Quick Summary: Over priced, under whelmed, incorrect bill that seemed super suspicious. Will never go back. Google- this is NOT a $$ restaurant- more like $$$$
Long story: When myself, my husband, and two kiddos stepped into the restaurant, it was like stepping back in time. The squishy carpet below our feet, the tilt of the restaurant towards the canal, and the decor that has never been updated since the 80s should have probably sent us running… but hey- they had stone crab that they could serve us— most other places were already sold out (a warning sign in and of itself). We ordered large stone crabs & grilled grouper for the adults- Mahi bites and steamed shrimp for the kiddos. the ordering experience was strange, as the server kept asking us one word questions…. Such as when my husband ordered a Cesar salad as the side, the server just responded “anchovies.” And my husband, confused becuase Cesar dressing has anchovies in it, said yes…. What the server was asking was if he’d like 3 anchovy filets draped on top of his salad. The only options for dressing I was given for the side salad were ranch, blue cheese, or french…. I surmise that they had some level of vinaigrette??? However the complete lackadaisical attitude of the server was enough to not push the envelope. My husband tried to order French fries as his potato choice, but the server had already decided that he was getting a baked potato… I will say that the food was fine- the salads were good, the baked potato was tasty and the hush puppies were also good and it’s hard to mess up stone crabs!!’ The “grilled” grouper was more like pan seared…. But hey- they had the stone crab we were searching for, right?
Where things really fell off the tracks was when it was time to pay the tab. The completely aloof, grumpy, disengaged server we had experienced for the entirety of our meal was suddenly a glittery, friendly, chatterbox when she dropped off the check- “where are you from? How long will you be here? Your kiddos are adorable….” a tactic for us to not look closely at the bill. We had ordered 2 draft bud lights ($10), one glass of Riesling (can I roll my eyes any harder at the price of $15 per glass of wine???), and 1 bottle of Mich ultra ($5)… what we were charged for was 1 bud light, TWO glasses of wine ($30 total!!!), and 1 bottle of Mich ultra. I Could understand a mistake- it wasn’t that the mistake was made, but how it was handled. After the server stopped chatting our ear off, I reviewed the bill ($177 for four people… Google, that’s not a two dollar sign meal, friend!) And noticed the $10 mistake. When we brought it to the servers attention, she tried to convince me that I had had two glasses of wine. My husband said, no no- we were charged for an extra $15 glass of wine and no second bud light. The server left in a huff (where did that chatterbox go???). She brought back the bill however didn’t provide itemization, just the total charge… then proceeded to tell us “yeah you really have to look at those bills, I have so many patrons who don’t look and just hand me their card. Those computers! Sometimes it’s easy to make a mistake”
I finish this review with this- as a pharmacist, the prescriptions that I have identified as fishy / counterfeit over the years are the ones with too much information…. This server in the moment of the mistake never apologized, only offered way too much information… was it a mistake? Was it a way to get a few extra bucks added onto a tip? I won’t ever know because I will never go back. But I implore that you triple check your bill for accuracy, becuase something weird is going on at this place- instead of providing excellent service to earn the tip, they are making “mistakes” to falsely elevate bills and prey on unsuspecting...
Read moreMy wife and I were staying at the Naples Bay Resort just a block away and decided to try Kelly's Fish House for dinner since it was nearby and their website made it sound like the restaurant was a long time local favorite. I ordered the seafood platter and my wife ordered fish tacos. The seafood platter must have been a frozen platter and was obviously not fresh. The piece of "supposed fresh local Florida lobster tail " was about the size of a medium crayfish tail. The entire platter was probably about 7 ounces max and had no taste. It was without a doubt the worst seafood dinner I have ever had. My wife's fish tacos were just as bad as my seafood platter. The "supposed fresh local grouper" were breaded small pieces of fried fish - definitely not fresh. We also had a dozen appalachacola fresh oysters which were good. It's one thing to realize you made a big mistake selecting a restaurant, but what makes it even worse is when the food is way overpriced for the quality of food served. The oysters were $18, the fish tacos were $17, the seafood platter was $30, two glasses of house Cabernet were $20. With tax, our bill was $93 not including tip. I would recommend staying as far away from this place...
Read moreIt was my first time there and hopefully this review would be more of a constructive feedback instead of a criticism. I live in West Palm and quite often me and my family dine at seafood restaurant quite a lot and I was disappointed with Kelly's fish house. the service was great and I love the decor/ location but for a seafood restaurant in Florida the food wasn't that great especially looking at the price we had 2x seafood platter honestly it look like MIAMI SUB FISH N CHIP PLATTER and the red grouper (grilled) definitely wasn't it for me. Think about it the price of your red grouper is pretty much what I would paid for a 1/2 lbs seafood boil at (hook and reel) in fort Lauderdale but i get it The location of the restaurant explain the price but it will be a much better experience if my if the food was tasteful and a much better portion as well. Maybe it was the choice of the food we made that didn't work for us. Perhaps! Maybe if decide to go again we stay in the non seafood section or we will stick with the boiled seafood...
