Title: Disappointing Experience at Sophia's Michigan City Restaurant
Rating: ⭐
I recently visited Sophia's Michigan City Restaurant and decided to try their spinach feta omelet. While the food arrived on time, I was disappointed to find that the omelet had a strange oil-like odor. Despite attempting to eat it, I had to send it back as the smell was quite unpleasant.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when the waitress brought me the bill for the omelet, even though I had returned it to the kitchen. Hoping for some understanding, I spoke to the owner about the situation, expecting a resolution. However, I was met with surprising inflexibility.
The owner claimed in a firm and rather dismissive tone that in the entire ten years of operating, no customer had ever sent back a spinach omelet. To my dismay, he refused to refund the cost of the omelet, indicating that his perspective always overrides that of the customer.
This experience left me disheartened and dissatisfied with Sophia's Michigan City Restaurant. It's disheartening to encounter a place where the customer's opinion is not valued, and the owner's perspective reigns supreme.
While I understand that mistakes can happen in any establishment, it is crucial for a business to handle such situations with empathy and a willingness to rectify them. Unfortunately, this was not the case at Sophia's Michigan City Restaurant.
I hope that the management of Sophia's Michigan City Restaurant reflects on the importance of customer satisfaction and reevaluates their approach when faced with similar incidents...
Read moreI've visited the Michigan City location on many occasions, however, my experience Sunday morning on January 14th is the visit that influenced me to end my patronage with this Sophia's. I ordered the two eggs breakfast with turkey sausage, hashbrowns and opted for the pancakes. I requested onions in the hashbrowns and asked that everything be cooked well done. After about 10 minutes my food arrived and seeing that the meat was not done enough, I requested it be put back on the grill. As the waitress walked away with the plate, I began buttering the pancakes only to discover that the butter wouldn't melt because the pancakes were cold. When she returned with the sausage(which looked exactly the same as it did before) I informed the waitress the pancakes were cold and her reply was, "What do you want me to do?" When I repeated, that they were cold, she seemed a bit frustrated and asked, again, "what do you want me to do, you want me to heat them up?" I informed her that I did, and as she took my plate I began to eat the hashbrowns which I discovered were barely warm. At this point, I decided this would be my last time patronizing this restaurant. I ate part of the pancakes and requested a carryout container for everything else. While I did leave a tip, I chose not to respond to the cashier's question of, "How was everything," as there was no point since I will not be a...
Read moreMy partner and I were excited for our breakfast date and were excited to go to Sofia’s Pancakes. We were seated quickly, received our drinks, and our food arrived looking and tasting great. But the service was incredibly disappointing.
Our waitress—a Hispanic woman with brown hair and highlights—told us she’d be right back with a coffee refill. She never returned. No coffee, no water, no check-in. She completely disappeared. We didn’t see her again until the very end. My partner and I were stunned—this level of neglect is something we’ve never experienced while dining out.
When she finally came back, her only explanation was that she was “too busy.” That’s not acceptable. We’ve been to plenty of breakfast spots that were just as busy, and the staff still delivered respectful, attentive service.
I don’t leave negative reviews lightly, and I always consider how demanding the job can be. But this wasn’t a case of being overwhelmed—it was total disregard. Basic service like a quick check-in or a simple refill should never be overlooked.
If zero stars for service were an option, that’s exactly what we’d give. The food was good, but the service ruined the entire experience.
We won’t be returning. There’s no point in spending $30 just for good food when the service is this poor. I’d rather take my money somewhere that values both the food and the...
