Iām currently coming off the See Donut diet and into a sugar high. I went to the grand opening in Coconut Grove! I have to admit, Iām not a big donut person, but my purchases today made me feel good about life, and maybe a nap. The donuts start at $4.50, and for their grand opening, they are debuting a Fireman Derekās Pie Stuffed Donut, a LoKal Frita Kolache with Kush, and two ice cream sandwiches with Salt and Straw ice cream, on consecutive days.
I rolled myself out of bed and made it after 7am (they're open 7am-10pm!) to be treated to samples of their Maple & Brown Sugar Cold Brew and Cinnamon Crunch Cookie. It was a lovely way to jumpstart the weekend! The cold brew was maple sweetened just enough to be a treat on an early Saturday morning by itself, not with donuts. The Cinnamon Crunch Cookie was chewy and had the dense texture and cinnamon flavor that I could eat multiples of.
The inside is bright, easy to look around and has about 4 tables for people to sit, drink their coffee and eat. You pretty much automatically get a box for your donuts but there were people just getting wax paper sleeves instead for dine in.
I had the Fireman Derekās Pie Stuffed donut with their salted caramel pie inside The Salty's 24 hour brioche. The salted caramel pieās gooey, oat like texture was the perfect filling for the glazed brioche on the outside. My only issue was that it was so small, I wolfed it down in 4 bites! Then I was sad it was gone. The Strawberry Shortcake donut is genius. The fluffy brioche with all whipped fillings and toppings made everything come together in my mouth as a shortcake. The whipped strawberry filling was probably my favorite part of it. How do these people not dip a spoon into it every time theyāre filling these donuts? The Blueberry Crumb Cake donut (gluten free) is obviously textured different because of the use ofā-I want to say almond flour, to make it gluten free. But the blueberry jam filling, the blueberry glaze, and the dense cake had a lovely homemade feel to it that was so comforting, Iām taking my chances and putting most of it in the fridge to have later. I can tell the brioche donuts will not keep well and need to be eaten immediately, but the cake donuts may hold for a bit.
Hot tip: the entrance is on McFarlane Road even though their address is on Grand Avenue. I walked up and down Grand Avenue so you donāt have to. Go check them out for your next...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI live right across the street from this location. I go there literally everyday. Itās the second time that the attendant Deidra. J. Gives me an attitude out of the blue. I know the company since it was a food truck on Sundays at Lincoln Road, back in 2021 and nobody ever spoke to me so rudely. So itās Tuesday afternoon and I go grab my coffee (itās the BEST in Miami, believe me!), and I forgot to ask for almond milk. When I realized my mistake, I spoke with the lady that was preparing my coffee and asked to pay for it, she was super polite and said ānever mindā. I, then, decided to buy a Donut so that I could pay for the almond milk fee as well. Thatās when the problem started. This Deidra charged me $9.09 for the Donut and the almond milk. When I politely asked her the reason for the $9.00 charge once the donut costs $4.75 and the almond milk $1.50, she flipped and raised the voice saying that there was no other way to charge. I said I didnāt understand what she was saying and then she got angry and gave me a worse attitude saying she didnāt care and I had to pay. Just to be decent I purchased the donut so I could pay for the extra almond milk and then thereās this person literally raising their voice and embarrassing me in front of the other people in the store. I asked her once again why the attitude once I was being super polite and asking her the reason of the charge, then she turned back to me and yelled to me once againāI DONāT CARE, it is the way it is and you must pay.ā Well, I paid and asked for her name, and she refused to say. I then realized itās on the receipt.
Iād like also to mention that I went to the store last Sunday, 10/06/2024, and the same girl was there, apparently alone. I asked her for a coffee and she rudely replied that they were out of coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been a salty donut customer since 2018, and since this location is closer to my house, I decided to order. I called ahead of time to make sure they had what I wanted in stock, so I ordered an iced chai tea latte with expresso and no ice through the salty donut app. A doggie donut, two glazed, one whoopie, and one Samoa. When my order arrived, it did not include the doggie donut, and the store never called or notified me that it did not include the donut. When I called the store, I asked why it wasn't included, and they said they didn't know why because the donut was in stock... and when I drank the iced chai latte, let me tell you that it was the worst drink I have ever tasted. First and foremost, there was no chai, which I know because I love chai, and no expresso shots, which I paid extra for. It tasted like spoiled milk, and I don't know why it was brown. There were no expresso shots or chai, and it was terrible, so I threw it out. Those donuts... When I went to get my Samoa donut out of the box, the underneath was slimy and wet, and the donut tasted two days old. The glazed donuts were okay. The whoopie donut was good; it should have been a regular size donut, but it was smaller, like a mini donut, for $5, which I do not believe is worth it. This is by far my worst experience as a...
