Came with my family to have a quick dinner and Kokoro Ramen sufficed but was hardly the best ramen experience in the bay.
We began our meal with the takoyaki. The dish comes with 5 and is unfortunately smothered in dried bonito shreds and mayo which takes away from the experience a bit in my opinion. I would have preferred it to be a little lighter on the two condiments and instead add in pickled ginger or more nori seasoning. Still, it was delivered piping hot so kudos to that.
Next we added a mini spicy pork donburi. I thought this was excellent on flavor but the rice left some to be desired. It may have been cooled because for Japanese rice, the grains were loose rather than warm and glutinous. Donburi is supposed to be one of those ultimate comfort dishes after all.
Finally came our rounds of ramen. I opted for the black garlic ramen which was presented very nicely with a smorgasbord of toppings. Noodles were cooked well, but much thicker than average Japanese ramen places. Char siu is hardly what I would consider generous - two measly slices? Meh. At least they weren't too fatty. I also tried my best to ration noodles with toppings but eventually found myself eating spoonfuls of bean sprouts and woodear mushrooms towards the end...and you can imagine how delectable that must have been.
Overall, the meal was an average...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocated in Milpitas, this charming Japanese Ramen joint may not be the ideal choice for vegetarian or vegan individuals, as suggested by others. While there is one option available for Vegetarian Ramen, it features a soy-based broth with fish powder, essentially making it a fish broth. Therefore, there is only one soup-less Maje Ramen option for vegetarians. We tried this dish and found it enjoyable, it comes at a spicy level, no need for additional spicy sauce. Standard option comes with kale noodles. However, it's worth noting that the ramen comes with a poached egg, which may not be suitable for vegetarians. If you fall into this category, be sure to request the omission of the egg. Additionally, we had the Curry Croquette, which resembled an Indian Cutlet and was undeniably delicious. It is highly recommended. We also tried the Chicken Mayo bowl (Mini Donburi), consisting of sticky rice topped with fried chicken and mayo, which was quite tasty. It would be beneficial to include more vegan and true vegetarian options on the menu to cater to a wider range of dietary...
