ย ย ย Read moreFull disclosure: I traveled to Brooklyn Music Kitchen to see my friend Hannah Ray Teal and her great band play another local gig. I enjoy all the local small live music venues around New York and hoped for the best with BMK.
It is a nice space that seats about 50 people or so max. Bar runs almost entirely one side of the space. The vibe here is similar to the other venues (Bitter End, Berlin, Alphaville, etc) that Hannah has played; and that is a very positive comment. Brooklyn, off the G train, instead of the Village in Manhattan, which is also welcome to this Brooklyn kinda guy....:)
The sound system was fine. I was able to hear my friends (and other performers) without any issues.
There is mostly tables and bar seating with a couch in the back. It's a good spot to go with a group.
As others have noted, the food and drinks probably could use some more attention to detail. However, I was there for the music, the drinks were fine, bartender was very cool and friendly and friends that had some food didn't have any complaints.
All in all a great experience, go and enjoy your visit & keep this venue chugging along supporting the local live music scene in Brooklyn.
Visit: Monday...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is not an artist friendly venue. Essentially a big money making scheme for this restaurant when you play here. They book multiple bands and require that each of them bring in 15 people at $10 a head or else the band pays the difference. For this place to require that musicians bring customers in to this lifeless place and then pay the difference is insane. The capacity of the place is probably only 50 people anyway. Sound system not too good. They say online they are open until 2am but they closed up as soon as our friends band finished around 11:30 pm on a Friday. We went outside with the intention of coming back in to drink more, but all the chairs were up despite not having closed out of my tab and only being outside for 5 mins. When I asked to close out they said โah we almost got oneโ. Does that mean you were going to charge me huge fee if I didnโt? Scammy vibes. As I left the bathroom on my way out I heard the staff talking bad about the last song the band played. You are already making money on the people the band brings from the drinks and...
