When I think of Cuba, I think of culture, island, 90 miles off the coast of Florida, old Chevy, best Cigars, Amazing Rum,.Communism, tropical, amazing doctors, resilient people, proud people, and their history. I did not know what to expect going into to this beautiful Cafe. I was hoping the food was amazing as the resilience of this country(Cuba). Lord have mercy it was!!! I have not had a lot of Cuban Food, but I have studied their recipes, and this is how I would want my food to taste, if I was making Cuban food. My son and I had the El Cubano and the Pan Con Lechon. Both my son and I split our sandwhiches and they exceeded my expectations!!! The bread was Crispy with a soft chew, the meats were tender and seasoned. The coleslaw and pickles were on point and I enjoyed this delightfulexperience. Their customer service was great. The Chef of the restraunt was nice to engage in my conversation, both were very gracious in their hospitality!!! Down Town Mckinney is lucky to have a Cafe/Restraunt of their caliber. Did not have any of the drinks, but they looked amazing. Never been to Cuba, but I felt I got a tiny taste of the culture. I enjoyed the ambience of their aeesome location, and I pray for their success. They started out as a food truck and became a restaurant. If you want some great food go try it, and I know you will enjoy the spirit of Cuba and their food. Thank you so much, and God Bless...
Read moreThis is a cute little spot that is colorful and has old pictures from Cuba, a small bar, bar table seating, two tables inside and a lot of outdoor seating. Able to see the kitchen working from inside seating. I've never been to Cuba but I grew up eating Cuban food and am Puerto Rican. The vibe of the place very much reminds me of a place I would get yummy food at in Puerto Rico - so assuming same vibe since they are neighboring islands.
The customer service was great. Not sure if it was the owner but the woman who rung us up kept checking in on us. Which I loved since it was counter service. I got a pastelito to go and she wrote heating instructions for me on the box!
We ordered a cuban sandwich and a pork entree. The pork in the entree was so juicy and tender. My only complaint is the beans didn't have flavor to me and I've never had basmati rice with cuban food before. So that threw me off a little but overall the dish wasn't bad. The pork made it for me. The cuban sandwich though! Now that is the best cuban I've had in a while. I really liked the plantain chips. They were fresh with the sandwich. And the pastelito was good!
Highly recommend trying. I will...
Read moreIt’s unfortunate, I had high hopes for this place. First, I will start by saying the Cuban bread is good. However, the fact that they served greasy burnt plantain chips to me says a lot. It was not busy when I visited so I am not sure as a new restaurant why they wouldn’t make another batch of chips. They are new and you would think nothing but the best reflection of themselves should leave the kitchen. With that said since they had no care..neither did I and decided not to ask for another batch but instead post exactly what they thought was good enough to serve. In addition to the chips......HOLY SALT!!!...the pork was cooked well but the sodium in that was excessive. So now I have burnt oily plantain chips, salty pork and guess what? An empty flank steak sandwich too...which honestly tasted similar to a watered down chili broth...I have had a ropa vieja rich and flavorful and this was not even close. Super disappointed! I will stick to the Latin pig and will soon be trying...
