Horrible service and food is bland af.
Edited for details: Friends and I walked in on a whim to eat here before a show, and seated ourselves in the back area; we had no idea that you should place your order up front. We sat there for 10 or so minutes while we watched the only english-speaking person (aside from the cashier) chat with a friend behind the bar and ignore us; we were the only customers in there. The guy never once greeted us or even look our way. Therefore, one friend went up front to talk to the cashier (really nice, by the way), who explained how their ordering system works. (Notwithstanding there a sign AND a button on the table that said "push" if you wanted to order tacos. I pushed it many times...nothing.)
Because I have digestive issues, I was careful to order items that I felt would not mess me up. The cashier had to walk to the back to get the guy behind the bar that was running his mouth to a non-customer ("Rude-y") to translate my order to the cooks who couldn't speak a syllable of English. My order still came out wrong. When I asked Rude-y about my substitutions, and salsa for the quesadillas I ordered, he argued with me about why I should just accept what I ordered. We went back and forth for so long, he never addressed the salsa. So, I went back to the table to eat the already luke warm and bland food I ordered before it got ice cold once I FINALLY got the incorrect part of my order corrected.
Another friend ordered jalepenos, but never got them. So, I walked back up front, AGAIN, to ask for salsa and jalepenos for my friend. Rude-y proceeded to tell me they don't give salsa for free (never told me a cost) and jalepenos would cost $1.50 (they are $1 on the menu). I tried to explain the jalepenos were ordered but not received. That led to another back and forth exchange with Rude-y. I was tired of arguing, so I finally asked Rude-y how much was the salsa. He said free with a survey - good or bad. I then summarized everything Rude-y told me back to him in regards to how I can get salsa for my quesadillas, because I knew only 1 star would be given. He confirmed my summary was correct, and I went back to my table to type the review made prior to this edit. Rude-y stomped off man like an infant, mumbling something negative, and disappearing after I showed him my review. About 5 min later, he told one of the cooks to plate up some chips and salsa. He never handed the order to me.
This entire ordeal took almost an hour, and my friend STILL didn't get her jalepenos. I did receive the free chips and salsa, which was good.
I will never be returning to this place. I spent $21 for a beer and quesadilla, and an hour of my life, just to have my nerves shredded like the chicken they...
Read moreAlright, this is one of those places that, if given the option to give 6 stars, I would. Like, some sort of exemplary performance point for overall goodness. I didn't even dine in; I was picking up. I'm just surprised I'd never been here before.
I was looking for something to eat around 9 pm on a Wednesday, and I wanted something new. Just poking around on the map, I saw this place and thought, yeah, Mexican sounds good - let's see what they got... And I was very pleasantly surprised when I noticed the large vegan selection, which was conveniently all in one place on the menu.
Given, I was ravenous, about to eat my dinner past 9 pm... I decided on a pineapple Agua Fresca, an Avocado Tempura Taco, and a Chicken & Steak Vegan Quesadilla. (Note: I didn't realize initially that they have their own website, where you won't have to pay any service fees if you're picking it up yourself. The cashier was kind enough to inform me). The place was easy to find (lots of signs), and the inside looked very clean, while minimally yet tastefully decorated. I was a little early, but I still only had to wait a couple of minutes. The cashier was very nice and warm. After receiving my food, I booked it home (lawfully... of course).
I started with the Avocado Tempura Taco; I never know how I'm going to feel about large chunks of avocado, but this one was great. The little vegetable chunks on top were perfect. As I chewed my first bite, I started eyeing the lighter sauce.. It was creamy but slightly spicy, VERY yummy. The red sauce surprised me; I thought it would be very spicy, but it was a mild, tangy, peppery flavor that went perfectly with everything. Seriously, every bite that I forgot to put that sauce on, was still delicious, but missing just that little something. Anyway, as I made my way to the quesadilla... I was thinking, I have actually never had a restaurant-prepared vegan quesadilla before. And I was really blown away. That thing was gone so fast. The ratio of vegan meats to cheese was on-point, the edges were crispy but the middle was soft, and the vegetables/sauces complemented the main elements wonderfully. If I had to guess, I would say the vegan chicken is Daring brand, which, in my experience, always turns out pretty dang good. I also believe the menu specifies the vegan steak as Beyond brand. All in all, I am happily satisfied, and so is my belly.
I'm sure I could go on and on about how great this place was, but I'll just leave it at this: the Agua Fresca was...
Read moreWhere do I start so today was my second time buying Calle taco! The first time I went was a ok experience nothing great just ok I had got the nachos wasn’t impressed. So second time around decided to get the burrito on the lunch special!I walk in sit at bar to place order which I called 5x to place it before getting there no answer! So it’s not busy at all the burrito only comes with black beans rice and asada easy fix! Why 3 people come in wayy after me “Non Black” get their food before me! Then when I ask why is that only explanation was one of the persons been sitting there since they opended today which is a lie! He was not sitting there he came in then sat down got serviced right away. I even asked them did they order online she stated no so again why am I the last to get my food! The environment is mostly caucasians and hispanics. The servers, bartender, cooks is hispanic! From what I observed if you’re non black you definitely get friendlier service get your food fast etc! This guy that was way after me had got some huge huge pile high nachos and yet she claims mine took longer to fix. Just seems to me a very discriminatory place and if you want to experience that then definitely eat there! If you don’t look else where! It’s sad because the burrito was actually delicious but just the whole experience was a turn off!So I knew I couldn’t be the only one looking at these reviews Nikki Kay is right when she stated she dont think they cater to black people thats exactly right! My first time coming they didnt have the same servers they have now and I didnt ask for a manager because they took up most of my lunch break taking forever to bring my food furthermore because of that i had to walk back to work in the rain! Also she is correct the prices are definitely different online it says $10 for lunch special burrito but why am I paying $14 so yea never again! Also why is it the owner replied to everyone else review but not hers 🤔 and I dont see the owner replying back to people of color at all really going through...
