Long, long drive in rush hour traffic, for receiving misinformation & then having the person who misspoke, run to the kitchen and hide, unwilling to acknowledge the truth, take any accountability, or even apologize. FYI: “Fish and seafood of any kind—just like the meat of other animals—is not vegetarian. Fish is not vegetarian, shrimp is not vegetarian, lobster and crab are not vegetarian, and eating any kind of animal which lives in the sea, lake, or river is not vegetarian.” The main dietary difference between a vegan and vegetarian is that vegans do not eat dairy or eggs, but neither vegans nor vegetarians eat seafood of any kind. Therefore, if your curry paste contains shrimp, then it accommodates pescatarians, but not vegetarians or vegans. The guy on the phone specifically used the term vegan, when he took my order. I drove an hour(+) from upper Upcountry and called in when I was halfway there. He initially said there was fish sauce in your red curry, so I told him I would eat somewhere in Kahului instead, but just as I was hanging up, he asked me to hold, such that he could check with the cook. He returned and said that “the cook would make vegan red curry,” so I placed my order, only to arrive and have the owner say it contains shrimp. He proceeded to lie to the owner and they basically accused me of knowing that it contained seafood. Why would I waste my gasoline on a fruitless trip leeward, when I’ve been a vegan for 29 years?! She then insisted that shrimp is, in fact, vegetarian and accused me of placing an order with acceptance that my order contained shrimp. In actuality, the man on the phone used the term “vegan” and insisted that the cook could & would make it vegan. But even if you’re continuing to choose to focus on semantics, neither vegans nor vegetarians consume seafood, so your red curry should be advertised as pescatarian-friendly, at best, but not vegan or vegetarian. Vegetarians do not eat animals and shrimp is definitely classified as an animal. Hope this helps. I didn’t appreciate the impolite nature of the conversation, or her false accusations. He definitely, unequivocally used the word vegan over the phone. I wish the phone conversation was tape-recorded, so she would acknowledge the truth. I recommend being more polite and even apologetic to your patrons, especially after someone finished a 12-hour shift and drove over an hour out of her way to your restaurant, under false pretenses. I would have been fine with the misinformation, had you not accused me of intentionally wasting my own time to drive all that way. Your self-righteous need to be right provides poor customer service. I assure you that had he been more knowledgeable and provided accurate information, I certainly wouldn’t have wasted my time or your ingredients. Such a disappointment. But even if you think you’re right by insisting that he called it vegetarian, as opposed to vegan, please know that it is neither vegetarian nor vegan. Feel free to google the definition of pescatarian. That is the category in which your red curry can be accurately classified. It’s misleading to call...

I’m not sure why it took me so long to review this amazing place. My family and I have found this gem many years ago and have become a “regular” which may be an understatement. We went here 4 times on our last trip a week ago to put it into perspective. If they do not close on Tuesdays, it would have been 6 times. I have been to Thailand several times and have tasted authentic Thai cuisine many times. Nutcharee is a truly talented chef and she does not disappoint. She runs a tight ship and her food is consistently amazing each and every time. You get the flavour explosion in your mouth with every bite and layers of flavour linger in your mouth (in a great way). A huge plus to the ALL VEGAN MENU including the desserts - but you can always add your favourite protein to just about any dish. Who would have thought you’d taste one of the best Thai cuisines right here on Maui of all places?
I noticed there are many pictures posted from other reviewers so I’m going to skip posting any additional pictures. By now, I feel like I’ve tried almost every dish on the menu and if it’s your first time and aren’t sure what to order AND Kaimi is of no help because he’ll tell you everything is good (which is absolutely true), my all time favourites are (and I’m sure many will agree) FRESH SUMMER ROLLS, CRISPY FISH with GREEN MANGO SALAD, TOM JUED WOON SEN (OMG), SPICY FRIED RICE (with beef), PUMPKIN CURRY with Tofu (I’ve tried every protein option), BRAISED SHORT RIB CURRY, PAD WOON SEN, PAD THAI with shrimp (or chicken), MANGO WITH STICKY RICE, IN-HOUSE MADE COCONUT ICE CREAM. I know that’s a long list and you really need to go back a few times to try all of the above and others that are just as good. And if all else fails and you don’t know what to order, please just order both the desserts mentioned above. If I only had $30 to spend, that’s what I’d eat and leave a big tip.
Thank you Nutcharee AND of...
Read moreAfter three times and three chances to get the right service and food, I feel I must share my experience here.... Some of the food is good sometimes; the first time, we had almost uncooked beef on our table. We tried to let the waiter know, but she just ignored and pretended like she didn't hear us at all. The second time, our soup was cold, but we didn't complain. And, then last night, an embarrassing thing happened.... After waiting ten minutes for a seat, we were ready to order, eat and leave fast; so my husband and I ordered two dishes to eat in, and one dish to take out with us at the same time. The server, Weena Ware, who was seemingly overwhelmed wrote our order on her piece of paper. We waited for ten minutes, the dish that we ordered for take out comes in first on a plate. I told the person who brought the plate that this was supposed to be take out; he simply ignored and didn't want to bother and walked away. Then, our second and third plates came in. At this point, we thought they forgot to put our take out food in a box, which is okay. We can ask for a box later..... Towards the end, a packed box came to our table; then, we thought something is wrong. When the bill arrived, I asked the server that we ordered three dishes, two for here and one to go.... you brought us one extra order, then suddenly her voice went four times louder and she confronted me that I was wrong. As if that wasn't enough, then she faced the people behind me and with that loud voice told them, "you are my witness that she (pointing to me) asked for the same dish one for here and one to go." At that point, I was terrified and so embarrassed that I just told her.... okay, okay... I'll pay for it; don't bother other people. I didn't want to make a scene in a full restaurant. She walked away with my credit card as if she just robbed me with pride - no apologies. It's just bad business and very lousy customer service. Luckily there are other Thai...
