Next up was Black Star Bakery & CafĂ©, a bright and effortlessly charming spot I visited on a mild Saturday in Brooklyn. Tucked along Driggs Avenue, the cafĂ© opens into a space that feels both open and groundedâbathed in natural light that pours through wide windows and dances across its clean white interior. Thereâs an airiness to it, a kind of unspoken calm that makes even a simple coffee feel a touch more intentional.
We ordered iced lattes, a cheese danish, and an almond croissant. The danish, in particular, stood outâflaky, golden, and filled with a beautifully balanced cream that melted softly into each layer. The croissant carried that same sense of care, delicate in texture yet full in flavor. The iced latte tied it all togetherâcool, smooth, and gently bold, the kind of drink that complements conversation rather than overtakes it.
Kris, who served us, was warm and attentive in that quiet, genuine way that makes a place linger in memory. His easy demeanor and thoughtful service added to what was already a serene afternoon.
Black Star Bakery & CafĂ© captures the kind of Brooklyn ease thatâs hard to replicateâsunlit, sincere, and just refined enough to feel curated without losing its charm. Itâs the kind of cafĂ© that invites you to stay a little longer than you planned, simply because everythingâlight, coffee, and...
Read moreBeen coming here for sometime as itâs the closest place my work - but would never go out of my way to go here. The coffee is fine the pastries are about on par with grocery store baked goods. Heard others mentioning the bureka, do yourself a favor and go to lions milk down the street! The real negative of this place is if you unknowingly open a laptop not in a designated âlaptop areaâ here youâll get scolded by the owners immediately. My wife witnessed the owners berating a worker into tears as well the other day. Horrible owners horrible pastries, take your business to one of the many other amazing coffee shops in Williamsburg, lions milk, swallow, partners, the options...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite cafe. Iâm not sure if ownership changed when they opened the new location on Driggs, but the woman that works here (I assume sheâs a manager of sorts) mainly making coffee, is aggressive, rude, horrible to her staff and very clearly doesnât handle high stress or pressure well. Iâm sitting here now and sheâs yelling at the poor girls serving to take peoples names and getting all flustered. Just not necessary, makes for a bad experience when your customers can hear you screaming out the names of orders angrily. Ew.
This isnât the first time Iâve noticed this behavior, just the worst so I felt inclined to leave...
