Came here on a Friday night to, well, obviously have a drink!
Upon arriving at the place, the bouncer goes through the usual procedure and checked our IDs. Once we walked in, we went straight to the outdoor seating where I was half surprised to see how packed the area was! There must have been at least 200 people in there but we were still able to find a seat without much trouble. Many rows of picnic tables lined up with what looked like happy patrons.
The beer selection is great - I highly recommend the Grapefruit beer. It doesn't have a strong alcohol taste to it and tastes just like fruit juice. Although the bartender normally hands out plastic cups, you can request for glass mugs. Just make sure to tip the guy :) Although I did not try anything on the food menu, it looks like there's a selection of Czech/Slovak food - none of which were overpriced. From looking at the adjacent party's food, it looks delectable and definitely smelled amazing. Something I will be trying next time.
Crowd is definitely native to QUEENS. Nobody seemed stuck up and everyone's mad chill. Contrary to Studio Sq, I didn't get the vibe that half their patrons were too high maintenance too be courteous to other patrons. (I.e say excuse me and apologize if they bump into you).
If you're into the World Cup series, this is THE spot to be. Huge TV screens are placed everywhere and you can drink/smoke while doing so with fellow...
Read moreA note, first: I've only ever been here for lunch. They serve lunch and dinner, and the lunch is much more reasonably priced and there's even a bit more variety.
This is a rare find--a brewpub that's also an exquisite restaurant. Most brewpubs have good food but it's very basic, wholesome fare. Trap Rock aspires a little more, and it works.
Lunches are a variety of sandwiches, pizzas, entrees, and pastas. The burgers are very good here--one of the few times I'll get off the meatless wagon is to enjoy one. And the fresh made potato chips or french fries that are served with the sandwiches are excellent.
So you can go there just for the top quality food, but this is a brewpub. The beers are also of a similar high quality to the food, clearly crafted to complement the adventurous menu. The variety changes with seasons but I haven't had a bad beer here by a longshot.
It's a nice restaurant for occasions with a comfortable but upscale mountain lodge decor. They can handle large groups for lunch and I assume for dinner in their upstairs room.
Overall, it's a tasty restaurant, and a nice place to go when you want a notch above casual, and a bonus if you...
Read moreThe most uninviting security turned us away because they said no dogs allowed. In the biggest outdoor beer garden in NYC? Seriously? It would've been nice if they responded to my question on Instagram or had this posted somewhere on their website. I've heard all the excuses of how it violates the New York health code, but only if the dog is in the vicinity of a kitchen. Their kitchen is inside, so I'm not really sure what their reason is. They claim to be the most family friendly bar because of their outdoor area, but if you ask me, kids are equally if not more of a mess lol.
We were meeting with friends for a birthday so after walking over, and getting turned away, I wanted to say hi to my friend with the birthday and buy him a drink. The security guard said he needed to check my bag. ??? I've never once had my bag checked at any bar, brewery, beer garden, etc. Want to know what I had in my bag? A mat for my dog to lay on, a water bowl, a portable fan and a dog bone....
