We went for my MIL's birthday. It was a day before they were going to close for renovations (very important to keep this in mind).
The faux grass outdoor seating wasn't bad looking, but trodden due to all the foot traffic (actually a good sign, lots of people going in and out). The furniture was nice. The decor is nice. There was only 1 bathroom available at the time (renovations, remember). It was interesting having brunch being serenaded by loud music, we were the only clients in at the time.
The food was good, except they did not have a few offerings due to the renovations (no empanadas). They only had enough coffee for 3 Cafe con Leche. Again, renovations, but come on. I guess they weren't looking to restock their kitchen for the duration of the renovation (makes sense for perishables, not so much for coffee).
Entrees were generally liked, but MIL didn't like what she ordered (pulled chicken in a tomato sauce), but the wife and I liked it in the arepitas, so it was a personal taste issue not a quality issue. The churrasco was bite-sized cubes of lightly seasoned, not skirt steak (probably subbed with carne asada, but didnt tell us, renovations again) that was still cooked well, but unevenly. Some bites were juicy, others were dry. The spicy, viegar based sauce was a big help in the flavor department.
Where the quality issue came up was the rock-hard churros. I have never had a churro that hard. It must have been refried or forgotten about in the deep fryer. It also tasted like it was in the freezer for a few months. The vanilla ice cream that came with the churros didn't taste all that much of vanilla; similar to the kind that comes in those little plastic bowels of ice cream you eat with wooden spoons you can buy at publix.
They have a bar and someone knows how to make a good piña colada (SIL ordered one and really liked it).
I'd go back after their renovations and give them a fair shake. My review may seem a bit rough, but I am taking into consideration that they were closing the next day for renovations that they had already started on what seemed like a few days prior, at least (4 stars for food). If they remained open the week after our visit (10/27/24), I wouldn't give them the second chance because of the dishonesty alone. But I wouldn't know, so...
Read moreWe visited La Cuvée on an odd day, as it was the day before they closed down for remodeling. That being said, we definitely expected better than what we received. First off, I ordered the Picada Venezolana, and immediately they told me they are out of the empanadas (we came at 11 AM and were the only customers throughout our visit so that was disappointing). Then the waitress is doing a rundown of the order and I notice my family ordered cafe con leche so I said to add another for me as well, and she responds that they only have just enough coffee for the 3 existing coffee orders. This is where I am bewildered that these people even decided to open because how do you skimp on coffee at a breakfast joint? I digress. Our food comes out and the arepitas are the first thing I try and they’re great. The tequeño dough was a bit dense for my liking. The meat was a bit chewy for my liking and bland (but I ate it with the spicy sauce, and that was much better). The cachapa was fire but tiny for the size of that platter lol (definitely sample size). The yuca was great (light and crisp). The last thing we ordered was dessert which was churros and definitely a pass. They were hard as rocks and felt like you were eating either the churros that came from the back of the freezer or they were refried? I don’t know. Hard pass. Overall, we had a fun time out with the family, the atmosphere was cool but the food was meh. I don’t know if we’d go back after the remodel. Good...
Read moreIt may look like your average neighborhood restaurant, but La Cuvèe is anything but! I wandered in with my two sons on a Thursday night after seeing a post about happy hour, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of Peruvian fusion cuisine . The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7:00 pm) but we managed to snag a seats at the bar.
We ordered some cocktails and went off their recommendations when it came to appetizers which did not fail. The Sashido peppers and two of their rolls were absolutely perfect to start off with. and our expectations continued to be exceeded.
We ordered the waggle steak and the Lomo saltado with a side of their special fried rice. Again the main courses were absolutely amazing, tasty and had a special flair to it. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit
I want to take Nelson For his hospitality and service. Can’t...
