Overall, this place is okay. What hurts the rating is the service. The food is okay. Food: New England Clam Chowder in a bowl was good. It has a milky taste. Bread wasn't too sour. The $11 price tag doesn't justify the worth. It taste like any other clam chowder you can get at the Cannery. The Alaskan Salmon taste like it was frozen. Part of the fish was dry. It didn't taste fishy, which is what I usually worry about in a fish. The French Dip was okay. Nothing to brag about. The sauce could of been more generous. The meat was good. Not too dry. Service: The server Tyler is quick to get our order. Our drinks came out at a reasonable time. Our food, however took forever... I believe they forgot about us since we saw people who came after us got their food. The food felt warm. Not hot. Price: It was pricey for what it was. For the price I paid, I would expect better service or better food. Both were lacking. Beer will set you $7-9 bucks a glass. Sandwiches are in the $13-$20. Special entries are about $15-$25. Ambience: This place feels cozy. Has a bar vibe. Plenty of seats. Lots of televisions that have multiple games running. There are a quite a few vehicle decors located throughout the restaurant. There is a dance floor and stage for performances.

The location is fantastic close to the ocean if you get a great seat you see a view of the beautiful Monterey Bay. Located right at steinblack Plaza where you get awesome shopping experiences a great Street to stroll on a really good starting point if you're visiting the nearby aquarium. We were seated right away on a busy Sunday which was great. However the food was mediocre. I ordered the lobster roll with the house sauce and the butter sauce on the side. I found myself feeling like there wasn't enough flavor and it lacked excitement. My dad had the only steak they offered which was the prime. He thought it was okay. The service was a little slow but the views of the bay made up for it. I will say this place is a little bit more of a sports bar than a dining restaurant. The staff was very casual and Young it does look like they have night time music so it really is a place to just chill out be casual and grab a quick bite to eat.

Everything on the menu was over priced. We paid $23 for Fish and Chips when other restaurants around were only charging somewhere near $16 (we found out afterwards.) Which is ok if they were delicious. But the fish was a little over cooked, see picture above, so the fish was dried and a little tough. The fries were great. That's because I like them real crispy. The Nachos were fantastic except the chicken. The shreded chicken was like eating broken chips made out of chicken but tough to chew because they also were over cooked. Some were actually too tough to chew. The sauce they had tested so good that I over looked at dried out chicken and actually enjoyed the great taste. The service, atmosphere, and the location were very nice.

AWFUL SERVICE For being so expensive you'd think you could get decent service. A steak, a burger, and a margarita came out to $60 something dollars, which I wouldn't have minded if I could've gotten anything close to a decent service.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, specifically asked for it to be extra extra extra well done, no tomato, add grilled onion. They brought the steak out about 10 minutes before the burger, so by the time I got my food, the person I was with was already half way done with their food. No biggie. They eventually brought my burger, no grilled onions, lots of tomato. Bit irritating, but again not that big of a deal. What really got me was when I cut into it and saw that it was pink ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Which absolutely disgusted me. The food took so long to come in the first place (wasn't very busy at all) that I didn't want to sit there and wait for it to be recooked, because again, the person I was with was almost done at this point. I didn't say anything (one because it just seemed pointless, two because I'm a server as well and I didn't feel like being difficult) but I definitely couldn't eat it, just gave it to the person I was with and just ate the maybe 8 or so french fries that came with it. I shouldn't have been so shocked that she got everything so wrong, seeing as she didn't even have a pen and pad to write the order down. Guess she thought she could memorize it? She either thought wrong or just didn't care. I then had to ask THREE SEPERATE SERVERS to get ketchup and napkins for the fries. I was so disgusted with this place. As I was walking out the door, I was discussing how terrible the experience was with the person I was with, and I said something along the lines of "that was awful". A random woman on the sidewalk outside overheard, looked at us and said "OMG I know. I went there for the first time last week. Terrible service right?" I thought maybe it was just a bad day for them, guess that's just the regular there. The ONLY pleasant things about this restaurant were the live music and the manager. The two men playing and singing were great, and though the server never bothered to come check on us, the manager did and he was very helpful and friendly. Even offered to take our drink order, and helped up chose a drink with a great recommendation. Shout out to you guys for being the only part of this experience that didn't absolutely disgust me.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS SAVE YOUR MONEY,...

I think the focus of this place is not on food, but more a bar with jazz music. I’m not sure why they were so busy with the food and experience I received. I stopped in with my daughter after a day at the aquarium. The menu was diverse and would fit our needs; I wanted a bowl of clam chowder and my daughter hates seafood. The food was probably the worst I have had at a restaurant. I agree with the other reviews, I would have enjoyed McDonalds better and I’m not a big fast-food eater. My bowl of chowder had an unusually sweet taste to it, and it was a bit overpowering. Also, I don’t think it had any clams in it—or at least, not many. I also ordered a French-dip sandwich. The au jus didn’t have very much flavor to it. The roast beef was very dry and tasted reheated. I’d bet my paycheck, it had been reheated multiple times in a microwave. The French-fries were so bad I only ate two before pushing the plate away. Day old McDonald fries are better—seriously. My daughter ordered the fettuccine alfredo and added chicken. She said the noodles were fine, but the chicken was too hard to eat. The chicken looked like chicken found in an old cafeteria salad.

The employees were pleasant, but the staff seemed overwhelmed. First, there was no one to seat us and I wasn’t sure if you just seat yourself. When I did this, the busboy looked surprised at my actions. Our waitress took our drink order, then forgot about us. Once she remembered, she apologized and quickly brought our drinks. After our food was served, it took awhile for her to check on us again. I had ran out of my drink and had stopped eating due to thirst. I asked the busboy for more water and assured me he’d get some, and never returned. Finally my waitress asked if everything was okay, I quickly replied that I’d like some water and she finally obliged. I was getting ready to leave, and asked for a doggy bag for my daughter. The waitress asked if we would like a container to put the fettuccine alfredo in, or just the bag. Puzzled, I asked if may have a contain too, because it might be difficult to carry the noodles in just a bag. She returned with doggy bag and container. I then had to request my check, which I thought would be common sense when asking for togo materials. Once I gave her my credit card, I thought she got lost. When she finally brought my card back, she explained that she had returned my card to the wrong table. Needless to say, I’ll never return...

We were embarrassed that extremely disappointed with the service at Sly Fly's. My husband and I are locals and we go to Monterey all the time .We have never had such an unpleasant and embarrassing time such as the one we had while trying to show 3 family members from out of town why we love monterey . We wanted to get food and drinks. When we walked in no one acknowledged us and shortly after a pair of two woman walked in and we so moved to the side so we were not all crowding the door. We waited patiently and when my sister saw someone walking by she asked very politely. Excuse me can we just sit anywhere. That waitress was super rude and used an unpleasant tone of voice and told us we had to wait to be seated. Almost as she finished her sentence another waitress named Kate came in very defensive, very rude and very aggressive. She walked right up to us and her tone of voice was super defensive and in a loud tone of voice asked us what the problem was. We were all confused because we were being treated as if we were causing a scene.Which all we did was simply ask if it was a self seating. I answered her in a clam voice that there was no problem we were simply waiting to be seated. She seated us super rude and was super aggressive. Not once did we feel welcomed. When Kate came back to our table to get our order she was super defensive and rude. When my brother in law ordered a BLAT she embarrassed him by being Super confused by his order. After several attempts to point at menu and re-wording what he wanted she finally understood what he was wanted to order. It seemed unusual that she didn't hear or understand what he wanted to order. We all looked at each other confused as to why she was having a hard time understanding him. There was no music at the time that she took our order and it was not super loud.So we couldn't understand why she was having such a hard time understanding my brother in law. It was embarrassing to say the least. We should have left after the way they greeted us and sat us but i had hoped that the vibe would change and that the food would at least be worth it. The mixed drinks we ordered were super water-down. Needless to say we will never go there ever again. We got treated like we had done something wrong or trouble makers. Oddly enough she did tell us we were her first table of the day and we were...
