I will start with the PROS A good option for dine-in, if you have a pet. We were seated right away, and the staff was very welcoming to our dog.
After being seated, we were presented with the different menu options, one of them being the holiday special.
Now the CONS I ordered the calamari from the main menu, only to realize that the holiday menu had a special price for the calamari and an entrée that I was going to order .
We asked if maybe she could switch that particular order to the holiday special and she said she couldn’t do it because the manager wasn’t around. I’m not sure what the big deal is. You could technically just erase it all and start over as a new order but I figured I’d wait to speak to the manager.
The food was just some dishes were slightly better than the other . The turkey burger was very dry. The steak skirt I ordered well done was definitely not well done and still very red.
When it came time to pay the check, I asked the waitress to go talk to her manager or let me talk to her and she came back after a few minutes, saying that they cannot make the change and all they could do is offer me two free, desserts. I appreciate the sentiment. I didn’t quite want the dessert and was forced with two because they didn’t want to accommodate my request.
Needless to say, we won’t be going back there again . And the place is not cheap by any means. We were two adults and three kids and only ordered four entrées and our tab was $250 .
And the manager did come to speak to me if he or she was even around which and itself is an issue .
They also seem shortstaffed because it took like a good 20 minutes to get water after we got seated but I’m starting to see that to be a trend so it looks like something I have...
Read moreMy BFF and I were visiting NYC and decided to grab a bite to eat before our show. We were told about this place and I am so glad we decided to try it out. Walking up to this cute bistro style restaurant you are met with the all different types of dog pictures on the walls…. I LOVE dogs, so I was even more excited! The entire staff are super friendly, and we were greeted and seated immediately. We told them we were in a time crunch but they accommodated us and got our meal and drinks out to us very fast! The drinks are very good, and the restaurant continues the dog theme in naming their drinks… I ordered the G dog and my friend ordered dog bubbles… both are drinks were delicious! Next came the food…. WOW! They had just added a seasonal special, pumpkin soup, to the specials, my friend ordered it and she loved it. I tried it and the flavor was surprisingly savory. I expected it to be sweet but it was creamy and the pumpkin flavor was delicious. I ordered the blackened salmon sandwich and it was very good! The salmon was light and flakey and met with a chimmichuri sauce that the restaurant makes in house, and also delicious!!!! Lastly, I want to give a shout out to Esteban our waiter and Lucy the General manager, thank you for the amazing service and your for being so friendly! We would definitely dine at either of their 2 locations again!!!! Also, if you have a dog in the city take them to this restaurant it is INCREDIBLY dog friendly and even has a dog menu!!!!! A+...
Read moreI recently had the chance to visit Barking Dog in Hell's Kitchen, a place known for its dog-friendly atmosphere. The establishment maintains a charming ambience, where both humans and canines are treated as valued guests. The wait staff were notably friendly and considerate, ensuring that our needs were met with smiles and a welcoming demeanor.
However, despite the warm atmosphere, the food and service failed to meet expectations. The dishes we ordered were, in a word, ordinary, lacking the culinary flair one might hope for in a restaurant of this nature. Our food took a significant amount of time to arrive — a full 30 minutes. Moreover, an unfortunate discovery marred the dining experience - a rather large piece of avocado skin found in our omelette. A minor oversight, perhaps, but one that speaks volumes about attention to detail.
Furthermore, I felt a discordance between Barking Dog's policies and their enforcement. The restaurant has specific rules for its four-legged patrons - "no dogs on laps, begging or barking." However, these rules were not strictly followed. Dogs were seen resting on laps, which wasn't particularly bothersome, but the constant barking of one dog was indeed disruptive. The issue isn't with the dogs themselves, but rather with the inconsistency of the establishment’s policy enforcement.
In conclusion, while Barking Dog promises a unique dining experience, they need to work on the finer details - from food quality to policy...
