I will never stop saying that I LOVE Momosan's brunch! You ask me to go there for brunch? I will clear my calendar to show up. Why is it so great? An unlimited brunch with a bottomless drink option that gives you access to a wide array of cold and hot appetizers, sushi, rice and noodles for $55 ($70 with the bottomless drink option). And the offerings are all. So. Good. The best way to try as many dishes as possible. The best is to go with a big group to try different dishes together. You can order two dishes per person per order, and some dishes only have two pieces, but some are much more shareable.
I always love getting the hamachi tacos (two per order), made with a crispy wonton for a taco shell, and topped with scallions and seaweed to make a great fleshy crispy bite. The spicy wontons are soupy slippery oily great and good to share, but I don't judge if you wouldn't want to share much. The sushi rolls are filled with quality ingredients, but my personal go-tos are the stone pot, bowls, and poke bowls. The poke don has very fresh, well dressed tuna or salmon (or both). The buri bap, a yellowtail stone pot bowl, is a must. It comes with thick slabs of soy marinated yellowtail atop scorching rice and bibimbap vegetables. The staff mix the dish table side, so by the time it gets to you, there could be some crisping going on (yum). The shishito peppers and their umami laden bonito flakes are plentiful and a great veggie dish to munch on while deciding on your next items to get. you're probably wondering which bao to get, to which I would suggest getting both the softshell crab and pork belly baos. What do you have to lose, you're eating an unlimited menu! The softshell crab has great flavor, but not much flesh, so keep that in mind to contrast with the fluffy bao. A hit with every table that I sat at are the sticky ribs, since they are incredibly tender and dowsed in slightly spicy hoisin sauce. With a big enough group, you won't end up ordering just one dish of it!
Honestly? With the size of the menu and the options, unless someone has a bazillion food aversions, you and whoever you come with will find several things to love, if not fall in love with the whole menu. The bottomless drink add-on is worth it when you have a ride, since the drink offerings are so unique compared to other places. I've had plenty of the house Morimoto sake, always a great pairing with the dishes. The lychee mimosa is delightful, albeit sweet, to drink and eat. The sake sangria is refreshing and a much needed variation of the standard sangria. many of my friends were obsessed with the Yuzu Shiso Spritzer, which is a mocktail but is included in the drink package and is a great mixer with sake (haha).
Should you choose to come to brunch, and I can't stress how much you should, be prepared to stay for a few hours. Every time that I have gone, service has been very slow, no matter how sparsely seated the dining room is. There seems to be a staffing shortage, but the orders always come through. I would suggest grabbing as many drink orders as you can, if you are getting the bottomless drink package, since you won't know the next time you will be able to. Other than those points, there's no reason you shouldn't make some brunch plans here as...
Read moreSo.... this is the1st time back to one of Morimoto's establishments since Morimoto Napa (2 years ago). After that experience I never wanted to go to his restaurants again. That being said, it was my birthday and it was a surprise. By this time, Momosan Wynwood had been open about 3 weeks give or take on top of which, in the middle of covid.
We got there about 5 min past the reservation time but there was no issue, we were seated with 2 min of checking in. The wait staff was there almost immediately to check in with us and take or drink orders. When we inquired about the different Sake, the staff called in Andrew (more on him later). Andrew explained the different Sake they had available and aske about our preferences. We ended up speaking about all the different Sake we have had the good fortune to indulge in. At which point Andrew guided us on to 3 different selections. During our conversation about Sake, it came up that we had visited a few of Morimoto's restaurants in the past. When the Napa location came up, Andrew then told us he doesn't work for any location specifically but at the corporate level (crew that in sent out to open new locations) and he was there for the opening of all the locations that I had visited. He also mentioned that shortly after our visit to the Napa location, he was there to do retraining and encouraged us revisit the location.
Let's talk about the food ordered..... From the Starters: Duck Tacos, Kakuni Bao and Kakuni (all the starters were excellent!) Tableside Prepared from the main entrees: Wagyu Pho, A5 Wagyu Strip & Ishiyaki A5 Wagyu. We were entertained with the table side presentation as they explained each step of the preparation for the different dishes. Other main entrees: Tonkotsu Ramen, Chicken Ramen & Peking Duck. Items we didn't order (complements of the location): Sashimi appetizer & Hot Oil Carpaccio. These were totally unexpected and very delicious.
Of all the main dishes we had the opportunity to try, by far the outstanding favorite was the Wagyu Pho. The depth of flavor was outstanding, it really blew me away. If I never had Tonkotsu before that night I would have given it better marks. Overall the Tonkotsu was just ok.
The only reservation we could get for that evening was at 10 PM, they closed at 11 PM and due to covid restriction in place by the city (all locations had to be closed by midnight). We felt a bit rushed....
Our overall experience was good, it could have been better.... We will be back for sure and guaranteed to get the Pho.
One last note, Andrew and the staff of Momosan Wynwood, thank you for experience and the food. This experience has renewed my faith in The Chef (Masaharu Morimoto). When back in Napa, I will certainly give Morimoto Napa...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience!! After a few days of subpar food, we read an article about the best restaurants in Miami (we were visiting from out of town). My partner is a huge fan of the tv show, Iron Chef show, and as soon as the article mentioned a restaurant by Morimoto, we made dinner reservations.
As we drove to the restaurant, I admit I was a little nervous, because the police were on almost every corner and graffiti on nearly every building. But, as we rounded the last corner, a hip-looking restaurant appeared with bright lights and people dining on the patio. Walking up, you could few the energy of the place and hear the music.
When we got inside, we were wowed - the restaurant was clean, bright, open, airy and decorated so beautifully. We got seated and our server came with the best energy that we’d witnessed since arriving in Miami. They explained the menu and highlighted popular items, with descriptions that made our mouths water.
Needless to say, we ordered just about everything they mentioned. Honey, THE FOOD DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! We try not to eat pork, but THE STICKY RIBS (aka OMG Ribs, according to the server) were the highlight of the night. The next day, my partner said he should’ve ordered another serving but didn’t want to be greedy.
We also ordered Peking duck (that came with warm tortillas and toppings to make tacos), a shrimp tempura sushi roll, buri bap (stir fry with yellowtail), and soft shell bao (a soft shell crab in a bun). To say the food was cooked to perfection was an understatement. Every dish left us in a euphoric mood and excited for what was coming next.
For drinks, we had a mango matchasu cocktail (nice and sweet), a strawberry margarita, and the sake sangria. The sangria was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS - sweet and refreshing with blueberries and strawberries. It came in a 24 ounce pitcher, and we got 2-3 glasses out of it. We should’ve ordered this instead for the other drinks, but wanted to try a few others.
Our reservation was for 9pm and the restaurant closed at 10, so we were nervous about staying past closing. But they continued to serve us as if they had just opened for the day. We were supposed to get ice cream after dinner, but we were so delightfully full that we just went back to the hotel and passed out. We’re still reminiscing about that dinner and will definitely go back if we’re ever in...
