O'Donovan's Irish Pub — Restaurant in Minneapolis

We went to the supposed Christmas event they had in the bar area. The way they advertised the event online was a completely deceiving.

It was not even close to what they showed and described in their online ad. They pretty much false advertised just to get people in the door, and when you got there, all they did was throw up some red drapes at the entrance to their back bar, then had the bar area decorated which looked like a bunch of kindergarteners did it.

You had to purchase tickets ahead of time for the event, which gave you a two hour slot in the fake event. When you went in, it was just a bar that they crammed to many people into, in a nutshell, they just made up an event, posted a bunch of false photos online to make it look appealing.

Then they sold tickets for the phoney event, for $20 a head just to be able to go in their bar to buy drinks. It was a complete deception, and you could see it on everyone's faces that were there.

I would never recommend this place, it was obvious this was a desperation move to try and get some revenue in the place, as the entire main part of there restaurant had about 5 people in it. Also, we could have just walked in off tge street and sat at their main bar and only paid for whatever we ordered, instead of paying an additional twenty dollars a head just to be able to buy drinks.

Our server was 'Sean S.' and he was fantastic. Upon arrival the establishment appeared to be drowning busy. We were informed to sit wherever we would like to. After waiting with menu's for around 3 minutes, my date and I figured out what drinks we would like, and to my surprise we even came to decisions on what we would order. Sean popped over to our table and asked if our server has met with us yet. Once I informed him they hadn't, he gracefully offered to grab our drink order. I was stoked when he also took the Hail Mary that we were ready to order food after only being there for 5 minutes, and he put our food order in. Our drinks came very quickly and as I was nearly finished with my Guinness Sean checked in which enabled me to order another without having to do at the arrival of my food which is critical. & it turned out that our food got sent to the wrong table, and Sean had to resubmit our order and it would be taking longer than expected. Stopped on a Saturday after a dance competition. Self seating, a bit challenging on a busier night, lots of dirty tables (including our "clean" one). Pretty quick greet, drinks out in reasonable time, food was fast, including an extra side of fries we didn't order and sent back upon delivery.

Food was fine, not great kids options. Fish was a little overbreaded but good otherwise, Prime rib sandwich was good. Fries were plentiful bordering on overwhelming but zero seasoning, basic Sysco frozen fries.

Service was between meh and shoulder-shrugging. The serving staff regularly on smart watches and phones including entrance to kitchen but in guest view and lengthy. No water refills, no check-ins, no boxes offered, no check offered. Plenty of staff on but with blinders. Didn't feel any guest was a priority. Had to explain twice about extra fry side charge, felt as an annoyance, no hospitality. Server went so far as to dispute the issue stating we had ordered the side.

Bummer experience as I was excited to finally eat here since we're in the area for dance a bit.
