We came here for the Valentine’s Day menu— $135 per person prix fixe menu.
While the food was good, the portions were extremely small and it was only an amuse bouche, appetiser, and quite a small main aside from dessert. The main was a small 6oz short rib on top of a few slices of sweet potato, with no other side, and the sweet potatoes were undercooked. When we let the waitress know about this, the manager came out and told us they’d be bringing us some more sweet potatoes shortly, which was not the right way to handle this as we ended up having to stop eating for over 5 minutes while waiting for them to come out, and our short rib got cold meanwhile. Aside from this, the appetisers were good but one of the desserts we ordered was quite lacklustre.
We let the waitress know we were disappointed with the portions of food— something I have never felt compelled to do until today— as we had probably around 15 bites of food total. The manager came out and told us she wouldn’t be able to do anything, and did not offer us anything but her card and asking us to come back and another time, as if we the experience we had would make us want to come spend money there again. We ended up leaving with a $340 bill and going straight to eat after.
I must say that this is quite greedy on the part of the restaurant. Valentine’s Day could be a great opportunity to bring new customers in to try the food and decide they want to come back, but it seems they decided to take advantage of the holiday by taking advantage of customers instead. The experience we got was smaller portions than the restaurant normally serves, at much higher prices per dish than usual— and we were made to eat the main dish cold no less. We also indicated that we were celebrating a special occasion on the reservation, as today was also our Anniversary, and this was not acknowledged in any way by any of the staff or in any part of our experience.
For this price point, I’d strongly suggest going elsewhere, as you’ll likely find better quality food, service, and value, especially if it’s a special occasion you don’t want to risk leaving dinner feeling...
Read moreIf you like to overpay for a little bit of a good food Michaels’s genuinely expensive restaurant is for you. We were 4 people, celebrating mom’s birthday, had 3 cocktails in total, 3 appetizers and 4 entrees and we paid about $400. Everything including the entrees are very small portions and unsatisfying if you’re coming very hungry.
Ambiance was nice, street cafe vibes, causal but with fine dining prices. It didn’t make sense to us. They opened up the glass enclosures so although we were dining inside we had a lot of flies accompanying our food.
Chicken liver appetizer was good, it could use a little more generous chicken liver on the bread and it’s only 3 slices.
Crispy pork belly appetizer was ok, little heavy and on the sweeter side. $24
Leeks carbonara appetizer was good, we asked for some bread and dipped in it. again very small portion that kinda shocked us $21
2 people ordered 1/2 chicken was also really small plate with no sides. $39 chicken was perfectly cooked. Most expensive of a chicken we’ve ever had.
Grouper with turmeric-coconut broth sounded iffy and artsy fartsy but it tasted good, we actually dipped some bread in its sauce. $42
You need to ask for bread because they don’t bring anything without asking. It was sourdough and it was good.
Giant prawns were the biggest disappointment for $58. There was nothing giant about it except the inedible head. The reduction sauce was ok, a little on the heavy side. The heads lost its fat because they dissolved into the sauce :( also they should put at least two more prawns here, nobody will be filled with 3 shrimps. It comes with a little unseasoned arugula. Funny for an entree.
Side dish potatoes sucked, no flavor, we put lots of salt on it and everyone was still hungry after this dinner.
Although we liked the taste of some of the food, it’s way too expensive for what it is and the portions are way too small even with that astronomical price. Yet it’s a basic cafe/bistro.
They also never acknowledged mom’s birthday. We were so dissapointed and went to another place...
Read more4.8 | brilliant restaurant. I stopped in during Art Basel to grab some good food from a great Miami restaurant and they did not disappoint. I am a big foodie so I like to travel and plan where I want to eat, however, this one was on a whim and I’m so glad I didn’t let the initial delay stop me. they are upscale. they know it, which may be some of the initial off-put with some servers. the server I had turned out to be great. try to give people in the service industry some grace because they deal with so much personalities both internally and externally all day. she ended up recommending the wood roasted octopus, after sharing that the octopus seemed to be popular. I also ordered her fave dessert and she lit up. it was the goat cheese tart. I also started with the bone marrow which I would a hundred percent recommend. this place is definitely worth coming back to. a great Miami dining experience.
I ordered Bone Marrow 5/5 what a satisfying dish. it comes with two meaty bone marrow pieces, and a healthy portion of toast. the toppings included a nice spicy fresh pepper and a refreshing citrus like flavour I couldn’t quite make out. it was delicious. one of my bone marrow pieces was really hearty, so I had a generous helping on my toast.
Wood Roasted Octopus 4/5 this was fantastic. the flavour is very bold, so I think it was a bit of an initial shock, but as I settled into it with the crema, and radish, it was very pleasurable. I would still want some more of that smokiness to come through, versus the sauce, but the texture of the octopus was to die for.
-Goat Cheese Tart 4.5/5 the citrus paired with the creaminess of the goat cheese was the perfect combo. I enjoyed mine greatly. I would have just added a drizzle of raw honey or mild molasses to add a little bit of an added sweetness. great dessert overall. I enjoyed mine with a lovely cappuccino.
oh! I ordered the literally good as a drink, and that it was. the turmeric added a refreshing finish...
