What happened? This used to be one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the Bay Area! I’ve been going to FJL or Georgie’s for 50 years. (For those of you that don’t already know- FJL and Georgie’s are essentially the same restaurant/menu.)
This new remodel, though is HORRIBLE in terms of the ambiance!!! Only 6 tables are inside now - with a few seats at the bar. The majority of the seating is now on the outside patio - which sits nearly on the busy El Camino Real (loud and noisy- not to mention the smell of car exhaust to mix with the food). The worst part of the experience was that it happened to be cold and breezy. They only had 4… literally only 4 heaters for a very large space. We were freezing… eating while bundled up. Our food came out hot, but quickly went cold due to the outside temperature. We (a party of 5) begged for one of the heaters when one party of 2 finally left. Then, when they brought it over it was out of gas. Our waiter didn’t know how to address that- so he finally called over a colleague who didn’t believe me that it was out of gas. He restarted it 3 times before finally agreeing it needed a new tank. By the time he finally got the new tank we were nearly done with dinner. Essentially, they had 3 heaters for the entire patio.
Mind you- this all happened on a summer night. Clearly, come the cold weather and rain in the coming months is not something the management cares about since they designed a remodeled version of their restaurant to have only 6 tables. Clearly, the management- despite having over 50 years of restaurant experience don’t understand how to create an enjoyable outdoor eating experience. Clearly, the management decided to prioritize allocating most of their space to the Memory Care unit that has moved into the remodeled building versus creating a restaurant experience that will be part of family memories for years to come.
The should just call it Georgia’s Take Out since that will be the only option for the majority of their guests for a good portion of the year.
While I’m totally disappointed in the ambiance they created, at least the food is as consistent and good as it has always been over the years.
If you’re close enough, I’d suggest taking your business to their Milpitas location instead. I, for one, do not ever see myself coming back to...
Read moreMy wife and I are really happy that Giorgio's is now open in Mountain View. I started going to Frankie, Johnnie & Luigi Too, when my parents took us once in a great while when I was 9 years old. I won't say how long ago that was, but I remember the original restaurant before they expanded to next door and added the dining area in the back. Over the years, besides the pasta, pizza, I used to enjoy the meatball grinders. Also, when I played Little League at McKelvey baseball park in Mountain View, next door was where adults played softball and I remember that one of the teams was Frankie, Johnnie and Luigi Too. It's not as big as Frankie's used to be, I think there were 6 tables inside and 7 stools at the bar plus there's also outside seating available. We went for dinner last Saturday and the food was very, very tasty! You get sourdough rolls with garlic butter. We had Chicken Parmigiana and Spaghetti Pomodori with shrimp both with generous portions. Plus, we had a very good bottle of Chianti Classico Reserva wine. For dessert we ate the chocolate Gelato and we ordered the Tiramisu to go. Our server George was excellent, he's very nice, attentive, and knows what he's doing. We knew him from a previous place. We also want to give a shot out to Marian, who we talked to for awhile, and she was very nice as well. We'll be back!! We recently ate at Georgios again, and George waited on us again and we really like him. We sat inside and had the house salad, homemade minestrone soup, and for our main courses the New York Steak with mashed potatoes, vegetables and Spaghetti with marinara sauce and mushrooms. Everything was really good! The amount of Spaghetti you get is really big and I had to take some home. For dessert, we had chocolate Gelato. Now, they have their liquor license, so you can have a cocktail. Went for dinner again, and of course the one and only George was our server! We had a bottle of wine, LA Bruschetta to start. Our main courses were Cappellini Pomodori with Shrimp and a D's Big Bacon Cheese Burger. We had the bacon on the side this time. Both were really, really good! The portions are large and the burger is big! We ordered the Strawberry...
Read moreWe usually order delivery and we have tried many of their dishes. Recently we had Chicken Marsala but sadly I have to ding it at a 3 because the chicken wasn't medalines of chicken and the taste wasn't so good and stringy chicken is cheap and not so tasty. BUT we have had many other dishes and each of these are great- Prawn w/ rice, the Prawn/Shrimp with fettuccine and a creamy sauce so good. Lasagna and Chicken Parmigiano both delicious. Around the soft opening I just didn't like the garlic bread BUT THAT HAS CHANGED. I tried the garlic bread with mozzarella cheese and it was very tasty. I don't know the name of 1 of their signature dishes offhand but easy to find- it's sausage made by the Giorgio families that own it. The dish is Penna pasta with their Italian sausage and the sausage makes the dish and nothing burned my mouth and it has a creamy tomato sauce and it's 1 of our go to's. That's pretty cool that out of many dishes only the one wasn't great. I ate at the old Giorgios called Franki, Johnny and Luigis, I think that's right and I don't have any additional devices to look it up so bare with me as I share how special the owner families are. My late son took me here in 2012 I think and it was for Mothers Day. The food, service, atmosphere was awesome. That was my last Mothers day meal with my son and we enjoyed everything so much. I am VERY HAPPY that same owners have reopened and this restaurant was also my husband's grandmother's favorite restaurant and she is no longer with us. Imagine how happy we are to be able to enjoy the memories and some of the BEST ITALIAN FOOD AROUND. GIVE IT A TRY AND SURLY YOUR FAMILIES CAN BUILD SPECIAL MEMORIES AS WELL AND FILL YOUR TUMMY'S...
