The first time I visited this establishment was when I traveled to Nashville for work in September 2022. I had such a great experience the first time that it made me want to revisit, and boy, I was wrong to go. On this occasion, I sat at the bar. The first red flag I noticed was when I went to the restroom to wash my hands before eating my chips and dip. Upon exiting the bathroom, this caucasian worker was peeking around the corner as if he were monitoring my movements. I would've brushed this off, but it was his reaction upon my exit that made me question his motives. As soon as I walked past to return to my seat, he removed himself from his perching spot. (this is for that worker directly) You have no business watching me when all I was doing was washing my hands. Like I said, I've been here before, so I knew what I wanted right away (The incident with the restroom occurred after I ordered). The time it took to receive my food wasn't bad, so I'll give them that, but the next part disturbed me. It was not even five minutes after receiving my food that the bartender/waitress asked me to close out my tab. Immediately, my senses went on high alert because this was not asked of all the other guests sitting at the bar. She tried to reassure me that I could take as much time as I wanted, but the request rubbed me the wrong way. She even tried to say that she had to “go upstairs,” and this was the reasoning as to why I needed to close my tab. Instantly, I lost my appetite, but here I was, minding my business and living life, and I couldn't even enjoy my food because I was racially profiled. I'm not going to put this all on the waitress because this question came up after she talked with the male who was watching me upon exiting the restroom. I realized quickly that this request had come from over her head. I complied with her, but that still didn't change how it made me feel. When I tell you, she didn't even give me my receipt so I could review my charges before she requested that I pay. Paying before eating only occurs when you're ordering takeout, not while you're (in my case) trying to dine in an establishment. It's a wild notion. The crazy thing about all of this was that the waitress didn't even go upstairs afterward! I tried to continue to enjoy myself, but the disgust I felt as I watched the waitress who told me I needed to close out because she was going upstairs was still lingering at the bar. This let me know that the request wasn't based on procedure but on personal preference. I don't want y'all trying to respond to me saying, “We apologize for your experience.” y'all can keep that; I want all those present to stand on their actions cause I'm going to stand on mine. (I know I don't have to say this, but I am) If a person of color - a single woman of color - can walk into your establishment and not receive excellent customer service, that's a problem, and I hope that another person will read this to prevent any more incidents. I had just finished a five-hour flight and was dressed in a hoodie and colorful sweatpants. If I can not come as I am, THAT IS A PROBLEM. You will never have to worry about my business again. Y'all were so worried about your measly 30 dollars (the cost of my order) that you forgot I was a person, an educated and insightful person. It's cool, though; my degrees and I will take our patronage elsewhere. Never judge a book by its cover cause you never know who...
Read moreThis is my new favorite spot in the gulch to grab a drink. I just came to see if this place can dethrone bartaco for best margarita in Nashville. I can not say it now, but it was super close. I'll be back here soon to review the food and drinks as well. *Update Came in for a healthy lunch and was decently impressed with the food. I got the guac and chips, which were fresh and topped with onion tomatoes and cilantro. It needed a bit of salt for my partner, but i loved it with the fresh lime juice on top. Their crudite is topped with tajin and spices, which is a nice touch. Also, I got a side of black beans because the measure of a tex mex spot for me are these two things. The black beans are my favorite so far in Nashville. If you love black beans, it's worth the trip, and they are served in cast iron, which is a very cool presentation. The tortilla chips were warm, and they kept them in a warmer behind. The bar. Tried the carne asada quesidilla it was cheesey and even better with a bit of my salad in it. The salads are very generously dressed, so if that's bot your jazz, get it on the side. The atmosphere is dope it feels open and social at the same time. The music is present but not overpowering, and there are 6 tvs at the bar. This would be a great spot to catch the game. I did try their margarita thebsecond time. The first time, I gave the bartender a recipe I liked, and he crushed it, so yeah, the bartenders are good. The second time I ordered their house margarita and it was basically identical to bartaco a little less lime juice so its safe to call these 1a and 1b in Nashville right infront of Nectar(if you count Donelson) or Calacas downtown(if you don't). The menu is simple and not overwhelming, but each dish sounds amazing, so it's hard to choose. I'll be back to try a bunch of different things when I come back. The bar and restaurant are connected in a very aztec type of layout, which is dope. The open air seating of the indoor to outdoor bar is super cool. If you are craving latin cuisine, I highly recommend this sopt on a sunny day. It was also amazing at night, especially during a full moon. It's not great for a first date as the exits are awkward and a bit misleading the first time you go. If you are familar with the layout, then all that changes. A date night here is great, especially at one of the corner tables or at the bar. The lighting and ambiance are chill yet subtly romantic. The lighting breathes an energy that is both infectious and romantic. There's even plenty of room for your pup on the patio area. You have to check out this bar. I highly recommend this place to tex mex and Latin cuisine fiends. You won't be...
Read moreIt's very pretty and aesthetically pleasing, like most restaurants here in Nashville. I do want to warn people about the "pitchers" they advertise for $40+, they are NOT pitchers. They are the size of a Jack Daniels bottle so was quite disappointing and shocked when she said it could occupy 3 people.
The website says "premier Mexican cuisine" but the food itself tasted bland, undercooked hard rice, and honestly tastes like the Amish or Betty Crocker seasoned it.
The 1/2 off tequila flights is a cute idea and enjoyed it for the most part until the bill came. Everyone at my table was confused because our lovely server said it's on order from left to right of how you ordered it.. there were over 100+ tequilas so without any card or anything how are we supposed to remember everything. Also, I did feel like I was purposely charged for a more expensive tequila than what I asked (we were a large group so I'm assuming larger ticket=automatic gratuity.) I won't post the girls name since she was somewhat nice until I confronted her about it and tried to tell me I was pointing at a different tequila (the one i wanted was on the front page vs the one she charged me for was on the back so DOESNT MAKE SENSE/ADD UP.) Where I really felt scammed/disrespected was the more expensive one she charged me for was TACKED ON ANOTHER DOLLAR THAN MENU PRICING. So not only did I get up charged $5 nearly for a different tequila she added an extra dollar to the already mistake!
In conclusion, I don't feel bad about leaving this review because it was supposed to be a great experience, first time customer and it definitely left an impression. I give it 5/10 overall and don't get me wrong it is cute as hell for pictures though, so pop off. Also, another man came up behind me while dealing with management and complained about his table of 6 not having silverware and eating with...
