I was at the Accra Resturant with my colleages from African Community Together celebrating the African Immigrants Heritage Month which was organized in collaboration with the office of the NYC Controller Tom M. Stringer in partnership with Islamic Relief.
The organization present includes the African Services Together alone with the NYC Census 2020!
Africans and Black Americans were educated and mobilized to registered for Census 2020 and also other benefit among others. Information about COVID-19 prevention was past while referrals were made to the community on where to access Free COVID-19 Testing with or without insurance and irrespective of anyone social or immigrant status.
Food were distributed through Accra restaurant and the Islamic relief supported everyone with kids with school supplies and family supplies that can help the kids stayed healthly.
African Communities Together and African Services Committee distributed facemasks to all the community members who attended the program from the neighborhood in Harlem.
It was a lovely event.

Read moreListen. First off. I'm African and I have to say my experience with this restaurant has not been pleasant. 1st time I went there with coworkers. We asked for plantain, they said we have it but it's not fried, it's around 12pm on a weekday how is plantain not ready at an African restaurant? Ok so can you make some while we wait since we are eating here? Response No because it will take too long. For the record. Plantain takes less than 10 minutes to make. And that is a stretch, we ended up having to eat without it. Day 2 they tried to charge us more for the same meals. Day 3. Uber eats. Worst idea ever. We ordered paid for extra plantain, even made a phone call to confirm and ask for extra sauce. Food gets delivered. No plantain. No sauce. And another item was missing. We called, they responded " we are not obligated to tell you when we run out of things" and they said we have to order something else and then they will give additional food. I was already skeptical about ordering from Accra the 3rd time but after today. I am never eating here again! As far as the food taste. Waakye is average, it does not come with shitto nor was it available. Jollof rice is below average .I like consistency and I'm sure we all do and all 3 times has been a let down....
Read moreMy husband and I had just flown into NYC and decided to eat dinner here before heading to our destination. We were looking for restaurants near the Metro station, and this one was one block from the Metro. What a delightful little gem! It’s a small place with only 4-5 small tables; their business seems to be primarily takeout.
The owner was wonderful. She asked if we’d ever been there before, and since we hadn’t, she gave us samples of everything to help us decide what to order. All of the customers who came in and out while we were there seemed like regulars, and they were all very friendly and made recommendations.
We ended up ordering jollof rice with fish (they are famous for their jollof) and okra soup with fufu. The owner was so kind to explain how to eat it and that you eat with only your right hand, not your left.
Each table had a bottle of liquid soap and a bottle of hand sanitizer, and they brought a small bucket of warm water to the table for you to wash your hands.
We had such a wonderful experience here and appreciated the warm family atmosphere. We highly recommend Accra Express for both the food and the...
