It’s so refreshing to see a restaurant open until 1:30am especially in the Downtown New Haven area. My friends and I got the chance to stop by on November 10th, 2024 around 12:00am. We were certainly hungry and ordered the Loaded General Tso’s Fries, Scallion Pancakes, Steamed Pork Dumplings, as well as their Cantonese Pineapple Chicken with white rice.
Loaded General Tso’s
Wow! I don’t know where to start, the chicken was so crispy despite it being covered in the sweet and garlicky sauce. The Mayo and Scallion complimented the flavor so well and I loved dipping my fries in it. 9/10 and the presentation was beautiful.
Scallion Pancakes
These were fantastic, they were so flaky and fresh with some crispier parts from the pan. I would recommend these be served with fresh butter. Definitely an amazing appetizer. 8/10
Steamed Pork Dumplings
BEST BEST BEST! Feeling so enthusiastic while writing about them. They were not hard or dry like how you may get them at other restaurants (No Shade). Flavor was phenomenal and the house made dumpling sauce and chili oil was Chef’s Kiss! 10/10
Cantonese Pineapple Chicken
My friends were definitely a fan of this meal, It reminding me of sweet and sour chicken because of the sauce but it was indeed very crispy. I enjoyed the tartness of the pineapples as well. The star of the show for this meal though? The rice, it was on the softer side but I loved it. As an Asian American, I ate rice nearly every day growing up but this rice was amazing. It’s made in a rice cooker I assume but it had the perfect texture and was super fluffy. 8/10
For late night food at a cheap price, Nice Day New Haven was incredible.
The lights were dim and they have a disco ball in the middle so I could definitely see this as a hangout spot with friends or the go to after...
Read moreAmazing. So so good. Excited to have great Chinese takeout. Again- so happy.
Was excited to try when I read Junzi founder took it over after Ivy Noodle owners retired. Did not disappoint.
After some confusion between DoorDash only referring to the west haven site and the broadway (elm) location only having their own site, we ordered delivery directly from the broadway place.
Every dish was plate lick worthy. Nuance and flavor. The garlic eggplant pork had huge pieces of yummy garlic and such a good mouth feel of chewy and slip, spicy and sweet. The beef wok had depth and simplicity I can’t explain. The Singapore noodles had perfectly cooked chicken and shrimp. Pulling that off with takeout is not easy IMO. The dry seasoned green beans were delightful. I went back for seconds even though I was already full bc I hadn’t had takeout Chinese this good in awhile. It didn’t have the trappings of totally American and I’m sure it wasn’t Chinese - truly los dos.
Can’t wait to try more items. Want to go in person to try the soup dumplings - guessing they might not travel as well. With two kids and a commute it’s impossible to go out short notice but to get delivery that delivers: THANK YOU! Chinese diner...
Read moreOrdered eggplant which was listed under the greens and tofu tab and it came with pork pieces. Called the restaurant saying I have ordered it before and it didn’t came with pork, it was an add on, plus putting it under greens and tofu was misleading. I was told it now comes with pork and you have to request it without it and that they could do nothing, I would have to place an order again. I have been vegetarian my whole life and ended up eating pork because of this, luckily I noticed the meat soon. This is actually the second time it happens in this restaurant, first time they cooked my tofu with pork although I did not request it. At least at that time, the lady working there was very friendly and replaced my dish.
Other people already mentioned violations of dietary restrictions and getting meat on their vegetarian option, so this is not an...
