Sadly quite disappointed in this place. I was expecting to be wowed. I do not understand the GREAT SCORE this place has. I spent fifty bucks on just myself and left half that amount right on the table. Im visiting from Texas and this place came highly recommended from 2 people from other states that knew i was coming. I have had much better places in Texas where the food taste actually matched the score. Maybe i ordered the wrong stuff or I'm just not their target audience. Problem number one. I didn't do my research. I came here ready to dig into some pancakes. They don't have em. Lol so maybe that ruined my taste buds from there. I ordered the brown sugar lemonade. Not a fan. Switched that to the fruit tea. Still not a fan. The shrimp & grits were just ok to me. Not very flavorful. The plain biscuit i added to it was a let a down. I was expecting to be wowed since that seems to be the base of this establishment and they're willing to ship them to people. I don't know but the biscuit i got didn't seem fresh. Was barely warm and not soft. The bonuts were a let down too. Not soft like i would expect. I really liked the mascarpone so i scooped it off onto my "the lilly" this was by far my favorite item on the table. I was able to determine the couple next to me are regulars. I asked them why they like this place so much because I didn't get the hype. Well they moved here from Chicago and they say it's very hard to find places in Nashville that have good pancakes and that it seems to be a biscuit or waffle town. They said they couldn't really speak to why the score is so high as they're simple eaters. Not lookng for anything fancy. They typically order the eggs and the cronic bacon the plain cheese grits the granola or oatmeal. They said the bacon is the best. I also reached out to my friend that recommended i come here and they also said they kept their order simple as well. The bacon a biscuit and eggs. Well all that is boring to me lol If I ever come back to Nashville I probably would return just to try something totally different and hope to get lucky the 2nd time. Now one thing's for certain the service is fantastic they get your order taken, you get seated and boom there's your food. My food came out so fast I barely had time to get comfortable in my chair. Lol my stuff started coming from the kitchen maybe 5 min later....8 min top if i had to push it. Let's just say it was quick enough to where I was surprised the waiter was headed towards me already. Overall i would recommend because everyone's tastes buds are different. Guess mine just didn't fancy this place but yours might. I really wanted to...
Read moreGo early, avoid the line. Good food. Could use a little bit more improvements on serving and upkeep.
We went on Christmas eve Friday early in the morning around 8am. We were in and out of the restaurant in 45 minutes.
You order and pay (tip optional) at the ordering counter when just entering the restaurant, then the order taker will lead you to your table and give you a number sign and your food will be brought to you by your server. Our food came about 5 minutes after we sat down which we considered pretty quick!
Overall, the food was great! Unique type of biscuit, almost like a buttery pastry bread with a fairly crunchy/crispy/firm top and bottom. The chicken we had with the biscuit tasted great too! Our only complaint was the food was not hot enough, it was just lukewarm and then it got cold quickly as it wasn’t on a hot plate. This was our major disappointment.
They have two water stations where you can pour yourselves either sparkling or regular water. And if you need to-go boxes, they were left on top of the water machines.
Our server was not very attentive as we had to wait a long time and finally had to wave at her so we could get our coffee refills. She wasn’t making an effort on visiting her tables to ensure all her guests had everything they needed throughout their meal.
For the parking at Gulch (at the garage across from the restaurant), 1st hour parking is free. Up to 2 hours for $6, each additional hour after that is $2. They have some pretty advanced technology as you scan a posted QR code and enter your car and payment info to initiate the parking charge. Once you are ready to exit, you just drive out of the garage as they have a license plate reader installed by the exit lane so it automatically “checks you out“ and charges the payment. It worked pretty accurately as we monitored our e-parking ticket going from still in parked mode to “free of charge” within a few seconds after we drove out of the exit lane.
We felt lucky as we visited early in the morning so the wait line was only a few minutes to order. By the time we left around 9am the line was already ~8-10 parties long. I suggest visiting early to avoid the wait line. Overall, I would recommend this place if the wait line is not too bad! ( just remember to ask for your...
Read more“The Gulch” is a neighborhood known as a place that the locals are drawn to reside in, and for good reason. During just one visit we couldn’t help eyeballing various buildings and envisioning living in one of them. While there are many reasons we felt immediately connected to this neighborhood, one of them had to be “Biscuit Love.”
I don’t claim to be a “bread guy”, but the biscuits here are unbelievable. So light, buttery, and flavorful (without that post meal greasy “jet lag in your gut” feeling).
Ironically, our breakfast actually began with dessert. Their “bonuts” (biscuit and donut combo) could easily have been enjoyed after dinner. (Shout out to our friend @donuthunting. We’d be interested in your thoughts if you ever visit here.)
We sampled varying versions of the “Southern Benny”, “S.E.C.”, and “East Nasty” and although they were all tremendous we couldn’t help but experience some FOMO while glancing at each other’s plates.
While they do offer dishes that don’t include biscuits or gravy, why would you engage in self injurious behavior like that??? If while ordering they offer you those options just say “yes” (even if you’re just getting coffee). They are both seriously that good.
You should plan on a wait to get in (it took us almost an hour and we arrived at the non-peak time of 11:00 a.m.). If I lived in The Gulch I’d try and find a way to eat here every week. If you’ve visited Nash and missed this spot y’all oughta come back just for that reason alone, ‘ya hear!
And that’s…Henry’s...
