The food was incredibly delicious. However, there are PLENTY of restaurants within walking distance of this one with incredible food that will also include premium service for the money you spend. We put our name on a wait list and were told we'd receive a text when a table was available. We waited for 45 minutes with no text. We checked back once during that time and were told we were still awaiting a table. While standing in the rain, we watched a party of 4 walk up, admit to no reservation and no wait list and be seated immediately. AFTER we inquired, we were immediately seated. No text, no apology, no explanation. Once seated, we ordered and requested an additional bowl and spoon - as we ordered 2 entrees between the 3 of us. We wanted to finish the entirety of our lunch and not carry around leftovers for the remainder of the day while shopping and exploring in town. Once food was delivered, I asked for the additional bowl & spoon, again. Once the food was set down, there was no return from waitstaff, and no additional bowl or spoon. Oddly enough, we got significant attention from staff once I pulled a snack from my bag to quell my hunger - I was so hungry at this point, and hadn't been brought anything to eat with. I am well aware you shouldn't eat outside food when patronizing a restaurant - and fully expected to be chastised like a child (no disappointment there)! I would have loved nothing more than to eat the DELICIOUS chowder that was brought - however without the additional bowl and spoon (requested more than once) I was unable. During my verbal chastising, the staff (not our waiter) did not offer sufficient reason for the poor service, did not acknowledge the multiple requests, but offered (so graciously) to bring me a bowl and spoon so that I may eat the food we ordered, instead of the snack from my purse. Her volume was not discreet and was intended to embarass me - great in theory, failed in execution. The experience was awful and unfortunate. I spent 10+ years in the service industry, I love being on the customer end, and I love rewarding excellent service. I understand a mishap or two during an experience. There were so many chances to turn this around, and I'm disappointed that it never happened. I will not recommend this establishment to friends and family - I would never want them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been coming to Nantucket every summer for ten years now, and I can easily say that this was the absolute worst dining experience we have ever had. Not the food--that was actually very good. We had an 8:15 pm reservation for eight people, and the night started off on a great note. The restaurant was accommodating and the host was able to seat all eight of us together, right next to heating lamps, despite our not having been able to reserve for that large a party via Resy. We were all very hungry, so the waitress was kind enough to take our orders as soon as we were seated. But then everything went downhill. Four of our entrees came out within minutes, before any of our appetizers came out. We let them know, but instead of taking those entrees away and bringing them back out after the appetizers, they simply left them on the table and then brought out all of the appetizers later. So, four of us were in the position of starting the entrees, and then shortly thereafter, having the appetizers. But it gets much much worse. After those plates were cleared, we waited for AN HOUR for the remaining four entrees. The eight of us--four of whom had finished their meals and could have headed home--sat there and waited, with nothing in front of us except cold popovers (one of which came with a live ROACH!), for an hour so that half of our party could finish our dinner. The kitchen closes at 9:30 and we joked that the final insult would be that the waitress would come over and apologize at 9:45, saying that the four entrees would not be coming because the kitchen had already closed for the night. No management ever came over to apologize or even acknowledge what was going on. We ended up spending $500 for this experience. Luckily we are here for over a month, so this will not mar the summer, but we had invited my in-laws for just a few days. I am beyond disappointed that we not only wasted a meal here, but that it was such a terrible experience for them. With so many truly wonderful, amazing places to eat on Nantucket, this is one that we will never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe recently had dinner at Nantucket Tap Room, and overall, it was a mixed experience. The restaurant itself has a cozy, charming atmosphere and the service was polite, though not especially attentive. We came in hoping for a solid meal, and while some things stood out in a good way, others really missed the mark. The wings were probably the best part of the meal. They had a great flavor and were served hot and fresh. That said, they were a little too crispy for my taste and slightly burnt around the edgesānot enough to ruin them, but enough to notice. They couldāve been pulled from the fryer just a little sooner. Still, they were definitely enjoyable. For the main course, I had the swordfish. It was okayānot bad, but not particularly memorable either. It was cooked through and plated nicely, but lacked the kind of seasoning or bold flavor youād expect at a place like this. It felt like it needed just one more element to bring it to life. Unfortunately, dessert was where the meal really fell flat. We tried a couple different options and none of them were great. The texture and flavors were off and felt like an afterthought rather than something crafted with care. For a place that clearly puts effort into its mains and apps, the dessert felt like a letdown. Overall, Nantucket Tap Room has potential and seems to do certain dishes well (especially the wings, with just a little tweaking), but thereās definitely room for improvement, especially in the dessert department. I wouldnāt go out of my way to eat here again, but I wouldnāt completely write it off either. Maybe with a few updates, it could be a more consistent...
