The restaurant is hard to find; it blends in with all of the other restaurants. The sign is in the left corner of the line up of restaurants. Once you walk in to the restaurant, you are guided along a long corridor. The passageway opens up to the seating area and the bar. I reserved a table for 11 people. We were seated near the back corner and were told our waitress will be with us shortly. My friends came one by one and soon the table was full.
I requested Vivian as our waitress. She came to greet us and fill our glasses with water. We looked over the menu and she answered any questions we had. As we were still deciding, she offered us some edamame (on the house) to nibble on. The group was finally ready to order and she was ready to hear our demands. She took our orders one by one and took our menus away when we finished. To my friend's surprise, a waiter had recognized her. The waiter came over and offered my friend, Vee, a free drink.
We waited about 15 minutes for our food to come out. Vivian came over with our dishes and served it to us personally. Everyone was satisfied by the way the food looked and tasted. We all took pictures of our main course meals because they looked so aesthetic. My boyfriend and I ordered the Wagyu Beef (Vivian recommended this), Snowbird Roll, Brooklyn Roll, and Lollipop Roll. After we finished eating, our waitress insisted we try their desserts. She explained each dessert in full detail, and offered us a free dessert. Of course, this is because Vivian is my best friend, but we were grateful that she gave us a free dessert anyways :) To the rest of the group, Vivian offered them a dessert at a discount price. Our group tried every dessert. I ordered the Key Lime Cake; it was mouth-watering.
It was time to pay up. Our check was about $50. We had a Groupon, so it took $25 off of our check. Even though it was $50, we got a lot of free things as well because of my connections. Our waitress gave us free edamame and desserts. So, the only con about Soy's Sushi Bar and Grill is the price, but the prices are justifiable by how aesthetic they look and the quality of the food.
Overall, everything was great. The interior was beautiful. The inside of the restaurant had a modern look to it. The food was incredible. The meals and desserts looked very aesthetic and tasted just as great as they looked. The service was amazing. Vivian came over and checked on us at least every 10 minutes. She always made sure everything was okay and did her best to accommodate the requests we had. We had a big group, but she managed well.
The only tip I have is to open a window or a door. The Wagyu Beef creates lots of smoke while cooking the meat on the hot stone and it gathers within the restaurant with no outlet. You could see the smoke collect within the air, especially if you looked up at the ceiling. Breathing it in while enjoying our dinner was a bit on the downside, but it could have easily been fixed by opening a window or a door. Everything else was great! I hope next time I come to dine in, the air will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe used to go to this restaurant over and over. The food is admittedly very good and the service in the restaurant is also very good.
There are two reasons for the 1 star (and would give no stars if it were possible) review.
Last week, we tried to go here at about 9PM. Their hours say open till 10PM - they were closed. No indication on their website, nor was there any indication on the door. This has apparently been corrected this week - but it totally ruined the evening. Even so - I would be willing to let it go since obviously there is a labor shortage related to COVID.
Tonight (just now) - we were told there is now a 4% surcharge on using a credit card. This is literally the first time I have ever seen this. I have traveled all over the US, and also to Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Greece (in recent years anyways) and have never had this happen. Either a restaurant accepts cards (and the surcharge from the credit card company) - or they don't accept cards. The owners of this restaurant are being cheap - and blaming their Point of Sale system doesn't cut it for me.
The only time I have ever been asked to pay extra to use a card is for excessively low transaction amounts - not a $60.00 take out order. I will never ever eat at this place again as this is frankly offensive. What's next, a surcharge for clean plates, or bags? This is literally part of the cost of doing business. You don't like it - then just don't accept cards anymore. That is the behavior you apparently want (people not using cards) - so I don't know what the difference is.
As far as I am concerned - business apparently doesn't want to survive. Add to this that they didn't even tell us BEFORE we paid that there would be a 15 minute wait (long enough for me to get cash - or I don't know to tell them screw it - we don't want your food). Sad - but I am sure when they go out of business something better will...
Ā Ā Ā Read more!!!GLUTEN FREE BEWARE!!! They have items labeled "gluten free" on the menu but I found out the hard way it is not accurate. I came in for a paint night (ridiculously fun btw) and ordered a rainbow roll because it was labeled gluten free, a lot of sushi restaurants offer the rainbow roll as a gluten free option so that seemed normal. When I received the roll I thought the crab looked a little too perfect so I asked the server to confirm that it was real crab and not imitation crab which is known to not be gluten free. He seemed to not understand what I was asking or to know the difference between real and imitation (just to clarify there was no language barrier at this restaurant). I asked him to go ask the chef to confirm that the roll was indeed gluten free, he seemed fluttered. The next time he came back was to deliver the check. Out of frustration, and hunger, I ate the roll putting my faith in the menu label. Our server changed when we started painting and that server told me that they had NO real crab in the whole restaurant, only imitation, and that the menu was outdated. I was mortified. I told the manager that the menu needed to be updated and that it was very dangerous for them to be labeling items as gluten free when in fact they are not, and worse that some of the staff did not know this and could not warn people. He offered NO APOLOGY for this gross misrepresentation as well as no way to make it right. Simply a "I hope you are okay". Um what? I was sick for DAYS. Days. Absolutely horrendous quality control and management at this restaurant, and severe lack of customer service. Also, if I want cheap sushi I will go to a 1/2 off rolls type of joint, not pay full price like at Soy. The martini however was fantastic so kudos to...
