This is an establishment in coconut grove. As far as I know, they've been here at least 30 years during the week the place is nice and quiet. However, sometimes the UM students, if they have an event, they come and storm the place. I'm talking about at least 100 University of Miami students in Sanbar grill.
But that's not a big deal, the um students are fine. It's not like they're drunk and causing a big scene or anything. The last time I was there all of them were wearing banana costumes, I have no idea why. This was on a Sunday night.
During the weekdays, around lunch time, all the way up until 6:00 p.m., the place is not that busy at all. The service is top notch. They have a nice selection of draft beers, especially local brews.
If you're driving a car, parking is going to be an issue. You're probably going to have to park a little bit further away and have to walk to Sandbar Grill. If you're riding a motorcycle, then you have no issues.
This place gets packed on weekend nights, especially during the later hours. I'm talking about into the wee hours of the morning.
I'm pretty sure they have live entertainment and karaoke nights, but I'm not 100% sure. The reason I mentioned this is because I remember driving by once, and seeing a live band performing in there.
Just so you know, the secret of this place is that there are two distinct entrances and exits. One is facing grand avenue, the other is on the other side facing Fuller street. This is good because you have better...
Read moreAfter ordering our food, they entered it wrong, delivered one of the entrees then came back a few min later stating they entered the other order wrong and it would be 10 more min for the other dish to come out. After explaining to the waitress that my dish never should have been brought out without the other, she asked if she wanted me to have it brought back an placed under the warmer until the other order was done. Ummm no. It would be like shoe leather?!?! The order finally comes out an is WRONG!! So we asked to send it back and speak to the manager. The manager, Angel, who was more so trying to excuse what they did. I explained that my food never should have been brought out and that when someone asks for something on the side that it means a separate dish. Not on the side of all the other food. I had to send my food back to be made over because it was cold from sitting. Once the food finally came it was good food, which was nice considering the hassle. There was no offer to compensate us on our bill or even offer us a complimentary drink after the hassle and the extra wait to have both our dishes redone. And when asked about it he refused and said no and tried to justify the actions of the kitchen, waitstaff and himself. Really disappointed overall. If we come back to sandbar ever again......it will be drinks only. Too bad considering this was the last night of our vacation and we drove 30 min to come here...
Read moreIf you're a fan of mahi fish tacos, this spot is an absolute must-visit! I've been indulging in their tacos since 2006, and they are the sole reason I ever find myself there. While the menu boasts a variety of delicious items, it's the mahi fish tacos that keep me coming back.
Having lived in Miami and traveled to various states and countries, I've made it a point to visit this place whenever I can. Whether it's ordering 3-6 tacos with fries and savoring every bite outside or making a special trip, these tacos never disappoint.
A memorable moment was during my pregnancy in 2018. I drove my Lexus from Maryland to Coconut Grove just to satisfy an intense craving for these tacos. I called ahead to ensure they’d be open and have my order ready, and though it felt a bit crazy at the time, leaving there so happy and full was worth every mile!
Even though I thought they might have closed permanently during and after COVID, I was thrilled to return in December 2021 and find them open. I can't wait for my next I hope it's around forever so that I can take my grandchildren one day...
