This was our first visit here. My husband likes to try all the Pastor tacos in the valley and this place was on our list to try. We had only seen the advertised prices for Taco Tuesday on one of their trucks that they have parked outside. The building/location itself looks like it was an old gas station. It is right on the southeast corner of Country Club and Main Street in Mesa. It would be best if you entered their drive-thru off of Country Club going north. They do have an arrow painted in the driveway to guide you. There is also an entrance off of Main heading east. Depending on whether or not you plan on going through the drive-through or parking might be difficult the first time if you start off in the wrong direction. 😂 There are a couple of parking spaces behind the building. They do have quite a big menu of tacos, tortas (sandwiches), and burritos. 🌮🌯 If is not Tuesday, each item is about $10. They are pretty generous with the meat, though and have lots of choices. They do have a website if you want to get an idea before you go or it looks as if they take online orders for pick-up They have carne asada/beef, pastor/marinated pork, carnitas/pork, cabeza, Pollo/chicken, Lengua/tongue, tripa/tripe, chorizo, pescado/fish, camaron/shrimp, chili rojo/red chile, and chile verde/green chile. We got a combo with 2 pastor tacos, beans, and rice. It was almost $12 without a drink. The meat was seasoned well and the rice and beans were tasty. They have all the taco shop toppings you would want, like chopped onions and cilantro, radishes, peppers, and slices of lemon. They also have red and green salsas. They are similar to a Filibertos, except they are not open 24 hours. If you are in the downtown Mesa area, give...
Read moreDecided to try this place out due to the decent reviews and the fact I was close by. In short, this place was decent, but the Rockstar here was the quesabirria tacos. By far this has been amongst the better birria I've had in the area and recommend this place just for that entree. The birria is not overpowered with the Star Aniz / Cloves flavor, which allow the flavor of the seasonings to actually come through.
The other items I got was a chorizo breakfast burrito, and a chorizo torta. Overall the burrito was lacking flavor and was not that good, unfortunately if you go to any filibertos you will actually get more flavor for a chorizo burrito. The Torta was much better with the main standout being the butter bread. The butter flavor was noticeably a standout and gave the meal a more complete flavor profile, which was lacking in the burrito.
The salsas here were ok at best, not spicy but again lacking flavor. There is a good chance these are not made fresh daily.
Overall, other than the birria i probably would not come back for anything else. If you plan on eating in, the inside is a little dirty. The employees are nice, but make sure you double check what they put down for your oder. The prices here are reasonable, just note you are paying a premium for combination plates. Lastly, card sales incur a 4%...
Read moreThis little hole in the wall gem is great for authentic Mexican food and especially the tacos. A good rule of thumb is if there are more selections than asada (steak), pollo (chicken), carnitas (pork); then that my friends is a real taco joint. Pedrito's has tripas (tripe) and that is my favorite kind of taco... Not to mention they also have al pastor another one of my favs. They have aguas frescas, that if you ask any Mexican, is a staple of an authentic taco joint... and it's not out of a machine, it's made fresh! Come Wednesday or Thursday... hell, come both days because they have 79 cent tacos (these are the small tacos but still, they're delicious). I found this gem 3 years ago and have been coming ever since. Sunday's they have menudo! If you haven't experienced it then you are missing out. Don't ask what it's made out of just eat it... it'll heal your soul!
Update: they have quesabirria! Birria in general. Get that! It...
