What a difference 6 months make. My first review gave this restaurant 5 stars. The original review follows a review of our most recent visit...which describes what will be our last visit to this restaurant. This visit was one we had been looking forward to for a special occasion. Talk about being disappointed... OK, so we were seated quickly and our server arrived soon after. Although we were here 3 hours before closing, she wanted to take our drink order before we had even seen the menu. After going away for a few minutes, she came back, ran through a (very) generic description of the wine varietals that they had, not specific for the vineyards from which they were produced (we not first not asked if we even wanted wine). Our server then launched into a description of "special new items" on the menu that the chef was "trying out". These two items are printed in the menu, and were not attached on a separate sheet, so they maybe are relatively new the menu, but they are established menu items. One was a lobster pot pie the other was pasta with shrimp. These were the two items we ordered...mistake. The pot pie had two small, rubbery pieces of lobster in a watery solution with a few veggies, topped by a large biscuit. The other order had three over cooked shrimp on black, tasteless noodles. After eating some of this meal, our server came back expecting rave reviews. Well, this did not happen. Once we described what we did not like about it, our server said they would tell the chef right away. We did not want to bring further attention to ourselves and asked to just have the check so we could leave. Instead, here comes the manager asking why we didn't like the meals. By now most people in the restaurant are looking over at us wondering what is going on. We repeated what we told our server, and he gave us a lot of excuses about the chef just returning back to this restaurant, trying some new things, etc. To his benefit, he removed the charge for the pot pie. We paid, we left, and won't return. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want to try this place or not.
Original Review: This restaurant is simply wonderful. It has an attractive, upscale interior with decent spacing between tables. The staff with whom we interacted were all very nice. Our server, Rich, was one of the better servers I've had, providing excellent suggestions for food. He is very familiar with the menu selection, and as a result we had a thoroughly wonderful experience. We started with Shishito peppers, where most are mild, but every so often you bite into one that slowly releases its intense heat. This makes for a fun start to the meal. Our mains were maple bourbon salmon over butternut squash ravioli with a bourbon cream glaze, and a mixed grill with huge jumbo shrimp, scallops, mahi mahi, and hake over mashed potatoes with caramelized leeks and green beans. We shared samples from both entrees and found them both delicious. The beer selection included wonderful selections from several regional craft breweries that paired well with our food selections. We will definitely return to this restaurant the next time we pass...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at Bluewater
This was our first time at Bluewater, though we’ve enjoyed meals at other Mancy’s restaurants, so we had high expectations. Bluewater is listed under "fine dining" on Google, with plates priced between $50 to $100, which raised our hopes for a memorable experience. Unfortunately, the visit didn’t quite live up to those expectations.
The atmosphere was pleasant, but I was taken aback by the plastic placemats at our booth. For a restaurant that’s positioned as fine dining, it seemed out of place, especially since the other tables had cloth coverins. I think consistency would help in maintaining a refined atmosphere.
As for the service, it was decent, but not up to par with what I would expect from a higher-end restaurant. The server was friendly and seemed to enjoy her job, but she wasn’t very consistent with refilling our drinks. Additionally, the water tasted like tap water, which was surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. For $50+ entrees, I would expect filtered water. My husband and daughter had sodas, and with the small cups, they needed to be refilled more frequently.
When it comes to the food, the experience was a mixed bag. The Rockefeller oysters were delicious and set a high standard. However, the French onion soup—my go-to dish at any restaurant—was a letdown. It scored only a 5/10. The Caesar salad was tasty, but the French dressing that accompanied my house salad was disappointing and didn’t have a good flavor.
Then came the main course. I was excited to try the two lobster tails, but I was left extremely disappointed. One of the tails had an odd taste that I couldn’t get past. After two bites, I couldn’t continue eating it. My husband tried it as well and agreed something was off. I informed the server, who said she would let the chef know and offered me a different dish. At that point, I wasn’t interested in anything else, so I shared my husband’s steak, which was good and sizable, but it didn’t make up for the lobster. The chef never came out to speak with me directly, which was strange; instead, communication was handled through the server.
In the end, they removed the cost of one lobster tail from the bill, which I appreciated, but the overall experience left me underwhelmed. Given the prices and the reputation of Mancy’s, I expected higher standards of both service and food quality. While Bluewater may be worth a visit, be cautious and temper your...
Read moreI just wanted to let Mancy's Bluewater Grille know that I took my fiancee here on Valentine's Day and we were both very disappointed. We like to look at menus online of restaurants before going to ensure that we are ok with the prices before going. Once we arrived at Mancy's, the prices were very different from what was posted online. We both came here with the idea of each getting a nice entree and possibly a drink. However, without any notification Mancy's decided to drastically change their policy forcing us to pay $69 each regardless of what we purchased. We didn't want to get anything but an entree but had to because it was included in this upcharge price (that we had no notification or say in). I informed the waitress that all we wanted was an entree each, but she stated that she couldn't do anything about it. We ended up paying a total of $148.01 (pre-tip) when we should have only had to pay less than half of that. The only reason we didn't walk out after discovering this price gauge at the beginning was my fear that I couldn't take my fiancee anywhere else at the last minute. I waited 24 hours before typing this, hoping that maybe I wouldn't be as angry about it. However, it bothers me even more now. We both feel like we were robbed and lied to. Prior to booking this reservation, I called here asking about booking a banquet or party room for our wedding reception and was given a quote that it would be $1,000 minimum. We both agree that the cost was too high and decided to go in another direction. However, we at least knew BEFORE deciding to book here. This wasn't the case on Valentine's Day. This was a VERY shady thing to do to customers, especially when trying to re-open when recovering from a global pandemic. We both are unsure whether we can ever trust Mancy's enough...
