TLDR: Food was 6/10, service was 2/10. Tasty though not very spicy, which was disappointing for a place we chose to have very spicy food. The worst parts of service: a server served meat dish to vegetarians as a vegetarian dish & NO ONE apologized for this mistake after our vegetarians discovered the mistake by eating a piece of chicken!! Also, an uttapam never came after 45 minutes and only on the 5th time we asked about it were we told that the kitchen ran out of batter and couldn't make it.
Our visit: we went as a group during work lunch to have spicy food, having been told by a friend that this restaurant specialized in spicy dishes. We ordered all the dishes at once, mix of appetizers and mains to share. Dosa, crab masala, lollipop chicken, biryani and lentil dumplings were all good, though at most 3/10 spice level. The bindi masala (okra) curry was almost all gravy, very little okra, which was disappointing. We also ordered paneer masala and vegetable uttapam which never made it for various reasons.
A very upsetting thing that occurred during lunch was: a waiter served a chicken masala dish to our group, telling us verbally it was "paneer masala", which was a dish we had ordered. We passed this dish to vegetarians in our group, who moments later were extremely upset when they discovered (by eating it) that this was actually chicken. We informed the staff that this had been served as a vegetarian dish, wrongly, and that this was an unacceptable mixup for the staff to make. The servers unfortunately did not seem apologetic about the mixup, and neither the waiter who served this dish nor the manager came out to apologize to the affected vegetarians. What is more, we were charged for this dish, which we did not order! A good restaurant would have had the manager at least apologize to us and explain they would be more careful about labeling something vegetarian unless they were absolutely sure, and would have taken this mistake off our bill.
To make matters worse, one of our vegetarians had ordered an uttapam dish. This never arrived! After 45 minutes of waiting, on the fifth time we asked about the dish, we were told that the kitchen ran out of batter and we'd need to choose a different dish. A dosa was chosen and this did come pretty quickly, however it is shocking that we had to ask 5 times about a dish before actually being told why it wasn't coming. Surely the kitchen knew right away that they could not make the dish! We would have appreciated communication so we knew earlier to pick a different dish. This error slowed our whole party's exit from the restaurant by 15 minutes as we waited for...
Read moreUpdating my year old review- Anjappar Milpitas has always felt like visiting a place for soul food. My husband and I visit atleast once every week. Our favorites are their chicken burnt garlic chowmein, chilli chicken, prawn pepper onion, dosas are great, mutton curry is delicious and honely, Sreeraga samba mutton biryani is fantastic, lime soda sweet and salt is amazing and chicken lollipops are a house favorite. Their thalis are amazing. The spinach daal, veggie of the day and steaming hot rice in the thalis is amazing! They can work on their chapati though. The chapati in both our thalis was inedible and undercooked and very hard last night. One of the veggies in both our thalis was served cold meaning, must have been prepared in the morning or something. I will continue to be a patron of this restaurant and I like this location better than it's sister nearby. We had their falooda last night and it looked amazing! The taste was good. I suggest the falooda noodles be added warm as they were frozen in the glass and we could not taste them. They have a new tandoori menu for all the tandoori lovers. I will be returning for my indo chinese fix soon.
.........................................................................
We reached the restaurant at exactly their opening time this early afternoon and our indo chinese lunch today was fantastic. We got the burnt garlic noodles and added chicken to it, the schezwan non veg meal thali, prawn pepper onion and chicken hot and sour soup. Everything was fantastic! The noodles were so flavorful! The prawn pepper onion is one of their signature dishes. It's amazing! I'm fond of their mutton bone soup and Indo-chinese soups. We loved the thali meal. It was limited but filling. The chicken sweet and sour gravy that came in the meal tasted subtle and tasty.
The service was very humble and it felt good dining here. The atmosphere is welcoming. We spoke to the owner/manager and let them know that their food was fantastic. Love to spread happy smiles when a restaurant serves up delicious food with great service! We'll be loyal patrons for sure. Looking forward to more such...
Read moreI am writing with heartfelt disappointment about the food quality and the waiter / manager's intelligence to ensure I am still billed for the food.
We group of 7 people went to the restaurant at Milpitas and we ordered our food in single shot since we were asked to.
We ordered two starters : Chicken 65, Gobi 65 - These were actually good to eat and made me think that the quality other foods will also be good.
Next the Egg Kothu Parotta came. I dont know the Chef in this restaurant really knows the meaning of "Kothu" Parotta. The dish was actually made by cutting the parotta in small pieces and just fried with tomato egg and some gravy.. It was totally worse, there was not even a pepper spicyness I felt. The food tasted actually bit sweet.
Then the Parotta and Chettinad chicken curry - We ordered two plates. The moment I took first bite of the chicken, I felt some weird smell from chicken and I immediately called the manager / waiter and complained about that. He was trying to convince me saying if he can bring mutton curry etc. I clearly told him I dont want any gravy but they better not to bill me for gravy but they can bill me for parotta. He asked me how will I eat the parotta. I said I will take TOGO. He then offered me saying he will atleast bring me some salna... I initially thought it was nothing but a usual gravy they provide for briyani...
But to my surprise, he brought me with 2 parottas (how intelligent he was. His motive was to bill me for those 2 chicken gravy orders by compensating with this useless plain salna and parotta which I never asked)
I dont want to talk about the briyani :) . It was nothing but a masala rice with 2 small pieces and 1 plain bone of chicken in the rice...
Dear Anjappar Folks, Please stop fooling your customers. Better admit to your failure in serving the quality food.
