We visited Milwaukee Iron Horse Hotel and decided to spend evening in Ash restaurant. First we were set at low tight small wooden table right by the column so my husband was feeling the breath of the lady by next table. We asked to change the table and our server was able to do it, so we could watch the cooks doing our food on open kitchen. We came at 8 pm, the restaurant was not very packed. It was interesting to watch the cooks doing our food at open kitchen. We ordered Grilled Avocado (+), Elk Loin (+), Rushing Water Trout (+- not enough of taste), Grilled Potato Confit (- it was burnt), Smashed Fingerlings (+) Our server was very friendly and nice, she was there when we needed her.

Went on my birthday and had an exceptional experience! The fat candle was divine, the Brussel sprouts were perfection, the cod was beyond delicious, the elk loin was juicy, and the right texture! I don't even know how to properly explain the nirvana I experienced when I took my first bite of the chefs special wagu filet! That slice of heaven literally melted in my mouth! For desert I had the apple with whipped cream and caramel, the whipped cream was hand made, and the perfect ending to a magical evening in culinary heaven! The server was the best I've had in a long time she was very attentive and did her best to make our experience the best it could be! She deserves a raise!

We came with a group of 10 or so for lunch during the week. We were the only group in the dining room. Unfortunately it took something close to 60 minutes to get food…the server was perfectly friendly, but I can’t help but think they were drafted to help a short-staffed kitchen. She was absent with very few checkins. We would have ordered more drinks but were never given an opportunity. The ambience is great! The walls are adorned with art and the furnishings are tasteful and attractive. Overall the food was good.

We had been looking forward to coming for months and we were not disappointed by our server; she was knowledgeable and very kind.

However, that is where I have to halt my praise for this restaurant. A group of 4 of us each ordered a protein: 2 flat iron steaks (1 medium and 1 medium-well), the marinated chicken, and the scallops, as well as an order of the smashed potatoes to share.

The potatoes came out HOT! Which is great, however I can only assume it was at the cost of almost everything else. Our steaks and chicken were Cold. Just cold.

We asked our server for a solution, the chicken was brought to the back where I can only assume what happened. But it came back out very hot, very quickly…I have something in my kitchen that dries up chicken reheating it quickly too. Our steaks (pre sliced) were put back on the grill and although now warm and very good, were no longer medium and medium well, they were respectively now a degree more cooked.

Nothing was taken off the bill as though the mistakes and expectations for disappointment are just part of the dining experience. Suffice to say our group cannot recommend this place and...

No quite sure what to say other than the phrase, “Been there, done that.” Definitely no need to go back. Not my choice, but my daughters to order the grilled bread cheese. I would say awful but the preserve was decent. The bakery who provided the bread was good. The porterhouse would be just the same at a chain restaurant like Outback, well below par. The grilled potato confit was a dried out potato wedge at best. Thankfully, the dill added some flavor. The bread pudding was ok but wasn’t overwhelming. Sadly, it was the best part of the dinner. It would have been nice if the hostess was warm and friendly, perhaps said Merry Christmas. The waitress was ok. Restaurant staff is hard to come by these days and it’s showing here, sadly it’s lacking in several areas. I’ve always loved the ambiance at the Iron Horse. Disappointing to see the quality of the restaurant at a boutique hotel I’ve always admired and recommended to others is falling so short of...

I was visiting Milwaukee from Wausau, and one of my relatives had confirmed reservations on her phone which she showed the hostess at 8:45 pm on a Saturday night. We were all dressed up as well and ready to have a great night and got told by the hostess that the restaurant is closed for a private party. The hostess said she is sorry and she thought someone had called us even though no one did! She said she was sorry and would reschedule us for another night; too bad for that I don't live here and would not be in town to come next week or weekend. Because the communication was god awful and because there were very few places to go to eat and we had absolutely no communication whatsoever, we will not return!

I couldn't rate anything besides the service for the restaurant because it's hard to rate something when you don't...
