Read moreWe were a party of 6 on Sat. July 20th at 7:30pm. We made ressies through Open Table. We arrived to find there was NO air conditioning in the restaurant during the heatwave in NYC.Ignoring ALL of our contact info at their fingertips, Bobby Van's neglected to call and notify us there was no a/c nor did they try to accommodate our ressie in one of their many other locations. They had portable a/c's used at the bar but neglected to move them into the dining room.
Upon being seated, I gulped down my iced water and after the fact noticed there was a huge, unidentifiable bug in my iced water - I suggested to the waiter that he provide me with an alcoholic beverage to kill whatever germs/bacteria I just ingested. We got past that and sat through the rest of our meal with sweat literally pouring down our bodies. My husband had to leave the table to go into the bathroom, take off his shirt and DRY IT under the hand dryer!!! Our waiter was pleasant and kept telling us that the a/c would be fixed any moment which is why we stayed however, I sat through the meal with sweat literally dripping off my forehead, down my chest and left the restaurant completely soaked from head to toe. No, we did NOT stay for dessert!!!
I've been to all the best steakhouses in NY, Brooklyn and Long Island. Most restaurants on LI are my clients. I know the executive chefs and restauranteurs and have NEVER experienced anything like this. While I'm reading this I can't believe we just didn't leave the restaurant but these plans were with old friends from NY, LI and NJ, 6 weeks in the making and it was a Saturday night in NYC - where could we possible get a last minute ressie?!
My biggest complaint is that the manager did absolutely NOTHING to acknowledge our discomfort or our displeasure. He avoided us like the plague - never came to the table, never acknowledged the situation, never apologized - simply put, he was just happy to have the business! And with a table of 6, drinking, ordering apps and $50 steaks, he did us and Bobby Van's a huge DISservice!...
Read moreFantastic Steakhouse in Midtown East. A colleague of mine visited me and he took me out to lunch. I suggested this place, since I have not been to a Steakhouse in awhile. Called ahead and put in a reservation for lunch (just in case) and walked over.
The interior is very nice. There's a bar upon entering the establishment on the left and the main dining room next to it in the back. We were sat down and nicely accommodated. While we chatted, we waited on someone to come and take our order. After about 8 minutes, our drinks order was taken and bread options were placed on the table along with a spread for them. They were awesome. Either I was very hungry or they know how to pick out the best breat and breadsticks to nibble on before your meal.
I saw a special on the wall and asked about it. It's called the Tomahawk Ribeye. It's about 2.5 pounds of ribeye steak with a side. Great for sharing with someone else. But I was greedy and ordered it for myself. I chose mashed potatoes as the side and added broccoli to compliment the meal.
After about 15 minutes, the meal came out. I was shocked. The steak is HUGE. But I was hungry and started on it. The steak was so soft and moist and worth every bite. The mashed potatoes they offer were delicious ,as well as the gravy that came with it. The broccoli was steamed and a nice add-on as well.
After about 30 minutes, I gave in. I took the rest of my steak and broccoli to take home. At home it was also great and enjoyed the taste even more.
The place lost 1 star only based that it was lunchtime and it took awhile to get our orders in and have the meal served as well, but in the end I would understand considering I ordered a huge steak and wanted it cooked medium well.
The food is top notch. If you are in Midtown East, just stop here and enjoy a...
