Founded in 2014 by LSU alums Chef/Co-founder/Mobile, Alabama native Adam Lathan and Co-founder Clay Boulware, The Gumbo Bros started as a small pop-up in NY and has grown to a full service bar & restaurant with the Nashville Gulch restaurant as its second location. The Owners are stated to emphasize cajun/creole cooking methods, family recipes and regional sourcing (regular shipments of gulf shrimp, New Orleans French bread, etc.)
The intetrior is pretty cool and with bar and booth seating providing a blend between a bistro and neighborhood bar. The menu features a variety of well-known cajun and creole dishes such as gumbo, po' boys, shrimp and grits, fried shrimp and fried catfish. And, not so popular dishes such as alligator (which, if done well I really like) and fried okra. Red beans & rice, jambalaya and etouffee are absent from the menu. The po’ boys come dressed with lettuce, tomato, Duke’s mayo, and pickles on New Orleans’ own Leidenheimer Bakery French bread.
I stopped in for an end-of the week lunch. I ordered the catfish po' boy. At $15, IDK I think its a bit pricey for catfish. The catfish itself was well-seasoned and super crispy from the cornmeal batter. I ordered it to-go so the bread was a bit sogged out by the time I got home so the bread did not have the crispness you normally expect in a po' boy. Next trip, I'll get the pickles and tomatoes on the side or just order the basket. I also got an order of 3 beignets ($8) which were humongous and airy, but had the mouthfeel more of a donut. In comparison, just a bit different than the pillowy, melt in your mouth beignets you get from Cafe Du Monde, but still very good. FYI you'll need a big glass of milk or coffee to offset all the sweetness.
I used to visit New Orleans several times a year and I really enjoy cajun and creole food so The Gumbo Bros was okay to me. Really pleasant hostess, bartender and wait staff.

Read moreCame on a Friday night around 8 pm and was able to walk right in and get a table. They had a sign to seat yourself so you're able to pick any open table. As soon as we sat down we were offered water.
Our waitress quickly came over to get us started on drinks and appetizers. We ordered the "Purple Drink" which is a slushy with bourbon and sweet grape flavor with a candy on top. It was sweet and would give it about a 4 out of 5 stars.
I also ordered the savage mule, which has bourbon, ginger beer and mint. It was really good, however if you don't like ginger beer this is not the drink for you. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
For an appetizer we ordered the debris fries which I highly recommend. They come with the waffle fries topped with roast beef, gravy and cheese. Definitely 5 out of 5 stars for this one! The fries were well seasoned and crispy, the roast beef was tender and the gravy was seasoned well. Slightly on the salty side, but with all the flavors combined it was to be expected.
For dinner I got the fried green tomato BLT po boy and potato salad. The sandwich was fresh and piled high with fried green tomatoes. Only thing is they forgot my bacon 😫. I told the waitress and they took off the price of the bacon and my side! The potato salad was typical southern style potato salad with a sprinkle of Cajon seasoning on top.
My husband got Nanny's seafood gumbo which he rated a 4.5 out of 5 stars. We were told it had a little kick to it, but my husband added more spice. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the overall...
Read moreAs I am originally from Louisiana but now live in TN. I always love trying places that offer Cajun foods. Used to have a place called Lost Cajun that we loved but they shut down. We have a place called Cajun Steamers near us in Hendersonville. Tried it once but wasn't impressed. Food there was not impressive. So I recently heard about Gumbo Bros and took the wife for dinner last night. When we arrived we got seated right away. Of course we were the only ones inside. There was only 1 table with people outside so I was a little worried. But as we were eating more people came in. We ordered the crawfish queso she had a beer i had a hurricane. For main course we ordered the shrimp po boy and the roast beef po boy. I will say everything was good and I felt like being back home. We ended up ordering the mini boudin balls and a bowl of Nanny's seafood Gumbo togo for my little brother. So 2 happy hour drinks, 2 apps and 3 entrees plus a 22% tip came up to $135.00. I've worked on Broadway for years and I know it's more pricer than the local spots outside of downtown. But I was happy and satisfied with this place. We will definitely be returning again. Thank yall. The only downside for me was there is no Cajun pasta meals on the menu. Po boys, fried shrimp, catfish, crawfish, gator and Gumbo is definitely our style but a Cajun shrimp or sausage pasta option would be nice. I give this place 2...
