Update: Maui Brewing did end up finding out that Happy Hour discounts inadvertently get removed when people do split bills at the same table. They quickly fixed this and issued a credit. So just be aware if you do split bills like we do.
Mahalo Maui Brewing for identifying this and correcting our bill after the fact.
We've been coming to Kaanapali for the past 5 years. Each year we visited Maui Brewing at the Kahana location and then the beach location once they moved.
Every time we have been to either location we have had to get our bill redone because they never include their advertised happy hour pricing. If we didnt ask we never would have received the advertised prices on drinks/food.
This year, April 2025, we visited again the Kaanapali Beach location and arrived at 3pm for the advertised Happy Hour pricing from 3-5 PM. $2 off drafts and $5 off shareable appetizers. The food was mediocre and you get little for your money. No fries with the burger, no condiments unless you ask ( then they'll bring a tiny cup of ketchup).
After eating, the bill process is been more deceiving. Now they stick a tablet in your face where you can't see an itemized bill before paying. AFTER paying, you can request a receipt to see what you actually paid for. Sure enough, after they swiped our card we saw on the printed copy they charged us full price for everything, drafts and shareable apps.
We are catching on that this is almost a scheme to get customers in the door with happy hour pricing but intentionally leave it off the bill unless they say something (which is hard to do when you get a paper copy only after you pay).
This cost us an extra $20 after 8 drafts and two sharable apps. I contacted them on Instagram and they messaged back the following day saying the "Hospitality Team" would reach out. A week later Ive heard nothing.
This was our last try at Maui Brewing. We will no longer fall for this game with their pricing. Buyer beware to ask for a itemized receipt before paying so you can see that you also are not getting the happy...
Read moreMy wife and I came here Friday night for dinner. We made a reservation on OpenTable and when we arrived, there was a separate line for those who had reservations. Checking in was a little odd as we were told they needed to regroup before we could be seated. Not really sure what that meant as more than half of the restaurant was empty. So we waited around 15 minutes before I received a text that our table was ready. The whole restaurant was open air, which was really cool, and we sat at one of the tables near the back. There was live entertainment so we had a great view of the stage and the setting sun behind. The music was really nice and complimented the atmosphere of eating at a beachside restaurant. Our server was nice and gave us good recommendations for drinks - my wife ordered some light cocktail, maybe called Yoga Pants?, and I ordered one of their seltzers. Both were very refreshing! Their food menu had a lot of options and a lot of items looked really good. My wife ordered the MBC Cheddar Burger and I ordered the Guava Pork BBQ Sando. The sando was fantastic! The flavors all mixed really well and it was a good portion of pulled pork. Before leaving, we walked through their gear store near the back. It was nice to casually browse and then you bring back any items to the table at the add it to your check. One thing to note, they charge an extra 3% for using Amex. I’ve been an Amex user for over 20 years and this is the first place I’ve been to that pushes the transaction fee back to the customer! You should just not accept Amex instead of making your customers pay the fee. It was then we also noticed an extra kitchen service fee on our receipt. Not a huge deal by any means, I just don’t like being nickel and dimed and the service fees in today’s restaurant business are getting entirely out of control! Overall, the food and atmosphere was good but the check paying experience really left a sour taste...
Read moreIhave mixed feelings about this place. First night in Maui, we went here and the food was good and service was good. However, on the last night in Maui, we went to this brewery at 9:15pm. We thought 45mins is a respectful time to eat but not make the restaurant open later than it needed to be. As soon as we sat down we ordered from our waitress, Stephanie. She was great and constantly checking the kitchen to make sure we get our food. At 9:35pm, the bar started closing the curtain in our face. We sat at the counter top facing the ocean, but they decided that they needed to close the curtain before 25 minutes before closing. We finally got our food at 9:40pm. The kitchen took a long time because everything is "closing". Despite the fact that we ordered at 9:20pm. When Stephanie checked up on us at 9:50pm, and asked us if we wanted another round of beer, we said yes. She put in the order but the bartenders, tall blonde female and white guy with black hair and tattoo, said that the bar is closed.. Stephanie somehow convinced them that at 9:50pm, the restaurant was still opened.. The blonde hair bartender made Stephanie wait there for 10 mins before pouring her the two beers that we ordered. Talk about bad consumer service. I mean, this entire drama unfolded and it wasn't even 10pm. Very very bad.. bartender team needs to be retrained. The bartenders created an unwelcoming atmosphere and rushed people out of the bar, despite the fact that they left early and Stephanie was the one who waited until we were done. We had to rush out of there and grabbed our food togo at 10:08pm. We walked down to Monkey Pod at 10:30pm and people were still there eating and enjoying themselves despite the fact that they also closes at 10pm. Worst customer service Ive ever had at a tourist...
