The experience of having eaten at this place was like watching an Indian movie. If you are reading this review and wouldn’t know know how a typical Indian movie’s storyline would look like, it has its highs, lows, happy moments and sad moments.
Went with my wife yesterday and we were seated promptly. The server got our orders right away starting with the starters. We ordered a tomato soup and aloo tikki and we requested for a spice level of maximum. The problem with a lot of Indian restaurants here in the USA is that they add crushed peppers to spice up and the taste becomes raw on the mouth. It was the same case yesterday.
Next came the onion naan and pakora curry. The pakora curry tasted too good and so did the onion naan. Just when we were about to finish up the naan, turned up the last piece and it turned out to be over cooked. We requested if that one piece could be replaced but the host was kind enough to get us a whole set of 4 naans. We were astonished by their level of customer service.
We were done with the dinner and then requested for check. This restaurant has a paid parking place at the back and this restaurant validates the card so that you don’t have to pay for it at the exit. The server gave back the card and to the grand exit we could have asked, we were still made to pay for the parking.
Yes, we experienced all extremes of emotions just like watching an Indian movie - Delighted by the taste, astonished by their customer service and depressed by the...
Read moreWe generally love Darbar, they have some amazing flavors and we've tried multiple dishes. We especially like the Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef Shahi Korma, Fish Tikka, Gobi Manchurian, and Daal, to name just a few. Sometimes their chicken is cubed VERY large and both chicken and fish can be dry but the amazing sauce has always made up for that.
Unfortunately, their pick-up/delivery orders are inconsistent. Sometimes it's amazing, flavorful, and our entrees and rice are served in well sized tins with plastic lids, with more "sauce based" entrees in a smaller plastic container. Which makes the price point to portion size comprable, in our opinion. But lately everything is thrown into small plastic containers. We've also noticed that they seem to have started with holding and not giving as much rice as they use to. And when you're paying over $20 for an entree and you get a small plastic tupperware filled with 5 bites of fish and sparce vegetables. It's disappointing..
We typically order just under $100 worth every order, but with smaller portions sizes in containers not filled to the top, and inconsistent flavors. We've found that our favorite Indian place may not be frequented by us as much. We still love their food, and recommend it, but we personally can't justify our...
Read moreVegan knowledgeable staff and food options. The dal and pakora were the best I've ever had. I brought three finicky women along who had never tasted Indian food, including my sister, whose picky palette is legendary; all three were blown away and delighted by the delicious world that is Indian cuisine.
Very affordable and reasonably priced menu. My pakora and dal was about $15. Great deal; especially given the high quality of the food. Splitting our bill into separate checks was a breeze with the modern, hand held device our waitress brought to the table. Couldn't recommend Dar Bar more. GREAT establishment! Can't wait to return!
Sexy dining room with large windows facing West Lake Street. Bespoke, ornate serving-ware was a pleasant surprise.
I parked in the paid lot directly adjacent on the south side of the building. They validate parking inside, aka free parking, just bring in your ticket. There is also paid parking on Lake Street, which is one way, eastbound on this end of Lake street. On street parking is paid at a kiosk - about one per block all along this area. Just remember your parking space number before walking...
