We booked through snowshoe website but we didn’t know what we are getting ourselves into. We had high expectations because this condohotel is in the village, in the past when we booked in the ski village like mammoth, steamboat, and big bear - it tends to be more expensive and of course nice and pretty. For this, you have to lower ur expectation. Is it because of the location? Idk.||||1. Theres no front desk in this establishment, theres only a phone where it connects you to the main front desk which is in Alleghany. (or another hotel further up the road)||||2. Their health club comprises of a very small hot tub, a mini gym with 3 equipment on it, and a sauna. This is nice if the hotel is small, but this hotel has a north and south wing - theres no way for all the guest to use the same health club. Theres no reservation for hot tubs either so just push your luck then? I heard One of the girls said to her friend on the phone “we were here since noon, we didn’t ski at all, we’ve been drinking and chillin, come over. The hot tub btw is nice if you ever get a chance because it hs the view of the mountains||||3. Our first room was on the north wing, we had a room facing the view of the mountains which is nice - but the room looks so run down, cabinets are broken, carpets disgusting, and theres a weird scent. The whole north wing looks run down, walls are broken. We asked to be moved to the south.||||4. Our next room is facing the village which is fine. Its cozy! The room looks well kept than the other one. Still the carpet is a little stained but passable. I guess the whole vibe of this hotel is its supposed to feel like a cabin which they are sort of on point. Just imagine a much much less hot version of Langham hotel or a 1 step up from an extended stay inn. ||||kitchen- they have some stuff to cook with but not a lot. very basic. 2 electric stove. coffee machine is meh. No dishwasher which is fine if only they gave us a sponge to wash our dishes. no oven. Theres a microwave. dont expect too much.||||Bathroom- surprisingly their bathroom is clean, even the tub. Good kind of clean. They have a hot/cold water. Shower is great. Towels are great too not like the ones you get from a motel where they are super thin. they do provide a lot of towels. They give you a free bar soap and a shampoo and shower gel.||||Bed - the worst. Rock hard!! Its old school. Much better to sleep in the sofa. They give you 2 pillows, no comforter but just a thin blanket. We had to use the extra towels as blankets. Maybe thats what its there for? the worst.||||Fireplace- is a nice touch when its working. Our stopped working our first night. We called frontdesk 3x about it on different occassions. They said they will send somebody- nobody came. ||||Tv- old school. Theres cable. Definitely not a smart tv. You cant use your firestick tv here. Also its very small.||||I read on other reviews that not all rooms are “equal” here. I dont want to push my luck see if I get a much comfier bed next time. They need to step up the game here. I ship that these place feels like a cabin but They need to be cozy and comfy and updated too! Renovate if they must! To think that snowshoe is included in the IKON pass. Not going back here. Waste of money. ||||They have $20 underground parking, or you can park across the street for free. When you book this place theres a $71 cleaning fee, county tax, state tax, resort fee, service fee. LOL Our hotel room price was a shy away from a nice hotel room in Denver. Unbelievable....
Read moreLet's start with the fact that Rimfire Lodge is more like a building with a lot of rooms that are closer to airbnbs' concept than a hotel. So the experience will be different depending on the room. I have stayed in room #321. So the review will have 2 parts: first - the lodge in general, second - the room. 1 Part. Lodge. The location is great, close to the parking(outside across the road or heated under the building(this one is $20 per day extra)). It is also close to a tiny grocery store, split rock pools(included if you book with a snowshoe website), slopes, and rentals. It is just right in the middle of the village:) The interior is nice, clean, and a little outdated, but it is definitely very well taken care of. The Lodge has a wellness center(10.00 am to 10.00pm) with two hot tubes(we were lucky 2 years in a row, it was not crowded at all), little gym and sauna(it was out of order this winter and it was the only major disappointment of this trip. Be aware that it looked like they won't fix it any time soon). 2 Part. Room #321 Looks like the room was renovated recently. The bathroom was clean with new appliances and a great amount of clean towels. Tip - they only provide a couple of tiny bottles of shampoo and shower gel and a piece of soap. You might want to bring your own. The kitchen had a Keurig coffee maker. I wish they had just a normal one since I am not a fan of Keurig. But it did it job, providing enough caffeine so we could make it to the Starbucks in the same building:) The rest of the kitchen is pretty standard: mini fridge, mini stove. Dishes and pans. Nothing really fancy, but we were able to cook there during our stay. Just an idea - stakes and vegetables is a great dinner meal after a day on slopes;) There is no dishwasher in the room. They provide dish soap, but no sponge. If you think that you would need to reuse dishes, you might want to grab your own sponge. Bed was comfortable with crispy clean sheets and a nice firm mattress. The gas fireplace is also a great addition. Another thing to be aware of - this room window facing the village, so it might be a little loud before 9 or 10 pm. Overall great stay, but I will try to call them to ask about the sauna before booking next winter. Hopefully, it will be working, and I won't have to look for another accommodation in Snowshoe. The last useful tip - it is not a hotel, so the check-in should be done in one of the Snowshoe check-in locations. Just follow the signs for check-in once you are in...
Read moreI had my second stay here Jan 2 - 4, 2015 and I really liked it; however, I stayed at Powderidge before around New Year's 2014, and I believe I would stay there again as opposed to Rimfire. I preferred the more rustic, private, quiet, and individual feel of Powderidge, which is more of a cabin style, plus it was an even closer walk to the slopes.
I liked that Rimfire Lodge is located right in the heart of Snowshoe, providing a short walk to the slopes and most other places such as restaurants, Wildcat Provisions, etc. I love that it has 2 outdoor hot tubs and underground parking which made it very easy to unload the car with the luggage carts. I was very pleased with the room amenities such as the gas fireplace, kitchen and "balcony." I also liked how the lodge appears to be relatively new and "up to date" compared to some of the other lodges.
That being said, there were some definite downsides to note compared to other places to stay at Snowshoe:
NO FRONT DESK. I found it very annoying to be often confused as to where different amenities were located, such as the ski lockers, hot tubs, luggage carts. I had to really on other guests that I ran into for info. It would have been wonderful to have a front desk to ask questions at.
RIDICULOUSLY SMALL PARKING SPOTS IN THE UNDERGROUND GARAGE. Seriously, with the width of our Honda Odyssey and another SUV, pretty much no one could park in the third spot between the support columns of the garage.
CONFUSING LAYOUT. I have no idea whose idea it was to have the same room number on the same floor twice since there are "North" and "South" rooms, but I have never seen something like this at another hotel or lodge.
Overall, I would stay here again, but I would consider other lodging options at Snowshoe. I was mostly disappointed with the lack of ability to talk to someone who works there and the confusing layout of the building.
Message to Snowshoe: There is already an empty lobby... add a front desk with an informative worker and I would have loved...
