Don't get to dine in the city too often lately but we were looking forward to this pre-concert meal. We arrived at 6 and had reserved a table. It wasn't too crowded. We were less than warmly greeted by a hostess who seemed put off that she had to walk us to our seats. The place is really nice and we looked past the frigid reception as we sat down. A friendly waitress was prompt to check on us and take our drink order. Cold tap beer is always worth a star on its own in my review and it was delicious. Some things were missing from the menu, but no worries we all realize supply chain issues are affecting everyone and we can just pick something else. I went for the smoked wings for an appetizer and steak frites for main course. Very shortly after we placed the order the food came out. All of it. At once. The wings, my entree and my wife's and sisters entrees. The person who brought the food was not the waitress and had no reaction to my comment about the appetizer arriving with the mains at an alarming speed. Eventually the waitress came back and I mentioned the issue to which she replied "that's how I put it in". No appetizers plates were brought and no offer of another drink was asked.
The wings were luke warm in temperature and somewhat dry. The sauce was ok but nothing special. The blue cheese was there with no celery accompaniment.
The steak frites was a downright disappointment. Some chewy pieces of (Flank?) steak and cold waffle fries. Had the they've been hot I'm sure tasty.
By that point we didn't want to stick around for another drink and I didn't see a dessert menu offered. We left and gave a standard 20% tip because everyone needs to eat. But the next time I will...
Read moreMy wife and I visited American Whiskey based on a referral from a NY native we met on the way to a Yankees game. Upon hearing that the bar has a UGA and SEC connection we knew we had to visit while in the city. What a great experience we had. We sat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the bartender Kirsten and a couple of other patrons who were locals and very knowledgeable of the bar, menu and owners. Soon we were introduced to Casey Pratt a Managing Partner of American Whiskey who went out his way to make us feel at home, he even provided us with a couple of UGA t-shirts - Go DAWGS!! The drinks were fantastic; craft whiskey cocktails that were truly crafted by the bartenders, we tried the Lavender Julep and the Whiskey Sour. The Frozé was delicious and the beer selection included a mixture of craft and domestic beers. At the recommendation of our bartender and other patrons we decided to split an order of Smoked Wings with point reyes blu cheese and the Braised Short Rib Sandwhich with salsa verde and preserved jalapeno both were outstanding! In the end our quick bite to eat ended up being a really enjoyable afternoon. We highly recommend...
Read moreSO crowded. Which, like, I expected, but the staff apparently did not and everything was fairly chaotic. Not enough bartenders for the crowd and maybe half of them knew what they were doing.
Ex. My date and I ordered the same classic drink but his was minus one ingredient. The whiskey equivalent of 'two martinis but one without olives.' We had to explain this to the bartender at least three times and she still didn't get it.
They also messed up our tabs and charged my date for half my drinks, and when I asked to close out, they gave me the receipt but not my card back. Fortunately I was sober enough to remember eventually before I left but still, that's not cool.
It's just woefully understaffed during busy tones. The girl next to me was WASTED and broke a glass all over the bar and I tried to flag someone down but since I had a full drink, no one acknowledged me. I ended up just getting a bunch of napkins and cleaning up the broken glass myself before somebody got hurt.
The drinks were really good, the bartenders who are talented are VERY talented, everyone is polite, and the vibe is nice. I'll probably be back but hopefully during a less...
