#WORSTDININGEXPERIENCEEVER - Today was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I was so loyal to Torchys and even though the service is mediocre I would still go frequently. We have team meetings and frequently visit after a baseball game and more. We were dining outside right by the front door and my son walks out with his friend from inside and I notice that one of the employees has a broom and dustpan and my son said "mom, don't look" while walking out. We'll come to find out there was a mouse that was INSIDE the restaurant that the employee was trying to get with the broom and dustpan. The mouse ran outside from inside and ran right under the table we were dining at. I have a pretty big fear of rodents so I did freak out a bit. My purse happened to be on the floor and my friend grabbed it so it wouldn't jump in my purse. When she set it on the bench she peeked inside and jumped up when she saw the mouse inside my purse. By this time, I was halfway across the parking lot. One of the dad's grabbed my purse and took it to the outside rodent trap to dump my purse and apparently made it go in the trap.
Keep in mind a few people jumped up and lots of people inside and outside saw what was happening. As I left my food and drinks I went straight to my car and my son comes over and says it was gone. He then said there is the manager and pointed at him, which we saw cleaning our table. I told my 15 year old son to go and tell him what happened. I see him talk to the guy (manager) and walks back towards me. The manager told him yes I know what happened and then ignored him as he continued to clean more tables.
I was LIVID at this point and even though I was unwilling to go back to dine I went back to speak to the manager. I walked over to him and said "excuse me, do you understand what just happened out here and that was my purse the mouse ran in" and he said he was aware and reason why he couldn't come out was because he had food he was carrying and told one of his employees to "take care of it" I then mentioned that even though it was the worst experience I've ever had as a manager he should have came out and apologized for what happened not to just us but the people around us. He then began to tell me how understaffed he was and they were super busy and gave me one excuse after another. I did tell him he was giving me excuses that had nothing to do with what just happened and how HE should have handled it not his employees and also told him that he is a horrible manager to think that his employee should "take care of it" with a rodent issue at a restaurant that people dine at. He acted like this has happened before. I asked for his name and email and told him I would be sending a formal complaint which I plan on still doing. He went in and what I could see arguing with another worker which was another manager that came out to talk to me. Now this young lady did a stellar job at mitigating the issue and probably the only thing that was good about the situation. She comped my meal along with our friends and was extremely apologetic. She was under the impression the mouse was outside and not inside and that is why it was handled this way.
After a few hours I still can't believe the manager and how he handled this situation and can't believe that my one time favorite restaurants had a rodent inside all while the manager acted like it wasn't a big deal. I hope corporate ups their pest control and takes action on performance discipline because this is something that will forever be engraved in my brain about the torchys brand. Not only did I deal with the rodent issue which was the main issue but the manager is the #1 reason I am sharing my review today...
Read moreI waited months, at least six, for this location to open. After months of waiting and anticipation, it finally opened. I visited on the second day and to my dismay, I was highly DISAPPOINTED!!!! INSERT SAD FACE : (
I ordered my usual (5) Chicken Fajitas and Green Queso. Per usual, I checked my order before leaving the restaurant. As I verified my order, I took note to how sloppily wrapped the Fajitas were. The chicken was hanging out of the aluminum foil on at least two of them and a third one was skimpy filled. However, I brought it to the attention of one of the workers and it was quickly fixed. When I arrived home to eat, I couldn't finish my fajitas. The chicken was dry, crunchy as if over cooked. I then tasted a second one and it wasn't much better. Additionally, there was an unfamiliar, horrible aftertaste. I say unfamiliar because I am a torchy(ette). From Dallas to Houston, I've acquired a taste for its unique flavor, so I know. I asked my daughter, who was in another part of the house dinning, about her thoughts. She just simply said, it wasn't as tasty as our normal location in Arlington, has a funny taste. I will give 4/5 for the Queso because it was warm, not hot. But it was the little enjoyment I did receive. It wasn't worth $28, not this time.
I work for one of the larger businesses in the area. My colleagues and I frequent most businesses on Broad Street. When I say we are serious spenders doing lunch hour, I mean it. So, I'm sharing this info in hopes that it's used as constructive criticism. I am absolutely a torchy(ette) and I need nearby flavourful well prepared food from this...
Read moreThey just opened a new location in Mansfield. We decided to give it a shot. We arrived and the line was out the door. I looked online and found the taco of the month was exactly what I was craving. I looked forward to getting one.
We waited our turn in line, first outside and then inside, and finally got to the register to place our order. I was extremely curious as to why with such a long line and a busy environment, there was only one person taking orders and handling the pick up orders.
As we got to the front of the line, it appeared some sort of managerial-type person arrived and signaled for us to come to the newly-opened register to place our order.
We ordered their green chile queso and I said I wanted the taco of the month. But, I was denied. It seems they can't or don't make the taco of the month in their first month of opening, but they were clearly capable of creating my secret menu Matador request. Boggle blink blink that does not compute.
I chose the Matador and the Baja shrimp taco and both were expertly prepared. My wife ordered the Democrat and a Torchy Tini.
Despite the place being mostly full, with the line still back to the door, the kitchen seemed to be on top of their game. We were expecting a 25 to 30 minute wait for our food to be delivered, but it arrived within 10 to 12 minutes. We barely had the opportunity to start enjoying the green chili queso when the young lady arrived with our order.
My wife proclaimed this her new favorite taco place. That's a win in my book.
Now, I got to drive over to the Highlands to try that taco of the month since Mansfield...
