Got a haircut here today and look, I was not expecting the ritz or anything but my experience was far far below what I was expecting. My stylist was very nice don’t get me wrong. Very chatty and friendly, however my scalp is still hurting from how rough he was with my head. He started by brushing out my hair aggressively, not minding that my unwanted hair was in knots. I winced. While he was washing my hair it felt like half of all my hair had fallen out with how violently he scrubbed and pulled. Thankful that was over, I was eager to get my cut and leave... needless to say, the haircut wasn’t much different from the pain I experienced before. I was happy to finally leave until I got home and noticed my hair was completely crooked. He had framed my face with some layers in the front and my right side was 2 inches longer than the left. All I wanted was a haircut. Now my scalp is raw, and it looks like a 8 years old cut my hair. Would’ve rather gone to...
Read moreAvant really deserves more attention. I was told about it in the early 90s by a stylist who was doing my hair for a photo shoot. He noted I had badly done highlights and recommended Avant as the place to go for master stylists/colorists. I started going to their old location off Nicollet Mall (remember the TVs in the floors?). Years later in their new Skyway location, it's still the master stylist salon. If you need a flattering style that is both hip and professional, this is the place for you. If you work in Downtown Minneapolis (as I used to do) it's so convenient. It's also a beautifully designed Aveda Concept Salon, which is icing on the cake. It's the only salon to which I'd be fully confident referring both my female friend and male friends. I always feel welcomed there even if I'm just stopping in to...
Read moreI'd give this salon another try if I got a different hair dresser. The space is nice, the experience was decent, but my hair dresser was not it. All she did was chat about herself/her life in the most braggy way, she didn't ask me a single question about myself, my hair, anything. A lot of assumptions and to top it all off she called my straight hair "bleh" to my face. My hair doesn't curl and curls aren't the only style out there. And I like my straight hair anyway? I came out of it with a lot of strays I had to fix myself at home. Even on their website it says "After an epidemic of ultra-straight hair" there's nothing wrong with ultra straight hair and some people's hair just doesn't. I'd be willing to go back and see a different stylist as long as I won't get shamed for having a certain...
