UPDATED — So grateful the owners invited us back under new staff/management. Our experience was exquisite. We’ll definitely be back, and I’ve highly recommended this venue to friends.
OVERALL — Menu details further down, but overall = delicious, obviously envisioned/ crafted with care for texture, fresh ingredients, & tantalizing combinations. Presentation was so artistic! The lovely colored water glasses, pretty little seashell gelato spoons, whimsical napkins, even the to-go cups had the coolest white/black bumpy checkered pattern texture/design! (Yep, I was raving to my date about a to-go cup, lol.) Plus green ivy-covered walls & colorful unique artwork. Interestingly for me, the background rap music worked for an exciting vibe & striking, cool experience, even though I don’t like rap much!
STAFF— ALL were A+, the servers, bartender, manager . Solicitous & accommodating to our seating preferences & dietary needs; checked on us frequently & unobtrusively; friendly, professional, & timely. During our intentionally-long leisurely visit, we were happy to notice how they treated the other customers in like fashion.
MENU— Espresso = As other reviewers noted, it is to die for! Even the decaf!! (ROCK ON that ALL the coffee/gelato-espressos could be decaf!! Enjoy dessert & sleep too!!) Tried a simple almond milk/mocha latte and wowwww - truly, best I ever had, as I told the manager!!
Pick 4 Gelato = generous, great to share! Coconut (Zulu) w/ choc. liquor = perfection, my favorite pairing of all!!! Chocolate (“Voodoo”) = to die for. Lemon (“franchise”) = soooo good & cookie too. Tiramisu = delicious, not overly sweet.
Spiked bourbon gelato = a yummy real-deal bourbon experience, & nice crispy pecan topping for balance.
Muddled basil mocktail = LOVED!! Small portion, but so relished! The kombucha one = also very good!
Coconut cake = delicious to the last crumb! So moist, not overly sweet, great icing , lovely with a hot drink.
Charcuterie = we didn’t eat dinner prior, so this was our starter. The ideal hearty balance to the sweets! Nice unique crackers, pepper jelly/ mustard & cheeses. Meats = happily not overly fatty likely other places!
(TIP - if you go on weekends you might get to sample the yummy-sounding limited-availability quiche! We hope to soon!)
———- (Original Review, 3 Months Prior)
Editing my review, as the business owners treat customer service very seriously and responded most excellently and courteously! My boyfriend and I unfortunately had a terrible experience with a very rude server here, such that we actually left and didn’t even get to try the food or drinks, and we were quite upset. However, management responded immediately and with great care, and they even soon informed us the server is no longer employed with them. Apart from our service experience, the vibe of the place was so very special and fun, and it features such exciting menu offerings. So we are looking forward to coming back to try again. We immensely respect that the owners take pride in their establishment and are committed to highest standards for the...
Read moreI recently visited Dripp & it was nothing short of perfect. The staff was very attentive, and I didn't have to wait long for orders, even when they were busy. The atmosphere is interesting, upbeat, and chill. And the food & drinks were ALL great! These guys really know what they're doing with their gelato creations! (The gelato is made in-house!) I really enjoyed my visit and I can't wait to go back! Here are a few of the things I've tried:
Drinks NOLA PTSD: An Old Fashioned, but really smooth. The spicy cinnamon and sweet syrup make a really nice pairing. DRIZZY: Irish whiskey, espresso, cinnamon and cream. I had mine served hot along with a dessert cake and it was absolutely delicious!
Mocktails ( I'm not usually a mocktail person but these are delicious! Some of the best mocktails I've ever had.) CARONDELET CARSTOP: The basil, berries, & lavender honey combo is SO tasty. It's very similar to a mule, and it was so good I ordered a second one! POYDRAS PUNCH: This one is unique and harder to describe. The blood orange and ginger give it such a nice flavor!
Latte - they make a really great latte, and it can't be beat for $6! I had lavender added to mine and it was SO delicious! I work in the area and this is going to be my new evening go to for coffee.
Food CHARCUTERIE BOARD: Pretty straight forward. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful & the jams were very good. COCONUT CAKE: OMG, this cake was to die for & the presentation was absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to go back and get another one. I definitely recommend pairing it with some sort of coffee or espresso cocktail. I was in heaven.
Gelato: SPIKED PECAN PRALINE Gelato SCOOP: This one was another excellent dessert. The pecans were candied and delicious. And it was just boozy enough without being too much. THE VOODO YOU DO: The chocolate Gelato was rich and smooth. It paired extremely well with the espresso pour over. Very very good. 84 WORLD'S FAIR: The tiramisu gelato paired really well with the amaretto. Again, I got the espresso pour over. This one was also really good. FRANCHISE: Lemon pie gelato with lavender drizzle and I added the Indigo gin boozy pour over. Holy smokes was this good! ZULU: Coconut gelato with dark chocolate and black cherry. I got the chocolate liqueur boozy pour over and it paired really well. It wasn't too overpowering.
Even with everything I ordered I can honestly say that nothing at all was short of delicious! This place deserves more than five stars. It's not often that I find a dining experience that I have absolutely no complaints or even suggestions of improvement. This is definitely going on my short list of places that I...
Read moreIt took them a couple tries to get out order right, but the food and concept here were really fabulous.
It went downhill when the bill came. Simply put, the bill did not match the prices on the menu. The manager even agreed and gave us a 15% discount (which was still higher than what the bill should have been) , but said he could do nothing more and had to go by what was in the computer not the menu. That brought us to the next issue.
The menu said said it was cashless, but the computer gave us the option to pay cash or use a card with a 3% credit card fee added to the total. When we pointed this out, he said cash wasn't an option. He kept blaming it on the owner.
Extremely predatory practices that added about 20-25% to our bill that they tried to pass off without any explanation until we asked. Frankly, it was money we would gladly spend had the charges listed on the menu. Or, at the very least, would have adjusted our ordering.
Seems like they are banking on tourists not paying attention or perhaps people not wanting to look cheap on a not date.
Too bad it ended that way.
Edit - In response to see owner's comment: The issue might be one of training and clarity of the menu. The menu says 4% proccessing fee applies to all checks (which is a cashless form of payment). Perhaps saying all all tabs or on all transactions would be more appropriate. Regardless of that, the handheld device (which your staff said they had to follow) had a cash price - which we paid. Don't flaunt a cheaper price in front customers, then make them pay the higher price. Just simply build an additional 5% into the menu prices, and you would avoid issues like this.
Also, your staff was not trained properly to answer regarding the cost for additional pour over. I asked the waitress for clarity when ordering, and she responded "that sounds right, but I'm not good at math". The manager also said he didn't know what State and city tax totaled, which should be basic information to share with patrons. For his benefit tax totals 9.45%. It all seemed very predatory in the end.
If that is not the intention, do some training so these issues can be clarified. Fix your menu, and ensure your payment devices do not offer a cash payment option. If anyone cried, that's on you for not preparing your...
