I never leave poor reviews of establishments as I understand everyone has an off day or a different preference. However after years of being a patron here, today we noticed a derogatory statement printed and taped on their wall. We were disturbed and asked an employee about it. He said it was the belief of the manager, who then came out a few minutes later and confirmed that he stood behind it.
We also started to track on differences from when we’ve been there throughout the pandemic. A sign says they require distancing, yet instead of just 6-8 patrons inside while a queue formed outside per usual, it was packed today. Despite a poster requesting masks on the wall right behind them, none of the 7 employees/manager were wearing them. We asked the manager about this as well and he verbally confirmed he and his employees are anti-vaccine and anti-mask. I can respect private personal opinions, but we have a clear city-wide policy that in public places of business this is unsafe.
Our best guess is this is a new manager (we don’t recall seeing him before) who sadly is not aligned with the heart of the neighborhood (we haven’t found one other establishment in these 18 months who hasn’t been very conscientious) and doesn’t care about the safety of our neighbors here in Williamsburg, nor respect the diversity of our neighborhood.
Knowing we’re in contact with our neighbors who are over 65, we left. And with diverse friends their statements are offensive to, will not in good conscience return. With so many small businesses heartbreakingly lost in the neighborhood this year, we hope those that remain are kind so we can all support them more throughout...
Read moreWish I could give a better review. Ordered a dozen bagels with cream cheese and butter (enough for who wanted whatever on the side) as a thank you to the guys for the hospitality while we worked at a condo building in Brooklyn. I told the guy who took the order what it was for but no plastic utensils, napkins or plates. I Al's mentioned jobsite. I ordered myself a dark toasted everything bagel with tuna, thin tomato and black pepper. Well, not toasted at all. No pepper. I guess this fits the vein of the folks who cannot appreciate texture in bread. Then, only the cop out tuna salad one style I can give a 7 out of 10 for a bit of lemon (or I hope it is lemon) zing. Not zest, but zing. The stuff came, good looking bagels with a tight hole but not cooked enough, a common issue with those not brought up eating bagels or any good bread for that matter (thinking everything should look like a hot dog bun) I'm sure it is not the owner but surely the workers who are there solely for the money. But I asked for dark toasted and yes, it does matter. My life must be pretty easy if I can complain about the degree of toasti-ness. I should be happy I even have food. Chaulk it up to the new wave of migrant workers that has undermined the staples of NYC fast food: bagels, pizza and deli. Besides, when I was a kid the owner and his/her family worked the floor. Yeah yeah, so you recon I am thanks...
Read moreFeb. 26th 11:30am. Walked in and ordered a tuna salad on a bagel. Paid and left. Went to work and found out it was bad tuna. It was straight up mush. It was a blob of something that was slightly sour and really salty. Called the store. Spoke to a guy and explained the bagel I order had bad tuna. Asked me to bring the sandwich back for a replacement. Had to take time and leave work to drive over there and waste gas and time. Got there, told a Spanish speaking lady the situation. Thought she understood. I told her to compare the consistency of the tuna from the bad sandwich to the new one they prepared for me. She looks at it and tells me it’s not tuna. She looks at the written order on the post-it and I said well the post-it said tuna. She said OK. Then she tried to charge me for the new sandwich. I asked her what is she doing? She said I had to pay for the new sandwich. I again explained that I came all this way is for me to get a replacement sandwich for the bad tuna. She looks at me confused and then said OK again. No communication within the staff. Non English speaking staff just makes situations worse. No apologies. All I got was inconvenience and “OK”. This is not the only time I had an issue with this specific bagel shop on Bedford and yet I keep going back. Not anymore. They’re way past 3 strikes. Go to the one on Lorimer, they’re...
