So this place is a pretty big ripoff. Like most bars, they try their hardest to get the patrons drunk and spending lots of money, but the main issue stems from how deceptive and incompetent the staff are. The main bouncer has no idea anything about the bar and will tell you basically anything so long as you pay the 10 dollar cover charge. Now the cover charge is free with local id, but anyone else, pay up. Seating isnt scarce, but the ability to sit is. They will have a lot of reservations, but despite that fact, they will sell you seating anyway, with a nifty little disclaimer that tells you that seating isn't guaranteed with a cover charge fee unless you have a reservation, a sign that isn't visible until you get past the bouncer, by the way. Speaking of reservations, good luck getting one. I know reservations exist, due to the fact that we were told they were mostly reserved when we went to pay, but we tried the phone line multiple times a day for two days straight and it just went straight to voicemail. The cover charge is cash only, by the way. In fact, most things in here are cash only, or at least thats how it felt. The point of this is to funnel everyone into one small ATM by the front door that has an exhorbitant service charge. Debit cards can be used for drinks, but it is a 20 dollar minimum. Drinks are expensive for how incompetent their bartenders are. Their waitstaff aren't told anything, and seem to be entirely neutered by the manager. That reminds me. When we were told that there was seating and decided to pay the cover charge, we went in and saw that they were completely booked on the bottom floor. Now heres the thing. They have a top floor that was completely empty, but at the time, it was chained up. We asked a nearby staff member if we could go up there, but they said it wasn't opened yet. We asked when it would be open, and they said they "might" open it "soon". Vague words if i've ever heard them, but okay, we ball. We wait around for 30 more minutes, the show starts, and we ask again when they might open the top floor so we could sit down. This time, we were told that the manager still had to decide whether or not to open it. We asked why they werent, and were simply told that the manager didnt want to open the top floor. At this point, more than our party was standing around completely without seating. Around 15 people, standing around without chairs, all because the manager that day decided they didnt want to open it for whatever reason they had in their head. Eventually, we bugged them enough for them to open the top floor. The final thing i would mention is that yes, songs requests do cost money. Now, they don't tell you this before you come in, yet again. Not on their signs outside, not on their website, their homepage, their faq, their facebook, nothing. Now, this is an issue, but the main thing is that they will name and shame you if you put in a song request without paying. That, by all accounts, is very rude. Also, they say that you can use venmo to request songs, but they rarely check it, if ever. I think they used two venmo songs the entire time. Yet again, they are just trying to get you to pay with cash, i imagine for tax reasons. Also, in the ladies bathroom, they had a person who covered up the soap and towel dispensers, and would force you to have them pump for you. Of course. They would then be pretty insistent about being tipped afterwards. Scummy behavior, through and through. They didn't do this before the show started, by the way. You could use the dispensers freely. They also tried to sell you cigs in the bathrooms, which is funny, because they have a no smoking rule. I dont think you could pay me to come again.
Tl;dr: they are trying everything in their ability to rob you blind of all your money at every possible turn. I imagine to have a decent time there, you have to spend...
Read moreI would like to speak to you about some serious abuse that my brother and I received at Crocodile Rock last night, July 11th. We were singing along with the songs and a bouncer singled my brother out to eject him as he was standing up and singing (the pianomen had asked us to stand and sing several times!!) He went to the door with one of the bouncers and I accompanied him. He was asked to leave. I said that we would, I wanted to settle my tab. My brother asked what he did and a bouncer grabbed him anbd started to punch him. Two ther bouncers were there and they all grabbed my brother, Steve. I was in the mix trying to break up the fight and take my brother out peacefully but these bouncers were beating him. The Boardwalk security guards came and someone covered us in very strong pepper spray. I was thrown to the ground. Several people came to our aid demanding to know what Steve did wrong. Two other men tried to protect Steve as well and were doused in pepper spray. My brother and one of the other men were handcuffed and he was left in a corner with pepper spray dripping all over him. He is asthmatic and was left suffering. There was a huge crowd around us as everyone who saw what happened left the club mystified- we waited for police and the manager came out and lied about the entire situation to be sure that my brother was arrested. I have the phone number of some strangers who were outraged enough by our treatment to want to testify on our behalf.
Steve was taken to jail and I bailed hinm out this morning. Both he and I still are in pain from the pepper spray. More than anything, I would like you to report on this blatent abuse and lying. I thought the point of the piano bar was to sing along?? The public needs to...
Read moreVisited in August 2020 (last week) and I wanted to like it as Piano Bars are my favorite. The bartenders were all very pleasant and fun. The layout is great, the piano players are great, but I was turned off by a few things that I noticed.
The stage right bar stools don't have a great view of the performers if you are in the ones closest to the bar. We waited 20 minutes for a server to come over before I decided to go up to the bar (this was at 7PM when the bar opened). The cover charge, $20 minimum on cards, and 20% gratuity added to cards left at the bar all made me feel like I was in college again. I also noticed that one of the pianist sped up the tempo and botched a song that I would guess is a pretty common request given the fact we were in South Carolina. He seemed to not enjoy playing "Chicken Fried" by Zac Brown Band, so I would avoid requesting this song.
There is a sign behind the performers that says, "due to Covid-19 we will not be playing Sweet Caroline." At the time, I was upset because I thought this was a joke. I see now that many piano bars do not play this song as it leads to people touching each other and screaming along which could lead to the spread of Covid-19. Personally, I think this could be said for a ton of songs at a piano bar, but I can appreciate that they are doing their part to take precautions.
Finally, there is something interesting that they do when they switch pianists. They will have the two new pianist join the two that were playing for a couple songs where they use drums and a guitar or bass. I could see how this would be neat, but the instruments were a little loud for the space.
If I am ever in Myrtle Beach again I would give this place another try, but I did not get the best...
