We came to McKinney to check out the antique shops, but we popped in here for a drink before starting our shopping spree. We decided to sit at the bar instead of outside because it was a bit too sunny out. There were two bartenders and both were very friendly. I guess we started drinking a bit early because the bartender let us know that we needed to order food...per Texas law it was too early to drink without food. So we ordered some chips, a Guinness, shot of whiskey and a lemon drop martini. I was surprised that the lemon drop martini was made correctly, it's been my experience that pubs don't normally get it right.
After spending the day shopping, we decided to come back for one last drink before heading home. We had gone into "The Pub McKinney" mid-shopping and we were not impressed. This time we decided to go the the second floor and I was so glad we did. There was a fireplace with arm chairs, a pool table and darts, but best of all, there was a quartet playing traditional Irish music. It was quite the experience seeing and hearing this music live.
We ordered a couple of Guinness's and a shot of whiskey. This time my bf decided to treat himself to a shot Tullamore D.E.W. 18 year single malt, which he really enjoyed. They put it in a special glass instead of just a regular one. I was looking at the menu and noticed that it was different than the one posted online and when I asked about it, a gentleman sitting at the bar told me that they had changed the menu a couple of days ago. It turned out that he was the owner. He was very apologetic that they hadn't posted their new menu online. It's always nice to come across the owner of an establishment who is friendly and approachable.
We ended up staying for a lot longer than we had planned to, considering it was late in the afternoon and we still had a 5 hour drive back home. We really enjoyed ourselves and will make it a point to come back next time we're...
Read moreHey there, boyo! Lemme tell you right now that if me and my lady wander in there and you're sitting at my table, the (County) Cork table, you better buy us a pint or three for the trouble. But seriously, buy me a tequila and diet because that's my table. My name is literally on the map on the wall. Sure, the old-timer who crafted that wonderful surname map spelled my last name "Mac" instead of "Mc" but that's common and they're practically interchangeable. But, I think we're getting a little off-topic here. My table. In lieu of cash, my wife and I will take drinks for rent money since you're sitting at our slice of real estate inside this amazing Irish pub.
Aside from having all the drinks any Irishman could want, my wife likes the wings here better than other places that specialize in wings. The burger is pretty spot on and the sweet potato fries are delish. Before you say it, the regular fries (God bless the mighty potato) are great and I, like you, question any person claiming Irish decent if they don't honor the potato. However, sometimes you want a change of pace. The sweet potato is a welcomed substitute for that.
I'm a creature of habit, so I haven't ventured far outside the hamburger, but surely the rest of the food has to be great as well. Maybe I'll try something new, but chances are I won't. I did see enchiladas on the menu which gave me a slight pause, but I bet the leprechauns in the kitchen could make that work here.
Wanted to also mention the service is great, the atmosphere is chill, and live music happens here on the weekends and is usually pretty awesome.
So... hoist up your drinks,...
Read moreI recently visited The Celt, an Irish bar located in downtown McKinney, and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, with plenty of locals enjoying themselves and having a good time.
The food at The Celt was exceptional, especially their Voodoo Pasta. It was packed with flavor and had just the right amount of spice. It was the perfect dish to pair with one of their delicious drinks. Speaking of drinks, the bar had an impressive selection of beverages, including a variety of Irish whiskeys and beers. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to recommend a drink that suited my taste.
During my visit, I noticed that The Celt was undergoing some remodeling downstairs. Despite the construction, the bar still had a great ambiance and plenty of space to relax. I also appreciated the addition of a pool table, which provided some extra entertainment. Additionally, I loved the option of enjoying drinks by the fire, which created a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
One of the highlights of my evening was the live entertainment. The Celt had live music, which added to the vibrant atmosphere. The musicians were talented and kept everyone entertained throughout the night. It was clear that The Celt prioritizes providing a great experience for its customers.
Overall, I highly recommend The Celt in downtown McKinney. Whether you're looking for delicious food, a wide selection of drinks, live entertainment, or a fun atmosphere with friendly locals, this Irish bar has it all. I can't wait to visit again and see the completed...
