I recently had the pleasure of dining at Rick's Chophouse for the first time, and I must say, it was an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting ambiance. The exceptional service and the outstanding quality of the food truly exceeded my expectations.
Let me begin by applauding the restaurant's staff for their impeccable service. From the friendly and attentive hostess who greeted us at the door to the knowledgeable and attentive servers, every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was flawless. They were incredibly accommodating, catering to our every need with a genuine smile. Their passion for their work was evident in every interaction, and their expertise in guiding us through the menu.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food! Each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures that danced on my palate. The prime rib was flawlessly grilled to my preferred level of doneness. The quality of the ingredients shone through in each dish, and the attention to detail was truly remarkable.
The ambiance of the restaurant further enhanced the dining experience. The elegant decor, coupled with dimmed lighting, created an intimate and cozy atmosphere. It was the perfect setting to enjoy a meal with loved ones or celebrate a special occasion. The attention to detail in the overall design of the restaurant was truly commendable.
To top it all off, the attention to hygiene and safety protocols was exceptional. The staff ensured that all necessary precautions were in place, allowing us to dine with peace of mind in these uncertain times. Notice there's a clear bottle on each table that provides hand sanitizer which smells fresh and minty.
In conclusion, my first visit to Rick's Chophouse was an absolute delight. The outstanding service, delectable food, and inviting atmosphere combined to create an experience that I will cherish. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone in search of an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a steak enthusiast or simply appreciate exceptional cuisine and impeccable service, Rick's Chophouse undoubtedly exceeds your expectations. I am already eagerly looking forward to my next visit!

Read moreWe were looking for a new place to eat at, and stumbled upon Rick’s in McKinney. Overall, we thought the food was above average, but service was just average. On the phone, when I made the reservation, I mentioned we were celebrating my wife’s birthday. Never once while we were at the restaurant did the hostess or waitress acknowledge this. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and given a wine menu and a dinner menu. My wife asked for a suggestion on a sweet wine, and was presented with two suggestions from the waitress to taste; these were not sweet at all. I asked if they had cocktails; and they did! Sure am happy that we didn’t just take the waitresses suggestion. I WAS quite impressed with the lavender infused cocktail. I have never tasted anything like it. We ordered the beef skewer appetizer, which was pretty good. It came with 5 pieces for two people, and we noticed the pieces on the outside edges were smaller than the center three pieces. The center three were the juiciest and most flavorful, the outside pieces were a bit chewy and over cooked. On to the main entrees; we got the duck and the Elk. I thought the elk with mushrooms and green beans was great. And for no reason at all, it also came with scalloped potatoes. Cooked perfectly. Each element tasted perfect, although I must say the first bite of Elk was a bit overpowering with the pepper. My wife’s duck was undercooked. I know people eat duck rare from time to time, but this duck was mostly raw. The first few bites, on the end that was more cooked, were delicious. The blackberry sauce was interesting, and the duck came with peas. We ordered a side of Mac and cheese as well, to go with the duck. (If the Elk gets scalloped potatoes, the duck needed some sort of cheesy side). The Mac and Cheese was plain/boring. We ended the night with a creme brûlée, which was also mediocre. Last thing we did was wait for too long for the waitress to return with the check. So, to sum up; service wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t outstanding either. Some food was excellent like the beef skewers, lavender drink, and elk. But some of the food was bad, like the duck. Everything else was mediocre. I’d still recommend this place for special occasions. Perhaps we were there on an off night or something. I’m willing to give it another go and I’ll let y’all know what happens next time...
Read moreWhat an odd mix of experiences in one meal. I took my husband here for our anniversary. Let me explain why I only gave three stars for food--the array of dishes had highs and lows and the average just came out to be...average. But there were highlights and lowlights.
Highlights: I ordered elk and it was cooked perfectly. The green beans were excellent. The gratin that came with it was meh--slightly undercooked.
My husband's prime rib was also cooked perfectly and the jus was lovely.
The dessert (apple galette with bourbon ice cream) was really nice. Not too sweet, pastry was perfectly cooked, apples were not overcooked and there was a nice hint of spice in there.
Lowlights: So, this is my fault for ordering oysters in August, but my husband wanted oysters. These were from PEI, according to our server. They were tiny, and one of them had grit--like, seriously, inexcusable grit. I included a photo of the oyster to show you how incredibly tiny these were for the $14/4 rate they charge. I guess they charge extra for grit. It's ridiculous.
The shrimp cocktail had nice quality shrimp but they decided to douse it in what appeared to be some kind of Creole spice blend? It tasted like Tony Chachere's. I wanted to actually taste the shrimp.
Now we get to service, which was...inconsistent. We had multiple people helping us but they didn't appear to listen to each other so it was kind of chaotic (the dining room was not full, either); it felt both rushed and also disorganized at the same time. Halfway through the meal we realized we had a piece of old carpet stapled to the bottom of our table, which confused us so I asked the server, and he said he'd never looked under the table and he would find out for us (apparently it is to "keep pantyhose from ripping."). So that was weird.
Finally, I took some issue with the odd little unlabeled atomizers at each table which (when I asked the server) I was informed are hand sanitizer, but it's rubbing alcohol mixed with peppermint oil, so basically you're going to smell only mint if you use this stuff before you eat, so do not spray from the bottles. I don't want to smell mint when I'm about to eat seafood and meat--I just washed my hands in the bathroom...
