AS A RESPONSIBLE REVIEWER. WHEN MANAGEMENT AND SERVICE PERSONNEL CHANGES, THEN I MUST TRY IT AGAIN AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS...... Life is about second chances and giving people a chance to make things right.
I love this place and the food is amazing and the staff is very friendly. It was amazing experience! BE VERY HUNGRY WHEN YOU GO THERE!
I had the chef's Ed's cutting board. It not only looked amazing but it tasted so good. The roasted beet salad is crazy good. I am not a huge fan of beets. The HERITAGE FARMS BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP is my favorite with the sweet potato flan with was perfect ! GORGONZOLA ENCRUSTED STRIP STEAK is what my husband had and it was huge and amazing. RAINBOW TROUT pecan wild rice, hazelnut brown butter is what my brother had and it really good. Every was what I expected when I visited a long time ago.
If you are looking for something more upscale, then you have to come here. You wouldn't be disappointed! You might want to make a reservation on the weekends or during holidays.
MY OLD REVIEW - under old management and servers!
Nightmare thanks for ruining my parent's 87 and 88 birthdays. Ugh. I don't usually write negative reviews, but ...... YIKES!
If you go in with low exceptions, then you should be fine!
I had to call for directions, parking and basic information and the person on the other end was annoyed by my questions. I got aggravated and told her I'll find it and if not, then we will go somewhere else. * I should have gone somewhere else!*
The best thing about this place was the host. He came looking for us and helped my father across the uneven gravel and by the dumpster. Finally, we got on the cement. Then the experience went down hill crazy fast from there.
We sat in the worst chairs ever! We were stuck in them for 2 hours! I felt like we had Eboli or Leprosy and have never had such terrible service and no one mentioned the birthdays. If you don't care about what events are celebrated, then don't ask about them. I even told the person on the phone what I was being celebrated. I spent 160 dollars there trying to create a special moment for my parents, but no matter how much money I tossed at the problem, it never got better...... NIGHTMARE. I should have got it from the phone call that we were not welcome there! If you are not young, then this really isn't the place for you.
The food read so perfectly and very creative in the menu, but it lacked care and attention to details that you would expect in fine dining. Usually fine dining has a table clothes, just saying. The food was okay. The presentation was lacking and was just tossed on the plate.
This restaurant has so much potential, but is not even close to fine dining. There were two servers during Wunderlust Weekend, Ugh! It was this aloofness and don't care attitude that will drive you crazy during the meal.
Thanks for the nightmare! My parents are still talking about how terrible we...
Read moreWe dined at Appalachia Kitchen last year for our Christmas Eve dinner and it was absolutely delightful. We were very impressed with the quality of the food and though it ended up being the most expensive meal of our stay by far, we all felt the quality and experience was well worth it. The food was so good, we still talk about it to this day. In fact, having Christmas Eve dinner at Appalachia was one of the things we looked forward to most for our trip this year. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing and sub par. Due to COVID, we chose to have our meal prepared for takeout vs dine in. I want to emphasize that when my wife went in to pick up our order, she stated the staff who greeted and assisted her were very professional, courteous and friendly. My rating here is in no way a reflection on the staff. The rating was based solely on the food. We ordered the duck spring roll appetizer, a caeser salad, two filet mignons and I had the lamb shank. The duck in the spring rolls were rather “pungent” and gamey. Perhaps that was the intent. I found them rather off putting. I was able to eat them heavily sauced. The caeser salad included several pieces of anchovy that seemed past their prime. The cheese crisp was stale and hard to bite. The most concerning issue however were the entrees. I just could not believe the portion sizes. I very much understand that fine dining often emphasizes quality over quantity - but the portions were tiny. For the pride, we typically find a filet mignon is approximately 9 ounces. The adult portion was barely four ounces - not much bigger than the child’s portion. My lamb shank came with only half a side of meat. The meat on one side of the bone was completely missing. My sides were fingerling potatoes and broiled cauliflower. I had three tiny potatoes and about an ounce of cauliflower. After my supper, I actually had to go out and order another meal as I was still quite hungry. This year’s dinner just paled in comparison to last year’s - it was just night and day. For the money spent, the value was simply not even remotely there. It is really is shame as this was our favorite restaurant...
Read moreThings unraveled right away. We had a 6:30 PM reservation, arrived on time and were told our table wasn’t ready. We were seated 5 minutes later and waited another 10+ minutes for a server (not even an acknowledgement from the 1/2 dozen staff — including the hostess — that passed our table in a mostly empty restaurant). My girlfriend finally mentioned something to the hostess and received an eye roll for inquiring. Seriously.
The hilarity continued when we tried to order a bottle of wine. The QR code/web site for the wine list was down. Great, how about a printed list? Sorry, don’t have one. So after a bit of Q&A we just picked a bottle of the Cab they sell by the glass (the only by the glass red on the menu) but for some reason the price was now $14 more than the price on the menu.
Bread (yeast rolls) were served and they were actually quite good, although the butter was served in a plastic Dixie cup. Next was the lamb confit cabbage roll and it was unremarkable. The roasted beet salad was delicious - fresh, perfectly seasoned. Entrees were also very good (although they were served while we were still eating our salad). My girlfriend had beef tenderloin and it was perfectly prepared. I had elk osso buco and it was room temperature and a little dry (figured it might be since the meat is so lean) but it was really flavorful and the ‘blood grits’ were the best I’ve ever had. The only downside was the accompanying Brussels sprouts were ridiculously over-salted.
Food overall was B+ Front of house was F (total failure with the exception of the food runners who seemed to be the only personable,...
