Wonderful time at Mastro’s celebrating my birthday! From the first impression entering Mastro’s it’s a very beautiful entrance with black marble and a dedicated elevator to take you up. Upon checking in, Nick (I believe the manager) personally welcomed us and assured us he had a nice table for us available with a good view (although inside).
My party and I really loved seeing a happy birthday message personally printed on the menu for me - what a nice touch! Christie warmly greeted us and oriented us to the menu. There was a large selection of wines to choose from, both by the glass and bottle. The bread service was delicious - a huge variety that were served warm and very tasty. Standouts for me were the pumpernickel and toasted cheese bread.
Most of our party opted for the Miami Spice menu. I had the lobster bisque, which was a slight upgrade but totally worth it. It was decision creamy and had a very generous portion of lobster. I had the filet for my entree, as did most of our party, and we all thought it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and very flavorful - one of my friends has a good understanding and experience with grilling meats and was very impressed by how perfectly cooked it was. For sides, Christie recommended their lobster mashed potato as it’s their most popular and we had absolutely no regrets trying it - so delicious! After such a delicious first two entrees, I realized a lighter dessert might be easier and Christie was kind to let me change my choice from the cake to the sorbet, which was refreshing and light. For my birthday, they added a little candle to my dessert, which also nice touch.
I will say, there were a few hiccups here and there that seemed to mainly be a product of how busy the restaurant was. For instance, they got a bit mixed up on whether the wine we wanted was actually available or not. Also, my friend and I requested purse hooks and it took a little reminding to get them over to us. However, I wouldn’t discount the experience for this since they did handle any challenges fairly well. Nick came over to personally tell us he found the sparkling wine we originally requested. Also, Christie was very apologetic for any delays and mentioned the restaurant is particularly hectic during Miami Spice. We were particularly impressed with Nick’s attention to service and guest experience and could tell he takes pride in providing a memorable dining experience for guests.
As we were leaving, we were amazed to see the music we were listening to was live! We commented during our meal how much we loved the unique jazz renditions of popular pop songs. It was amazing to see it was live since the audio was so clear and professional!
With so many options in the area, I did originally go back-and-forth about what would be the best place to celebrate my birthday but I don’t have any regrets after having such a great time at Mastro’s and will definitely be back for another...
Read moreI am writing to share a deeply disappointing experience my family and I had during a recent visit to Mastro’s Ocean Club in Miami, where we had planned to celebrate a special occasion. During our visit, a family member, who has a documented medical condition and is legally accompanied by a certified service animal (a small, quiet, and fully trained Yorkshire Terrier), was treated with what I perceived to be unprofessional and dismissive behavior by the manager, ADAM MOREIRA. Despite providing the appropriate documentation and calmly explaining the presence of the service animal, the manager repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of the dog’s role. In my opinion, his tone and conduct were unnecessarily aggressive and inappropriate, particularly considering that service animals are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He stated that the dog "does not provide care" and made what I felt were invasive and presumptive comments about my relative’s medical condition, despite not being a medical professional. Eventually, we were told that we would need to leave the restaurant. This was a humiliating and upsetting experience, especially given that the service animal was quiet, did not disrupt the environment in any way, and all documentation was presented upon request. What stands out even more is that we have visited numerous high end and even more prestigious restaurants across Miami, and have never encountered any issue regarding the service animal. In fact, in our experience, most establishments have been welcoming, respectful, and accommodating, the opposite of what occurred at Mastro’s Ocean Club. In my opinion, this experience reflects a serious lack of awareness and training regarding ADA compliance and appropriate customer service. What should have been a memorable family occasion turned into a distressing situation that we believe could have been easily avoided with more respectful and informed management. I hope that Mastro’s corporate leadership takes this incident seriously and implements the necessary training to ensure all staff understand their obligations under the law and how to treat guests with respect...
Read moreWe went as our Christmas celebration meal. Meal was ok. We’ve been to Mastro’s in Houston and Scottsdale. The Miami location was a let down as far as the food and service. Left a 20% tip and felt like I wanted it back — as we were leaving, our server said goodbye niceties to a couple walking out in front of us and then turned her back on us to speak to a coworker as we walked out.
Service was timed poorly. We ordered our appetizers (bone marrow & shrimp cocktail, which were excellent). Then before finishing appetizers — here comes our salad!!! I hate this!! to be rushed at a meal costing over $300 for two people (no alcohol included). The Mastro’s salad is nothing special and very blah in taste and not well dressed. My last shrimp in shrimp cocktail appetizer was pushed to the side by server presenting our salads, then our server comes to table and wants to take it away. I’d like to have time to finish and enjoy every course. Steaks came with about a 20 minute lag after we finished our salads. Just poor timing and at this level, staff should be better trained and skilled in this area. Steaks were both poorly seasoned. Have had the Mastro’s steaks in Houston and Scottsdale and they were nicely seasoned. Had to request salt and butter for steaks. Both steaks were cooked to medium as requested though. Lobster mashed potatoes were good, but different than Scottsdale. I think there was asparagus in our order last night, but couldn’t tell as restaurant is so dark. Several people at other tables were using their phone flashlights just to be able to read the menu.
We didn’t order dessert or coffee. Overall, we would not return to...
