it was a little odd that none of the juices had any labels on them like in their pictures online.
One of our Korean BBQ sandwiches may have been missing, but I did get a chance to try the one we had. It was pretty tasty...until I found a hair on it that was not mine. That was unpleasant, and I ended up throwing the sandwich away.
I hate to leave a bad review for a new family-owned restaurant, and it seems like the owner is a capable and creative vegan chef. I'm really rooting for this restaurant to succeed. But at the same time, this was a very bad dining experience for us, and it seems like some basic things like cleanliness and fulfilling customer orders haven't been fully worked out. They also need to be more realistic with how to price their items based on what they're actually offering.
I cannot recommend JustVeggiez at this time, but I would like to try them again at a future date down the road. Like I said, I'm rooting for them to succeed, and I'd love to have a new vegan option in town. But there were just so many problems with the order today, and we were really disappointed.
**Update--I've added a star to the service because, while there may have been errors with the order, the owner was great to work with and willing to refund the meal after I...
