This was my family's first time visiting NOLA, a second time for me. We had our two boys in tow, a 9 yo and a 6 yo. They were immediately in awe of the hotel. Service, from the start, was great. We arrived on a Thursday, so not typically very busy. We noticed it became busier Friday and through the weekend (also bc White Linen Night and other events were occurring that weekend). Valet guys were kind. The hotel is transparent with you that the valet can take 30+ min to retrieve your car. These guys work hard and run a few blocks to get your car. We texted ahead and never felt like we ever waited that long. Valet is $52/night. Worth it in my opinion. Mary (I apologize if I spelled your name incorrectly) and the hotel Manager really helped us out when we felt that our A/C and hot water did not function optimally in our Room 354. This was the Two Queen Bed with a sleeper sofa Editor's Suite. I loved this suite because of the gorgeous bathroom with the soaking tub. My kids loved it as well! So it was sad when we decided to move to another Two Queen Bed suite with a sleeper but without the gorgeous bathroom. This was room 505. Room 505 was a suite, but much more narrow. It looked like a Publisher's Suite, but without the larger wash room. Room 354, the room we were originally in, had a smell like someone had smoked in the room prior or somewhere on the 3rd floor, as if when cigarette smokes clings onto carpet and furniture. It is very difficult to remove. There is a fine of $250 for smoking in the rooms as the rooms are Smoke-free, but what does the hotel staff really do if visitors decide to smoke in the rooms to remove the smell? It could have come from the windows outside as there was construction across the street and the warmth of the room could have added to this as well. The hot water worked well when we moved to Room 505 on the same night. The engineer who came to help us was very kind and informative. The hotel was basically sold out, so the high volume of guests, they said, affected the hot water return. Eventually, changing the room helped our situation. The next day, I checked with the front desk to see if the manager was able to issue us a refund as we decided to move down from the Editor’s Suite. She informed me that she had a Publishers Suite available but it had One King Bed and a sleeper (710 sqft) and I would get the gorgeous bathroom with the soaker tub. I was all for this. It was room 355. The smoke smell was present again, but not as strong as it was in Room 354. The AC definitely worked better in this room, even though it was right next door to Room 354 that we were originally in. Maybe the filters or vents need to be cleaned and dusted in Room 354. I have no idea, but I appreciate the Manager and staff for accommodating us. The cleanliness overall was superb in the lobby. I felt that the carpet in the actual rooms and that the bathrooms in the rooms could have used a bit more care. The area under the vanity in Room 354 was dusty, as if the cleaner forgot to sweep underneath it. I have two boys, so they rolled their toy underneath and we retrieved it with dust. Room 355 was cleaner (the larger room). Not dusty under the bathroom vanity, but the stopper from the soaking tub was missing. Room 354 (Editors 2 Queen Bed) did not have a full length mirror, which I found odd for such a nice suite. Room 505 (Publishers 2 Queen Bed) and Room 355 (Publishers One King Bed) both had full length mirrors. I loved the robes that the rooms came with. I loved the layout of the Editors Suite and the Publishers Suite with the King Bed. The sleepers in both were great for extra room to sleep. Location of the hotel is perfect. Easy walk to Canal Street and the Streetcars. Magazine Street has a lot to offer as the hotel in on Magazine Street. We walked around a lot with our boys, but we drove to the Garden District to City Park and JAMNOLA. Overall, we loved the vibe and decor of the Eliza Jane, but underwhelmed by the overall cleanliness and care. For its price point, we...

Ah, New Orleans. You either love it or you don’t. And, let’s face it, there is no shortage of places to stay while in the Crescent City. There are huge towers with all the rooms you could ever want (Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Sheraton, etc.) as well as quaint little cottages that might have a room for rent. And everything in between. It’s centrally located, has an amazing interior and hit all the right notes.
The Location/Layout Given where we’ve stayed in the past, The Eliza Jane might be one of the best-located hotels in town. Granted, depending on your schedule and/or what you want to do, your itinerary might vary. It’s lodged on Magazine Street, just a few blocks from Canal, a few minutes shy of Jackson Square/French Quarter and close to the business district. There’s a theme here as well and if you know anything about the hotel’s namesake (say it with me…Eliza Jane) then you’ll “get” the theme. The foyer is amazing with exposed beams, a very nice, quaint view all around and has no shortage of space. You’d think a place as old as New Orleans that everything would look like that. You’d be mistaken. Our room was flat out amazing. We did spring for the Editor’s Suite, but that price was concurrent with a “normal” room would be at any big-name hotel. Long story short, if you can afford it – go for the suite. We had two rooms, each with a large TV, a view of Magazine Street and a sprawling shower complete with a claw foot tub (which went unused). There was a door that separates the two rooms (one is the bedroom, the other has a couch with TV) which I liked. My wife goes to bed early, and it allowed me to watch TV or play on my iPad without disturbing her. There was no shortage of space.
There's also a nice courtyard with a fountain which we sat and sipped drinks in. It's literally an oasis in the middle of New Orleans!
The Staff We didn’t have a lot of interaction with the staff, but those that we did talk to (mainly the bartenders) were nice and helpful. Our room was cleaned by 11 AM every day. I’m not sure if they do this for the suites or not, but it was nice to come back around mid-day and have a clean room.
I’m scratching my head trying to think of a reason I’d not recommend this place to anyone going to New Orleans. And I’m drawing a blank. About the only thing that rubbed us the wrong way was the noise/traffic on Magazine Street. They’re doing construction on a nearby street and, evidently, things “get moving” around 7 AM in the morning. We were on the second floor, so perhaps if you were on a higher floor, it’d not be an issue. However, I can’t fault a hotel for its location and proximity to noise. Let’s face it: New Orleans isn’t exactly the place you go to get some “peace and quiet.”

The Cons Noise from Magazine Street
ETA: Oct. 2025 We once again visited the Crescent City and once again stayed here. To our surprise, we were upgraded from the Editor's Suite to their "top of the line" Publisher's Suite! How nice! The only real difference is that the Publisher's Suite has an inlet with a table and more of a "prep area" for food/drink. If you feel you need that and are able/willing to pay a bit more - you'll be happy.
The same charm is there. The noise from Magazine St. is as well, evidently the building across the street is undergoing perpetual construction, so there's that. Bring your white noise machines, folks (or stay on a higher floor)!
We were also verbally accosted by a man just across the street which, of course, is no fault of the hotel but there are some in the city that aren't "right in the head." Keep your bearings about you and always be aware.
I've added a few new photos as well....
Read moreLocation – 5/5 -The hotel is in a great location, close to the French Quarter, Central Business District (CBD), and Riverside. It is about 25 minutes from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and situated in a safe area, making it convenient for both tourists and business travelers.
Price & Value – 4.5/5 -During my stay between Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the rate was $275 to $300 per night, which was on the more affordable side compared to other hotels in the area at that time. There were no hidden fees during my stay.
Cleanliness – 5/5 -The room, lobby, gym, and bar were all very clean and well-maintained.
Room & Comfort – 3.5/5 -The King Bedroom Suite was exactly as described on the website. However, it lacked a window, which some guests might find unappealing. Personally, I found it dark and quiet, allowing for a great night’s sleep until 10 AM. -Air conditioning worked well, maintaining a comfortable temperature. -Wi-Fi was adequate, though not exceptional. -TV included Live TV, on-demand content, and Google Chromecast. -The bedroom wall was plain concrete with minimal decor, giving it a somewhat unfinished or industrial look.
Amenities – 3/5 -The hotel provided all listed room amenities. However, there is no business center despite the website stating otherwise. Instead, there is simply a desk in the lobby where guests can work. -No complimentary breakfast, but they do offer a complimentary fruit punch (though realistically, this cost is factored into the room price). -Nearby: There are great restaurants within walking distance, and a convenience store is just a minute away.
Bathroom & Water Pressure – 2.5/5 -Water pressure was very weak, and hot water took a while to heat up. -The bathtub knob was broken, so I was unable to take a bath. This was a disappointment.
Service & Staff – 4/5 -Check-in and check-out were smooth. -Concierge service was helpful and assisted with my luggage. -They attempted to call me a taxi, but after waiting over 20 minutes, I opted for a Lyft instead (which arrived in 7–10 minutes).
Atmosphere & Experience – 4.5/5 -The ambiance was cozy, modern, yet luxurious, with a distinct French-style influence. -Live jazz music is occasionally played in the lobby, enhancing the experience. -Be aware that conference after-parties sometimes take place near the bar, which could affect the noise level on certain nights. -Great for couples and business travelers attending conferences.
Security – 5/5 -The hotel has good security, adding to the sense of safety.
Overall – 4/5 -The Eliza Jane Hotel offers a great location, clean facilities, and a charming atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for couples and conference attendees. If they improve the water pressure and fix maintenance issues like the broken bathtub knob, I would definitely...
