We stayed in mid to late February 2018, and we were impressed with the well stocked full kitchen, which made cooking our food so much easier. The weather was much too warm for us to use the gas fireplace, but we would have loved a gas stove. We washed all of the dishes before use as not all of the bowls and plates had come completely clean in the dishwasher. The walls and chair rail were dusty, but the rest of our one bedroom unit was clean except for the deck furniture.
Our unit had much better decoration than the photos online, and we had so much natural light and nice high ceilings which made it feel less like a hotel room. We had a view of a slope and the back of another wing of the hotel, and we enjoyed the tiny balcony.
The actual bed was quite comfortable to sleep on, but the sofa mattress was too thin to hide the support bar. Neither the air conditioning nor the heat automatically cut off, they run until you turn it off, so we struggled to find the perfect temperature.
The hallways were horribly overheated which made walking in ski gear even worse, and the door to our unit did little to soften the noise of ill mannered children running and yelling in the hallways. We didn't hear any noise from other units though, so it seems like an investment in a better insulated door is the ticket.
The locker rooms were fine as we were there during the week, but on a crowded day I can't imagine trying to get ski boots on with the narrow bench provided for the locker room. Towels would be helpful to dry equipment before storing it.
Even with the balmy weather, we were able to ski in and out the entire time we stayed. It was sad to see the width of the slope disappear, but Snowshoe did a good job maintaining the slopes overall. On the downside, we woke each day to the seemingly constant beeping of the groomers.
While Snowshoe is committed to saving water and labor costs with its less than daily cleaning, why isn't recycling more ubiquitous? I saw one place for cans near the lobby, but every trash can should have a companion recycling can including in every unit.
The unit had board and card games which we enjoyed playing, and we saw VHS tapes and a VCR for the first...
Read moreAbsolutely will never stay here again. Not one staff member enforced the mask policy; staff wore them but many guests in the lobby, in full view of at least four staff (three at desk and manager (?) in office with the door open), didn't have them on at all with no intent to put them on (one lady had it on her wrist the whole time) or had the mask completely down around their chin. Check-in was a huge hassle, I've had better experiences with the Hampton Inn in rural Pennsylvania. I called hours in advance (10:30am) to very nicely and politely request that if our room could be ready early, that would be great since traffic was less than planned. Of course they can't guarantee anything, I understand, but when checkout is 11am and you're asking to check in at 2pm, a 3-hour flip for housekeeping, it's not impossible. I was told my the employee that I'd been "pre-checked-in" so while not guaranteed, it wasn't impossible. At 2:15pm, room not ready, front desk staff have no clue when it will be. That's ok, I went down the mountain to the grocery store. At 4:10pm, still not ready, and now they can't even guarantee that it will be ready at 5pm, the official start of check-in, rather that it will be ready "between 5 and 6," per front desk. The f'd part? They're checking in people left and right (at 4:10pm). I'm not opposed to having a priority for members or something, but this kind of treatment received it's a bit BS when I went above and beyond to give staff ample time to make an early check-in possible. Seems like no one's heard of reaching out to the Head of Housekeeping to ask if Room X can be cleaned first, or in the first wave. It's not rocket science, it's communication and...
Read moreCurrently staying at the Allegheny Springs as part of my 4 day stay. I am on day two and I would love nothing more than to leave. My first instinct upon walking into the room was wanting to put everything back into the car. The room smells horrible. There were no pillow cases. The light fixtures don’t work. The lights that do work make a horrible buzzing sound when you turn them on. Door handles are broken. I am disgusted by my stay. As soon as I realized these issues I was going to call the front desk but the welcome brochure notes, to my dismay, that the units are individually owned and therefore they are not responsible for the condition of the room. This was not highlighted on the website upon booking. If you are wanting a nice getaway don’t stay here. It’s outdated and gross. The hallways smell worse. I was excited to stay and enjoy a romantic getaway and ski. Instead, I got a nasty 1980’s worn down hotel room with a resort that says they can’t help. I called the number on the brochure just to be sure and see what they could help me with considering how disappointed I am but the number was “disconnected” and “no longer in service”. When unpacking the car in the front of the resort onto the carts my boyfriend was repeatedly told he couldn’t unpack his car there despite the fact there were 3 other cars doing the same thing. I’m not sure what made it okay for the others and not him. I am not one to leave reviews much less negative ones but people need to realize what they are paying for. I want nothing more than to leave but I have recreations for activities tomorrow night that I can’t cancel with less than 72 hours notice. Don’t stay at a resort that isn’t a resort at all....
