Always had very pleasant experience at this store until today. I know it’s chaos during holiday. However, I stood up at the counter for 10 mins, and there were two girls working there. They saw me but no greetings, no smile, and no “I’ll be right with you.” I know they were busy, but it’s a very small store. They shouldn’t just let a customer standing there, and pretend I was invisible. I ordered a whole pie to go, and an extra slice of pie and coffee for me so enjoy at the store. I asked if I can pay for all of them at the once but pick up the whole pie when I finished my slice of pie. The answer was NO, because that’s against the store policy. While I was holding my coffee and waiting to add cream, also with my heave bag in my the other hand. The waitress came to me with a slice of pie and insisted to hand it to me. Hello? I don’t have the three hand!! I needs to explain to her that’s not possible for me to take the pie, and asked her if she can put it on the table. Before I got a sip of my coffee, I found there is a stain on the edge of the coffee cup. I thought that might be a fresh splash stain, so I tried to wipe it away. No, that’s an old dried stain . I showed it to the other waitress. She told me that’s a stain. I told her it’s old stain that means the cup wasn’t clean properly. She asks me if I like a togo cup instead. I said ok. I was thinking a new cup of coffee in a togo cup. I WAS WRONG! She poured the old coffee from the stained cup to a togo cup and handed to me!! What in the world I would like to have the coffee from a dirty cup? This is my one of favorite places in town. However, it’s a big...
Read moreI love this place, every time I am downtown I need to go. They use fresh and quality ingredients, as well as the pie being DELICIOUS!! Their pies are smooth and rich to where after one slice you get full (and that’s normally about 3 slices of pumpkin pie for me, just for reference)I enjoy the “smooth operator” it is a chocolate pie with a crushed pretzel crust. another favorite of mine is one they only have near winter is “snowball” A coconut cream pie with bits of coconut on top with a medium-thick almost pastry like crust. I could go on for hours describing each pie, but I don’t think it would ever make up for what it actually tastes like. It is a must for me and the rest of my family. The people that go there are he best and you can normally meet a few new people every time you go or, meet someone you saw last time you went. The people that work there are kind and almost seem like family by now. So to cover this in a summary, pie is great, people are great, nice ingredients, must go to, and you should get the smooth operator. I think that covers it, but you must go...
Read moreAfter hearing about Emporium for a long time, I ordered two pies for Thanksgiving (Drunken Nut/Pecan and the Drop Dead Gourdgeous/Pumpkin). Ordering online was simple and easy, though at $48 each, not for the faint of heart. The service at pickup was brisk, efficient and polite, but not warm. The interior is charming with a nice cafe vibe.
After trying both pies, I wasn’t impressed, regardless of price and especially at this price. I found both overly sweet with sort of heavy over-done crust. The Pumpkin version also had a Gingerbread crust. I like Ginger Ale but not a big Gingerbread person and it felt mismatched with the Pumpkin. The Pecan was better, but still a little too sweet. We had Traditional Pumpkin and Pecan pies from Central Market as well and they were both clearly better than their much more expensive competitors from Emporium.
I suggest go and try a slice for yourself before you buy a full pie. It’s very possible these just weren’t our flavors and we would’ve loved other varieties. Regardless, happy to see a local small...
